    The triplets live outside of Austin now. They are still super sweet, strong, and continue to learn. It just takes time and it’s extremely difficult to manage all of their care. They continue to be my inspiration.

      Elizabeth Norris How are Emma and Zoe specifically? Have they learned spoken English? Are they at a school for the deaf or blind? They’re all 18 now, and I hope they continued to have interveners, at least in their younger years. I know it was very difficult to get interveners a decade ago.
      Do you think the family will ever participate in a docuspecial again?

    I just saw a recent documentary made on them, in 2008 I believe, and was amazed by the progress they had made. One of them was even attending regular classes, although a few grade levels behind.
    I give so much credit to their mother and step father. So many others could not have handled this.

    One of my students is deafblind. She loves Michael Jackson, arts and crafts, swimming, chatting, cooking, and Facebook. She hates chores, having to eat vegetables, and waiting. I don't really think of it as sad- she's a perfectly normal teenager in almost every regard. She sees beauty and experiences joy more often than sadness. If she weren't born deafblind, she wouldn't be the person she is today. I wouldn't change her a bit.

    Wow, and I though just being Blind is hard. I struggle enough as it is, and yet hearing stories like this make me realize how good I have it. I couldn't imagine not being able to hear as well. It would be so lonely. I know that they can still live normal lives. I am learning too. With lots of help, they can do anything they wish.

    Did he say they arrived "24 weeks too soon" at 0:36? There's no way triplets survived having been born at 16 weeks gestation...

    • @mandyj2787
      @mandyj2787 8 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      +bsacagawea i think he meant they were born at 24 weeks, and it was too soon, maybe?

    • @katvtay
      @katvtay 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      bsacagawea Yeah, he goofed. "24 weeks too soon" most definitely sounds like they should have had 24 more weeks gestation. As you said, 16 weeks gestation… *impossible.*
      I remember a local commercial, advertising a large hospital once described twins as "24 weeks premature." That was awkward to me; sounded like "born 24 weeks too early." However, I think that is an acceptable way to describe that prematurity happened and "here's the gestational age." However, what happened here at 0:36 sounds like a total flub to me.

    Everybody has to thank to God for what he /she has. I saw many people who were so angry and sad because of being flu. And they tell it as if it is disaster. My triplets were born 3 months earlier and one of them was just operated for Cochlear Implant and certainly they have some difficulties , but we struggle with all and we have always great hopes for the future.

    I saw a video about these girl just before I saw this one. They had already lost their hearing before they turned one. The girls came hinge one by one at 4, 5, and 6 months. A few Weeks after that two was pronounced completely blind. Shortly after that she discovered they were all deaf. So this was all very early in life before their first birthday. Hope that helps anyone who had questions. God bless

    Poor triplets, I can't imagine being deaf and blind at the same time :(

  • @Deafdoggy
    @Deafdoggy 17 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree - bad enough to have one child that is deafblind but all three! But with parents like these, they will be an inspiration to all of us who take sight and hearing for granted. I'm profoundly deaf and having problems now with one of my eyes - have had 2 major operations and that eye is for all purposes blind, but at least my good eye is enough, with spectacles, to drive. These three won't have that.

  • @silvaaa70
    @silvaaa70 15 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Being deaf doesn't mean that you hear nothing. Being blind doesn't mean that you see nothing. Many deaf people can hear. Many blind people can see. They just can't see or hear as well as people with "normal" ranges of hearing and eyesight. It is possible for a deaf blind person to see and hear.

    They will always have stronger other senses. They can enjoy a rain by the fresh smell. Food probably tastes extra yummy to them. They can feel and enjoy life other ways.

    Hopefully advances in science will someday make it possible for people like these kids to see and hear after all. Who knows, with the rate at which technological advances are being made, maybe a solution is closer than we think.

    What happened to introducing or teaching tactile sign language, were there no schools for them , or services provided from the government?

    • @katvtay
      @katvtay 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jasmine Coreathers Yeah, services for the deaf-blind can be hard to find and hard to fund in the U.S. One girl had enough vision, and thus, the cochlear implants worked fast. She went to regular elementary school. The other two finally were able to get individual intervenors to teach them.
      There has been no update since age 9 though, and they're almost 17.

    How can some of you even suggest that they're not people and shouldn't live like that? You're basically saying Helen Keller shouldn't have existed. If you read her journal and her other writings, don't stand there and say she wasn't a person. How shallow and narrow-minded.
    As a blind person with a hearing loss, I take deep offense to such comments.

    There are many, many ways to perceive the world, not just through sight and sound. We have five senses, and they will learn, with much time and care, how to live in a world without two of them.
    Many, many things are possible with technology today, and the human heart has no end to its capacity to love.
    It's one thing to ask educated questions, another to presume falsely that we have the authority to determine who lives and who doesn't. They're not braindead, just deaf blind.

    So they lost their hearing/sight by their 2nd birthday. That's still too young to have substantial memories of having normal vision and hearing for it to feel like a huge "loss". Do you think most people remember the details of their second birthday?

  • @unpredictableAB-

    They are still this woman's children no matter how they are born. There are women who hate their normal children, so handicap doesn't affect love. When it comes to people everybody won't be perfect physically nor mentally. By the way most aborted babies are normal. Look at how God blessed this woman with a good husband who loves her & loves these girls as if they were his own. Maybe other people will look at this situation & not throw their kids away. God will make a way when you do what's right

    @siaic well , all of us are here to have a home for our real life ; a home from heaven, full of goodness, love or a home from hell, full of evil, sadness. some of us are being examinated with bad conditions like illness , poverty and some others with good conditions like reachness , popularity , health. It is just like, a teachers exams his class ; Some students have difficult questions to answer but with high points and Some students have simple questions to answer but with low points.

    I didn't say partially paralyzed I said from the neck down, & there are thousands upon thousands of people in that condition. These kids can't live normal lives & it's tragic, but when it comes to human beings it's very dangerous (for your own sake) to choose who lives or dies.On the other hand my opinion about an animal who is born blind & deaf or becomes blind & deaf (which is worse) should be put down. "The shedding of blood brings a curse." "e.Lets just agree to disagree, but do no harm
