You did actually consider Zag in (9 C) but not in (D 10), the (D 10) play probably was optimal as it turned over an extra tile as well as scoring with the Z, the rack leave was terrible with the (9 C) play. but the extra points and turning over that extra tile for a better chance of drawing a vowel with the (D 10) play does make a big difference.
