Heeseung's backing vocals this album are INSANE. They really just let him run with the vibes and he DELIVERED. (Especially in Still Monster, where PDogg literally just, on the spot, asked him if he wanted to record some backing vocals and he was like sure, and PDogg just let him do whatever he wanted and let him choose which pieces went into the final song.)
I disagree that SV and Orange Blood doesn’t feel like their identity. I agree Sweet Venom feels different from Bite Me, but I think it’s still fits well in their identity, I think the focus this album was on showcasing their vocals. Most of the songs: Sweet Venom, Blind, Still Monster, are very vocally driven songs IMO - and Sweet Venom fits in with their overarching lore very well.
They’ve always done different genres each comeback, what links their musical identity together for me despite the different genres is leaning into minor notes and transitions for a ‘darker’ sound. It’s what connects Pass the Mic to Bite Me to Sweet Venom. But yeah SV feels like the poppiest song they’ve done.
I agree alot with the statement of theirs music sometimes feeling like it lost the identity of what made it special in the first place given-taken was such a iconic debut because it was just so enhypen any group could do sweet venom but noone else could do given taken

also, because the song was so short and the chorus wasn’t really anything special or memorable while watching the MV it felt like Heeseung, Jay, or Sunoo were the only ones in the song to me. Heeseung’s vocals standout, however, I was super impressed by Jay, I love how they’re utilizing him.
i think in this comeback enhypen is going for something catchy and easily remembered by people for the title track. it's not usually the enhypen title track that we were used to. they're trying to penetrate a certain market and audience especially because this group is the most famous kpop group on tiktok
I always find it disappointing when K-pop acts go for that certain market cos it’s so generic and sounds like a billion mainstream songs out there but it’s fine cos the bsides are great,

i felt that lack of identity with this title track as well TT. this is actually the boy's first cb after becoming a 100% hybe group and the first project with the hybe in-house producers (so bts and txt's producers). as a result, A&R was more shifted towards a unified sound (see txt cb, jk's standing next to you, lsfm perfect night, and now enha's sweet venom). i hope they learn to just let wonderkid (enha;s main producer in their early career) to take charge of this group and allow them to have a solid musical identity finally
Argh HYBE wants to DILUTE and Americanise all their artists soo bad. They're stripping away the essence of what makes K-pop special it seems, all for American validation and a grammy? Ew
what i find hilarious about this is that bite me was actually more pop-friendly for what's currently trendy, and that's why it was the best performing bg title track this year. while sweet venom wasn't bad, it honestly seems like hybe is STILL stuck on trying to get their bts dynamite moment recreated @@Koko3op
This is a really dumb take cause hybe in house producers have been all over very single album of theirs
@@zeusgrim9081 there's a difference between arranging a keyboard synth here or there and being the head producer (which is usually bangpd or wonderkidd) and the difference is noticeable. the only other album that had this much in-house hybe producer influence was manifesto.......and that album also wasn't really enhypen's color either. the border series, dilemma series, and dark blood all sound like they belong to one artist despite the variety of soundscapes and vocal production. but manifesto:day 1 and orange blood don't seem to fit. maybe it's intentional though, considering both of those projects have the same color scheme lol.
but it's undeniable that A&R roped enha into the 'hybe soundscape of the year' trend they've been doing since the pandemic and it's fine if you disagree but my take is clearly informed and far from dumb.

Agree with you on everything you said about the title track… I like it and the boys worked hard as usual for it, but I know for a fact they deserve more and can do more! I’m just torn because they like it so much so I will support no matter what. Given-Taken is way superior though. That production is insane

I miss the days when choruses weren't so repetitive on one phrase or line and had actual lyrics. The sound of this song was super funky which I really like but I agree: too short and way too safe. It almost feels like a Paradoxx Invasion B-side vibe. The bridge and the pre-chorus were really nice.
One thing we have to know is that some kpop groups will change or try different styles to get into another market. I prefer when they try different sounds but without loosing their essence. The other day I saw on tw that Bang Si-hyuk said that Kpop singers should take K out of K-pop to succeed in western pop industry... i dont think i like what he said, I got into kpop cause its something different from other styles.

I disagree with the identity so much xd when they have tracks like flicker and blessed-cursed.
They have showcased their vocals clear and loud, IMO better than most Korean groups this year. I''l take SV over Bite me and fever any day hahaha
Kpop fans being so obsessed with identity has pushed most kpop groups to yield the same noise every time, damaging the quality and creativity of the kpop music badly.
Blessed-cursed though i loved a lot of engenes didn't like because it was a change in sound. There's no identity to sweet venom at all, it could've been TXT or Jungkooks singles lol that's the issue, not that their bad songs but they're interchangeable with a LOT of music on the Billboard charts. Bite me and Fever at least had some identity that wasn't generic.
Jungwon and Sunghoon doesn't have that much part but BOOM! SERVES... MOTHERED...

i also was super underwhelmed with this comeback. it's good, but didn't give me that heart-racing excitement i usually get when listening to their new albums. sweet venom is good and the b-sides are too, but like you said it just didn't scream enha for me.
Sweet Venom is cute as you said for a B-Side, but Given - Taken still being that one song , it is 100 times better
I would give this album an 7.5 give and take cause while this album are overall good but it definitely missing something. The vocal are insane tho. Maybe because Dark Blood is such a masterpiece (for me) that my expectations are kinda high so i'm a bit disappointed with how this album turn out to be😅.
Ps. Blind definitely my favorite song from this album

I really feel like Hybe has got TXT and Enhypen on the same crash course for making like Harry Styles B-sides tbh... if you watch TXT's Back for More, it's very clearly Hybe just trying to break into the western pop music scene, so they lose a lot of the sound that sounds unique to kpop; the choreo is even super similar to Sweet Venom

Enha’s last two albums haven’t been as exciting. They have some of my fave early discography in kpop, so it’s been disappointing. However, I think they have the ability to transform these more basic songs into something special through their performances, but when it comes to just listening value it’s just eh. Still Monster was my fav on this album.

But isnt sweet venom done by jay he's an American and maybe that was his taste of music and enhypen really liked it it was their favourite so its not that bad in my opinion that it's not like kpop

Why. Why. Hybe always gives enhypen songs that with a bit more effort could be so much more? Less than 3 minutes a title track CMON. It's catchy and addictive but add a bridge or something. Every time i hear their recent tts i feel like adding a few more sections the songs could improve a lot.
