- Just a Gigolo is the third music video by the Village People featuring original lead singer Victor Willis. Filmed in early 1978, Willis is seen wearing his producer, Jacques Morali's fur coat. Victor borrowed the coat from Morali specifically for this video shoot.
If Mr. Victor Willis is reading these messages, I just want to say that, you are the king! A real entertainer and great talent. Yes, I am an original fan. Thank you, and all the People, for years and years, and years to come, of joy, pleasure, and great times!
Marla Reves I CONCUR!!!!!!!!!
I came on here to say the exact same thing. Victor Willis is amazing. Huge talent. Thank you Mr Willis for amazing people all these years
What an incredible voice! So rich and warm and instantly recognizable, like the voices of Teddy Pendergrass and James Ingram. Iconic.
a very under-rated band i wish they did many more albums!
If only victor had never left in 1979, can't help thinking (what if)
I mean, the Village people are icons of the 70s. Not sure they are underrated. Lol
How the hell are they underrated?
I mean Van Halen covered this.
Plus macho man etc.
@@xlerosxDLR covered this
@@ericrainey8224 David Lee Roth covered Louis Prima. Though I do like the Village People's version best.
He really sells the song, great vocals!
Typical of the superior disco class, style, and sophistication, a veritable masterpiece of orchestration, arrangement, production, and engineering! As with ALL disco remakes of old songs, this one puts all others of this title to absolute shame! Note the 100-piece New York Philharmonic Orchestra with Jacques Morali and Henri Belolo, producers, Horace Ott, arranger and orchestra conductor, and the great Gene Orloff, concertmaster.
I'm so glad I just discovered this video! How did I not know that the Village People had covered this Louis Prima classic? And they got to it several years before David Lee Roth, too! As a New Yorker, it did make me a little sad to see the original World Trade Center Twin Towers in the video. But then, it WAS 1978. This video and song are so awesome!
Me,too..just a while ago!🎤🎶Mali B. 9. 28. 2017
i wondered if that was the WTC in the background at 1:34.
We need more radio stations to take a break from new music. The Village People did a lot when it came to real music. Glad I was born in 1985. We need to give other generations credit when it comes to entertainment. Thanks for posting for this video. :)
Village People rockz!I luv NYC in snow!
Well performed Louis Prima song! Some years ago, I was a gigolo to a rather lonely, confused lady with a few bucks. I gave her what she wanted and she got what she wanted from me.
actually "Just A Gigolo" was originally a 1928 Austrian song, but Louis Prima was the first to pair it with the 1915 song " I Ain't Got Nobody."
What a truly great voice. Could've been a Motown artist. Or, Broadway star. But, he did fine.
This is what I am noticing today. 44 years later. I took it for granted back then...now all of a sudden, I wake up and hear the nuances, tone, and soul. Fantastic. I've listened to 5 VP songs today here..and counting.
A great group great sound in the lead singer and three backup vocals ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love me SOME construction worker AKA as DAVID HODO..good dancer too ..bob in CINCINNATI OHIO
Welcome to my new TH-cam music video channel.
VictorWillisMusicChannel hey,brotha Victor.
Great stuff. Who's the girl in the video...?
🤘🏻😎

Tremendous talented guys.Energy wonderful New York City was so beautiful in their videos. Thanks gentlemen.
I noticed the WTC in the background around, 1:34.
A fan from day one! You shaped dance music and bent stereotypes to fit the new era. I’m forever grateful for your contributions!
VICTOR WILLIS THE ORIGINAL AND BEST!
Thoroughly enjoyed this video by THE VILLAGE PEOPLE. Love it!
That was awesome! Holy shit. I miss the 70s.
I am sorry if upset anyone but Victor Willis will always be the voice associated with the Village People. At least for me as that is what I will remember from the first time I heard them.
Totally agree, they were history when he left, and I'd love to know why, they were right at the peak and Ray Simpson took credit and he was nothing to do with those songs
@Truckergunners Renaissance wasn't that bad of an album. Heck, even Sex Over the Phone had a few gems on it. But pretty much the VP were toast after Victor Willis left.
This song absolutely slaps hard!
Congratulations to Victor Willis for winning his lawsuit to regain copyright control percentages on the songs he wrote.
