You’re gonna take it back for a free replacement even after admitting that you ruined the tool by misusing it? 😆 I’d do that at Home Depot for sure , but I have respect for harbor freight.
I've argued with harbor freight that what I'm about to do to their tool the warranty won't cover. They said bring it back if it doesn't survive. If you fabricate it, take it back and they might be able to manufacture a new tool...while replacing the original.

Update, I took the set back to harbor freight and they switched the whole set out for a new one.
