    This is the reason why we love Android. Also the fact that this video is 10 years old and still amazing to see.

  • @jacksonsam81

    Isn't it easier and faster to do it by yourself? Im just so greatful that when I grew up in 90's, there were no cell phones, no internet, life was so easy and simple.

    • @johnc.9133
      @johnc.9133 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was thinking the same thing. For the amount of delay in the commands, I could have already done it myself.

    Just showed this to my wife and she walked away saying great! Now the lights and the kettle are going to talk back to me! I LOVE THIS

    Brilliant! Whilst the voice recognition makes for a cool vid, the real beauty of Android Tasker is doing this stuff without even touching the phone! Like automatically switching on lights if I get home after sunset, or switching on the underfloor heating 30mins before whatever my alarm is set to, but only if it's cold enough to need it. Beat that, Apple.

  • @TheMoneyfarmer
    @TheMoneyfarmer 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Man, you are brilliant! I have found my focus and knowledge to be a bit lacking when trying to set up commands on tasker in the past, but you have re-inspired me. This is so amazingly cool! Thanks for sharing. Peace :-)

    Is there some sort of way that you could hook up external microphones all around the house so that way you could just speak to your system from anywhere in the house, hands-free, by a simple "ok google"? i.e. (walks toward bedroom)...."ok google, goodnight"..... and everything thing shuts off in the house. ...??? Is this possible?

    • @onusai
      @onusai 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this comment is really old, but I think it is possible. If you set up a main system, say an old computer running linux or raspberry pi, write some app to that can access all of the items you wish, like the tv, lights, ect. (not sure if anything like that already exists and can be downloaded) and combine with some speech to text program. then somehow setup the microphones around the house. Im not sure how the actual listening part would work though, would it be always listening for your commands? that would require it to always be running the speech to text program constantly analyzing all sounds, or maybe make it to constantly analyze only when you want it to, for example when you home.. activate it by telling your phone "im home" and deactivating it when you say "im out". Im sure it is possible, I dont know how exactly, but this is just my idea on how it would work

  • @RobertForslund

    To you thinking this is fake, I can reassure you this is NOT fake! I have my Xperia Z setup with AutoVoice and Tasker and it is KING! Every time I hit the voice button and say my phones name "she" responds and I can give her a command! One thing to note though is that it will only respond to the commands you set up, it doesn't automate everything from scratch! Tasker is THE best app you can have on your phone, its worth it's weight in gold! =D

    He is using a plugin called Secure Settings. The paid version allow us to use the Google Now swiping for Tasker's task etc.
    Notice the icon when he swipes. It is the logo of Secure Settings.

    It' s not about Android. It' s about electronics. I believe that creating the App was the easy part of all this stuf. I think that the difficult part is how to connect all these power enabled devices in one receiver and how this works. The android app just sends the commands to this receiver. This is the trivial. I would like to see an article on how this can be done. Good job and good luck with you career Doug Gregory!

  • @Drogonnis
    @Drogonnis 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Makes sense...While automation is possible using Android, this does not exactly conform to the definition of automation. Glad you ended the debate though, that went on far too long lol. I still enjoyed the video. Can't wait to implement this. =)

    One can do this with an Apple device. All you need is the right set up. As for Android, you are only limited to what you can do with Android. The possibilities are endless. All it takes is the right imagination with such an open OS.

    Quite simple really.

    This is a demonstration of a Tasker plugin, not a demonstration of "automation". The demo relies on a Home Automation gateway, the MiCasaVerde Vera.

    I am just a little put aside by you saying this isn't home automation...I understand speaking and making something turn on is an exchange for a switch, but playing a movie, syncing lights with pausing, etc., is automating many processes. Also, which would be more misleading? Categorizing this as automation or remote management? The guy was in his own home making stuff happen in his own home. Do you go to "remote management" to buy a TV remote? :P

    Doug, I really appreciate your stuff. Is there a video on tutorial instead of a demo. Keep up the work, You have opened a can of worms and I'm looking to overhaul my home now making it more techkie after seeing some of your videos. I went out and purchased a Vera Lite and a bunch of outlets, dimmers, etc... I'm a hybrid between Droid and IOs. Is there another resource you know that works with IOs devices?
    Again, I really appreciate your stuff...

    @whatevyouknow 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Anyway, this is kind of a semantic debate now, I feel "automation" is the subject of the title and you want it to be about the apps/hw.
    There are videos claiming to be about automation but they have someone talking to their phone or tapping an NFC pad and a door unlocks or a light goes on. There's an explicit action to invoke a single action which to me is not automation. Automation is pulling into the driveway and the front door unlocks. PS I run a MCV and Tasker myself. Cool video

    Hello,
    I'm just wondering how do you chain commands in Tasker? Like "Command1 AND command 2"
    Thanks :)

  • @JeremyPhan
    @JeremyPhan 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    +1. Since you don't mention the use of an IR blaster, are you using a Z-Wave wall outlet? Most TVs don't turn on when the power's supplied (only going to standby) so I'm interested in knowing how you integrated this part.

  •  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can you explain with more details? what are you using to automate the lights and turn on TV, what modules, not only software.

  • @ejkeebler
    @ejkeebler 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    What would be even better is integration of NFC, so instead of having to tell the device your home, you just swipe your nfc tag, which is a simple enhancement IMO...

    Honestly It seemed cool at first and thought it was cute the addition of Portal Bot Voice. Maybe cause he is doing it all in succession or something but it just rubbed me the wrong way... I don't honestly find ANY use for it except if you are entertaining someone romantically... "Dim lights and put on the Barry White."
