Martin you did great in this interview but you’re not actually hydrating anybody. You’re just say different waters taste different.
I'm actually more amazed that there's people who think there's no different tastes of water. Sure, not as different as with other beverages but I thought everyone would notice that water from different sources or water producers taste slightly different, I mean it seems obvious.

I just saw this guy on Down To Earth! Seems like a great dude, especially since it sounds like he's been putting up with the "What?? Are you crazy? Water is water!" jokes his whole life and yet he still remains patient and even laughs along with them despite probably hearing them a million times and still tries to educate. And of course Conan is great as always. Would love to visit his water restaurant some day!

I was super confused because too I watched H3 Podcast for a long time but fell off sometime at the start of the pandemic. I ended up coming back a few months ago and was shocked to see Martin. I was like “Isn’t that the water sommelier that was on Conan with Andy and Simon Pegg way back when I was in high school?”
Somewhere Jordan Schlansky is fuming at the fact that Conan is getting his greasy dirty fingerprints all over the glass

It's always in good fun with Conan. Way too many comedians try to derive comedy from hurting other people. Conan is the complete opposite as he always wants people to have a good time.
I totally get that water tastes different. The best water I've ever tasted actually comes out of a spigot outside a small shop in the mountains in Inyo county, CA because that water comes from a natural spring I think. Every time we go up there we take a bunch of 5 gallon containers with us and the shop lets us fill up as much as we want for free but of course we buy stuff from inside to support them. It's absolutely the cleanest, freshest water I've tasted. I think the last time we went up, I loaded up 20 gallons and I had an unopened container of Evian and poured that water our just to fill it up.

This is different. I always knew different areas produced different tasting water. I didn't know one could make a career out of it. Well done, Martin!
HAHAHAHA I can totally tell the difference in water flavors. I can taste the chlorine in Dasani and Aquafina and the minerals in Arrowhead. If my comedy career dies.... I will become a water Sommelier haha

Arrowhead tastes like rancid dirt. Its the worst of all bottled waters. I cant even believe its sold in stores! For real money. The second worst water is Stater Bros bottled water that has added baking soda "for freshness". Digusting, and its *water*, why would baking soda be needed to keep bottled water fresh?

Some waters are very similar, but others are starkly different. A good example as sparkling waters go is Perrier vs. San Pellegrino. Both are sparkling mineral waters, but there's an obvious difference. Try the unflavored varieties side-by-side, and see what you think.

Anyone who has ever lived in New York City should be able to be able to affirm that it has amazing tap water since it comes straight from the aquifer (also why NYC bagels are so good). Also if you're into sparkling water, San Pellegrino (Italian) is saltier than Perrier (French).
At the original air date I think most people thought this was a joke, but many wineries, breweries, and distilleries swear by their water source. I travel a few times and yeah, water does taste different.

Legit doesn’t mean anything when most people won’t tell the difference or care, while they can add their own hint of lemon into their water. He’s basically unnecessary.

I like the passion for water. I can drink pretty much whatever safe water is available but the taste varies massively. I drink much more water at work because I much prefer the taste to the tap water at home.
I think it might depend on your palette aka how wide of a spectrum your taste buds can sense, this may mean that some people have a broader sense of taste and can taste the difference between water, which honestly would be really cool cuz that would just apply to food as well and make it more flavorful. I think the best way to tell the difference between water is to drink one brand of water like deer park or volovic for two weeks or a month and then start drinking a different brand. Some brands are ever so slightly sweeter than others, hence the hype with Fiji water and artisanal waters.

Try spring watter from odd european sources. The metallic and mineral tastes are really strong. E.g. Borjomi.
We had a really weird tasting "Siguldas" water and I liked it as a kid. It tasted odd, but i think my body wanted those minerals

To be honest, I think water does taste differently and the way he elaborated that made sense and showed genuine expertise. It's rather interesting
I actually can taste the difference if drinking bottled or restaurant waters, only because I own the world's best home water purification eSpring system. If you don't use the best quality water purification filter, then you ARE the water filter...

Everyone should be familiar with soft water, hard water, tap water and well water in regards to their taste and mouth-feel. Some water will be more salty, others sweet, some bitter; some have traces of iron, sulfur and calcium.

Strange how nobody seems to notice that water actually tastes quite different dependoing on where it from.. You notice it a lot when you travel to other countries.. I actually hate the water in most places that are not my country.. Iam from Portugal and if i drink water from someplace like UK i can immediatly tell it's not Portuguese water.. The worst part is when waters not only taste different but they also seem to not quench your thirst quite well.. It's really frustrating 😂

I think that since we are made of mostly water, people find it difficult to *tap* into the difference of taste. You've gotta use all your senses. It's very, very unlike comparing the taste of sugary or salty beverages.

I'm not sure I'd pay for expensive water... but water definitely tastes different. Case in point... same exact coffee made in the country I work at vs back in the states tastes completely different. Only thing that changed is the water.

If you don’t believe there’s a difference in water taste try arrowhead and then try fiji. They’re both natural spring water but the taste and texture is incredible different.

I tried a blind test with three brands of bottled water - Fiji, Evian & Vittel v London domestic mains water. I didn't like Fiji, & i couldn't tell the difference between the rest. I am prepared to believe that my taste buds are not sophisticated enough to discern, but if that really is the case, I might as well save some cash & the enviroment by drinking out of the tap (faucet).