Michael Paul YEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!
i love that song!
I don't think it was right he sued his band mates, he should of just sued his business partner, his business partner was in charge of everything, not his fellow band mates.
@@debkerr2393 sometimes that's just the way the lawsuit has to be worded in order to make things happen. It could've been a quite cordial arrangement with his actual bandmates, but due to the way businesses were set up, etc, etc, etc.
Deb Kerr, Felipe new what was going on.
So cute . I love their exit .
I love these guys so much.
This song is just legendary
AMAZINNNNG!!!!
Dear Victor,
thx for "In the navy"!
The first two verses of the video was choreographed very well, then they just freestyled the rest.
It just goes deeper and deeper
Brilliant!!! 👍
I love that they're wearing jackets because (obviously) it snowed outside and they must have been freezing. Nowadays the director would be all, "Eh, shut up and dance!"
Nothing better than a group of 1970 studs singing their rendition of a c. 1956 Louis Prima cover of a 1928 and 1915 songs (if I remember years correctly!!!). How time is tied!🤩fantastic disco rendition!
Beautiful arrangement and willlis so cute and photogenic in the seventys
Top!!! Great- Song...
THE real Village People. Only with Victor.
The Victor People : l
They were history when he left
Was a junior in HS when this song came out. I had the cassette of the album...LOL
Willis is the only original member that is still part of the group.
Glenn Hughs (Leatherman) passed away in 2001 of lung cancer.
Randy Jones (Cowboy) is doing his own thing in FL
Felipe Rose (Indian) is doing his own thing
David Hodo (Construction worker) retired in 2013
Alexander Briley (G.I.) retired in 2017
1978.....Good old times.....!!!
Love the Fur
The girl is an absolute dime!
who is it
Who is that very pretty blonde?
I love the village people ! They are a fun band.
My two favorite things about this video: 1. There is no choreography. It's as if the director said "start dancing," and the guys just danced as if they were in a disco. 2. Glenn (Leatherman) looked really cold, like he just wanted to go home.
Great song I love it
It looks so composed at the beginning and at the end its freestyle? But what can you say that mustache is something.
Its like they stood outside and said ok dance. And they just did whatever.
Thanks for the video
Wow! I didn’t know they did it first! I was only familiar with the DLR version! I’m glad I found this. 😊
The song was written in 1929 and covered by dozens of artists.
This is about a straight gigolo and the Village People killed it! David Lee who? That's so ironic. That's what makes life great. U just don't know. Louie Prima would be proud.
This is *so* much better than the David Lee Roth version. Congratulations, Village People, you performed very well.
Different, but not better.
Love it
This is what should be out in orbit for the first aliens to see of our world for real.
Que bien bailan 😊
Actually pretty good
First I'm hearing this song snd I love it
Beautiful trumpets
This song is used in the David Bowie movie Just A Giglio 1978. Not critically acclaimed but nevertheless a very entertaining piece of film history. I recommend everybody watch it the music is excellent.
My fav cover
I love 70s woman fashion
Now you have a TH-cam channel too! Great!
Actually 2 songs. The first was released in Austria around 1930. It was paired with I Ain't got Nobody in a Las Vegas act around 1950 and recorded in 1956. David Lee Roth re-recorded this version in 1985, but you knew that.
Andre Oliver is a Victoria's Secret now, lol. Van Cleef & Arpel is still there though. You can't see that writing on the wall off to the left now.
Does anyone else think that John Legend looks like a young version of Victor Willis? They even have similar singing voices!
Golden Era
Now i know were David Lee Roth got his tempo...Well done Village People..Legends
Absolutely Crazy how the line "I'm so sad and lonely" is right at the point 1:25 when the camera reveals the World Trade Center Towers in the background.
Johnny Favorite And alex Briley.... The navy guy in the village people. his brother was the guy who fell from th3 building on 9/11
😢
@@mariahmmm1845 ...and how do you know this? !
@AlexKx the infamous photo of the man jumping headfirst from the trade center is his brother
Ghoulish discussion.
