I got to meet him in an informal setting for a few hours. Nicest guy you could imagine. Funny, engaged, charming...it was a real gut-punch when he passed. Can you imagine, he was worried he couldn't live up to his audiences expectations. If he only had known...

My hero...RIP Keith. The greatest keyboardist and a terrific human. Looking at his right hand saddens me, it looks so painful. He really gave his all for his music and his fans.

Wonderful musician, performer, composer and innovator. His name will be mentioned in the same breath as Miles, Hendrix, McLaughlin and Zappa.

One of the greatest keyboard/piano players who ever lived. An outstanding showman of a one of a kind talent. I can't believe that he is gone/;-((
If there is an afterlife, maybe he's hangin' with
Cozy Powell jamming on Holst's "Mars the Bringer of Wars."

Great interview, Mary, what a honor for you to meet such an adorable, lovable man and amazing, unique, aboslutely extrordinary musician, to me the greatest keyboard player the universe has ever seen. So sad he departed so soon and so young. At least I was able to see him live with ELP. I miss you, my dear Keith, but you live in our 💙💙 through your music. Thank you from Argentina, Mary!!

Keith Emerson, born Nov. 2, 1944, died on Mar. 10, 2016 at age 71. He was the co-founding keyboardist of progressive rock band Emerson, Lake and Palmer.

Thank you Mary. You were so lucky to have met him.

I'm just seeing this in March of 2024. So nice that you got to talk with him after that performance! I know Jefrey Biegel too... such a great guy! Jeffrey told Keith about Rachel Flowers after I mentioned her to him. I can sense Keith's internal struggle here with being accepted by his fans. I really with he had let the love in more fully instead of worrying about disappointing people. But where you are a hugely talented person, I guess you can struggle with an inner critical voice. Rest In Peace, Keith. Thanks for all you gave us for so many years!

So sad he's gone. He seemed to be a very friendly, likeable person. I guess you don't know until you walk a mile in someone else's shoes. Much love Keith. So glad to have seen ELP live & your music will live on.

the ultimate keyboardist! when i think about the many great players out there, keith always takes no 1 spot! he was a genius, especialy the left hand technique he used to great effect on "tarkus" and "karn". forever missed! R.I.P

It's a sad thing we don't have instructional videos from guys like Keith on how to play the keyboards because he is pretty much the greatest thing to happen to rock keyboard playing.

Well we do have instructional videos from people like Jordan Rudess, though. I mean, Rudess is a great keyboardist and all but Emerson was why Rudess started playing the synths.

True. Also I didn't say that Rudess was the innovator or anything like that. I said that Keith Emerson was the reason why Rudess started playing the synthesizers.

Always the humble, humorous, and immensely talented innovator. I loved this man as a teenager and moreso as i got older. And thanks to his family , Mari K, and others who selflessly shared the personal side of Keith, which is wonderful.

He was killed by his own Talent.
I can't still believe that this Legend isn't anymore here on this earth and, most dramatically, ended his life the way He did.
I grew up with E.L.P. and they turned me at a very young age, into my future professional career as a musician. If I became a pro-muso is just for these guys.
May He Rest in Peace.....probably now He is much more at peace, than when He was here.
    Love Him.

Darn shame that Keith is gone. Such a great guy and a superb musician. I saw him in the lobby of the Treasure Island hotel in Las Vegas back in 1992. I was too shy to walk up to him and say hello though. Wish I had. I did work up the nerve to speak to Rick Wakeman the following year during his acoustic tour. I also spoke to his long time friend and author of his first biography, Dan Wooding.

I love the way Keith plays Bach. I hope his hands are feeling better these days. I wish him the best of luck and I'm still trying to find out what instrument he's playing with the Nice on the inside cover of Keith Emerson with the Nice Double album. It looks like some kind of Moog ribbon controller but I don't even think it was invented yet. Anyone know?

The best, most impactful keyboard player. Guitar driven band? Fuck no! Emerson's hammond organ ripped through the stereotype of the guitarist recieving all the attention, as he leaped over the L-100, stabbing knives into the keyboard for sustain. A huge inspiration to everything musical to me. RIP

When I was in college studying music, everyone that I knew was listening to Keith Jarrett! I was listening to Keith Emerson, and over time, I think Keith Emerson made a bigger mark on music than has Keith Jarrett! They're both monster players, but KE had a fire inside his playing that I really enjoyed listening to!

    • @rman52

@@worldline7147 Maybe those two are. But if that's true, Keith is another level of musical genius. His contrapuntal skills, harmonic vocabulary mastery. As well as his playing abilities are way beyond Macca and Brian. Those two however. Especially Brian could write melodies that God Only knows were amazing.
And Macca when he focused on it like Penny Lane or Elanor Rigby was a phenomenal lyricist. Neither of which were a Forte of Keith. Glad at least those two are still with us. Macca still performing. Love keeping the BB music alive.

Very sad. A big bottle of booze and a loaded gun make it far too easy for a clinically depressed person to make a terrible snap decision - one that they cannot live through to regret later. He could have just retired from performing and gone into producing or other avenues of the music biz. RIP Keith Emerson.