TREVOR RUPEE WHO DIED IN 2011 AGED APPROX 80'S LIVED THIS THIS STREET'S WAY SINCE 15 YRS OLD. WHAT A WAIST OF LIFE ALBEIT A GOOD SONG FROM THE DISCO ERA
It was lucky for Trevor to be born in New Zealand as it was men only.
I like the later version but I love this old version much better.
I tease my husband with this song the few times I use a gift card to pay for our meal!!😍👴👵ha ha Mali B. 💙💗🎤🎶🎤🎶9 28. 2017
I'm just a GIGOLO 😎💪
This is river’s favorite song
Wow I remember Van Halen doing this never knew it was a Village People song
The song was written in 1929.
Damn, I miss the seventies. When music was GREAT and even the gays were cool. By the way, the blonde girl in this video is one hell of a gorgeous babe. Anyone know who she was?
I love me sum Victor Willis!
what's her name?
wish it was that easy.......
I wonder if Louis Prima got to see this before he passed.
Notice Victor is not in a costume here? He's such an enormous talent. Always had a Temptations vibe. So much more talented than the rest of that novelty act
Does anyone know who the beautiful woman in the video is? Thanks LOVE VP...
I had no idea till recently that Diamond Dave did a remake of this I thought his version was original.
I always thought it was a medley of two different songs ("Gigolo" & "Ain't Got Nobody") and wondered why DLR copied their version so precisely!
I think Louis Prima's version was original.
@@bobdavis4848 Thanks. I might have to look that one up..
What's he saying in his scat moment? It sounds like "I'm an....." 2:52
+feastoffun Hamanama Nimanama, Hamanama Nimanama, Hamanama Nimanama, Basa Alabot.....(there ya go!)
I wonder if any of the others ever sang lead.
On the albums with Victor I don't think so, but at a show I saw about ten years ago or so at BB King's in Manhattan, Alex Briley (soldier) sang lead on "Don't Leave Me This Way" by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes (also by Thelma Houston of course). Very glad to see Victor is rebooting the Village People.
David Hodo was lead on "Sleazy".
This is the BEST Shit ever!!!!❤❤❤😂🎉
HOMALOMANINGANOMA HOMALOMANINGANOMA.
I tunes doesn’t have full version of the song
You have to get just a gigolo and I ain’t got nobody and play them in queue
Pure disco at its cheesiest.
You are pure filth at its lowest.
"It's" should be "its." Proof that those with this "opinion" are pure retarded at its most retarded. (Notice later correction.)
+YouFonia Those lower life-forms with their 2 functional brain-cells make it TOO easy :-D
Wow! This is one of the worst videos that I have ever seen.
Just lazy, lazy film making.
Victor Willis and the rest should be ashamed of themselves for creating such a steaming pile of excrement.
When I die, I want to have this music piped down into my casket on an eternal loop so that I rot faster.
Zeph Yrus
The unkindest cut.
I cannot find a live version about this cover
Great song! Can the budget for a video be a negative number?
Should have known david lee roth didn't write this
Talented italian-american mister louis prima wrote it
who's the chick?
Lots better than Louis Prima's version from years ago.
That's for danged sure!
I discovered this from "I am Divine" documentary.
I prefer this over David Lee Roth
this was a great ep. anoher song "sodom and gomorrah" great
What is the structure at 0:15?
Grand army plaza right outside the plaza hotel in Nyc.

It’s so cold the guy in leather pants can’t move because his family jewels are frozen to his pants

Snow is only bad thing about this clip
2019?
That's when I discovered this cover
@@davincent98 My like, please
I’m not sure how to feel about this version of this song it doesn’t meld well with the songs history the only way I can justify it is that the tone is meant to be a facade and that he really is happy and is simply putting on a face to get what he wants
They went down hill after he was kicked out
40 years later, people still walk around New York City in these weird fucking outfits.
Excessive US$47,80 budget for filming this video.
Cryaotic brought me here
And the Sociologists who studied social stratification discovered a few things about the ying/yang of Black Males and White Women.
It was discovered or hypothesized that Black males and White women found themselves on a similar socio-economic level ascribed to both by White males. Not sure if this hypothesis or idea was tested scientifically although it still makes for some on-going study.
The Village People song 'Just a Gigalo' kind of represents what the writer of that song was saying. Kind of a life in desperation of sorts? Just my thoughts.
