    And that my friends is a sure way to go out of business. Other plumbers wanting to get rich quick make us all look bad. My dad taught me that if you treat a person with respect and honesty you'll have a customer for life.

      Then there are others who will reschedule everything they are doing and crawl under your house and replace everything over the course of two days ! For 1800 cash and a have a nice day ! Old man took care of it in two days and it was done and over !

      There are major plumbing businesses in my city that charge outrageous prices when your main drain is compromised. $4K for a few hours of work. That is If you’re foolish enough to pay it.

    Good on you for being so transparent with them, and yep that is one ludicrous quote.
    Almost as ludicrous as the badly inadequate drains in the first place. So easy just to do them properly when constructed, and so difficult to fix up later.

      Easier to build it cheap and more profitable if you have to build it twice since it's on someone else's dime (unless they don't pay of course)

    I just finished building a house in Canada and in total kicked six plumbers out of the house. The training in this country is pathetic. One of the plumbers had his ticket and a trainee under his guidance. How does one learn from an idiot.
    Glad you fixed the problem and saved the people at least $69,000

    Honest and fair. Bless you. You oughta see how it works in healthcare. I had a long career on both sides as doc and claims reviewer. Shocking how docs set up 10 times as many visits as I did to solve simple problems. You won't go broke in your biz but I retired poor. Still, no regrets, did what I thought was right. Karma has a way of catching up with everybody.

    Love the beard, love the quick work, and if I was the customer, I would have asked how much it would have been to connect that drain to the crushed one. If in my budget, do that to have something for the time being and do the concrete later

      Your point is right on! But here in the US and the northern freezing area that drain wouldn’t work but only a few months out of year! Also keep in mind water seeks it’s own level! And it’s apparent that the “old” drain has already been repaired (Note screen and zip ties) so why not dig under other-side of fence and find other end and re-hook it? In Michigan anything to stop freezing problems needs to be below minimum of 42” under the topsoil! However we can use French drain here but our main lines to drain most be below or at the minimum depth! So back to my point, you have crushed drain but that ok because water will still flow through a pipe no matter it shape! I’ll add a disclaimer though, unless it’s crushed completely flat and what that camera showed in this video it’s “Not” crushed flat! So with the camera insert(street side) in crush pipe side of drain you can calculate the distance from curb to where the pipe started to be crushed. Then start digging up old line at that distance from curb while cutting the sod into squares and putting them upside down on a tarp to be put back in place once repairs have been made Now with both ends of pipe being found it make the job of re-hooking simple! But at this point I must add whoever already made the repairs before did you wrong because that person could have fixed it right it that time for the price of an inexpensive plastic pipe and a few minutes at a hardware store
      So back to project! Now take the zip ties off old drain pipe then reattach to section of crushed pipe properly per your local codes! Then take screen back to open drain in floor or patio, Re-install/secure the screen so the screen would only let water pass through. Myself I would prefab two square frames that would wedge into the open floor drain so nothing would pass round the screens and put them a foot [about .304 meter (Please excuse my conversion if I’m wrong… a lifetime of never using the metric system/method)] apart which would give you a visual or or a clear line of sight of each screens so anything getting caught in screen can be removed before flooding the entire area! Once all of the connections are completed re-bury the drain lines and return sod to the original position! Job now done and I’ll bet I could have done most of the repairs for less $30 US dollars once this man has found the problem and his cost was covered! Actually finding the real problem is usually what cost so much! I did love your water pressure system but I have used a shop vacuums and anger the same way! The estimate of $70??? Is a pipe dream of lazy contractor who give this type of bid knowing their workers will repair the problem while doing the new up dates… pipe dreams!

      Where this was filmed our lowest day time temp recorded is 50f so really no chance of anything freezing here. And that drain and pipe is clearly something added a long time after that house was built. To be fair some homeowner wanting a cheap fix for flooding would have done that lol and that was never connected to the original main pipes. The bloke probably gave himself a good pat on the back after the job was done.

      Quote maybe on time and material giving a estimate of the hours and parts required for either a, "Repair" that they the client could live with for the medium term or a quote for the replacement Complete Job... Dig out where the Blockage then cut out and replace the pipe with an Access Junction No. 1 Straight Through Chamber for 110mm pipe same and depending on the damage you could get away with just that chamber and raisers a Frame and Cover for that AJ, failing that more new Pipework would have to be fitted and a few slip, Sewer Pipe Repair Collars 110mm ( 4") could sort same out....also packing and ramming under and around same with course Grit so as to maintain the fall ...and get them out of trouble...basically their Choice very lucky they met someone like yourself... great work, Great Channel...

    There is one cheap and extremely halfarsed way of bodging the fall in that grate/slot drain which is to lay a layer (more like a wedge) of concrete in the bottom of it that's sloped so that it creates a new floor to the channel with the correct fall. You'd end up with one end of the channel being very shallow and you'd need to scar up the concrete in the bottom of the channel a hell of a lot to get the new concrete to stick to it.

    That crushed pipe - I guess it's because someone was driving a too heavy vehicle over it and it was not buried deep enough. That fence is not a fence but a gate (or how did that boat and trailer get there?), I'd assume someone pushed it in with a car or a pickup truck or some such, crushing the pipe.

    Wow I don’t want to live in Australia if this is any example of the work they do. I got a quote of $11,000 US to put a French drain around the inside perimeter of my house, install a sump & pump and run a discharge line out. I passed and hired a few local labor guys. Trained them and inspected their work as the progressed. Material and labor for all was $2,500. Took 3 days. Maybe it’s me but to dig a small trench run a drain pipe and connect to the existing drain line for 20 thousand Australian is nuts. Yeah I know exchange rate still nuts.

    I love your video but could you answer a couple of questions if you have time? Besides the very high pressure of the jets do you have to worry about chemicals? I would imagine drain cleaners. fertilizers, and other chemicals that could eat your skin exist in the standing water. if it was me i would concrete the bottom of the drain to change its fall sure it will make it hold less but still work 100% better then it does as is and save loads of money i would even be cheap as to how to change that fall i would just fill it with water slowly till i have water up to the drain exit hole and spray paint with marking paint the surface of the water then suck out the water and there we go that would be level in the bottom at the very least lol

    $70K? You can redo all the plumbing and rebuild the house for that cost! Is there any way this thief can be reported and lose his ticket?

    That looks like 4 inch corrugated soft plastic pipe??? If it is, it’s supposed to be buried much deeper and have gravel backfill around it to keep it from getting crushed. Its really not a product that should be used outside of areas with lite foot traffic like a flower bed. Looks like the original installation was a diy special with no knowledge of drainage.

  • @robinloucks1351
    @robinloucks1351 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Jet downstream up the blockage. Allows water to drain instead of the backup you created.

    • @penetratorblockeddrains
      @penetratorblockeddrains  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How is that possible given I had no idea where the end of the pipe was???
      In this situation you need to investigate 🔬 and find where the pipe is going first

    Wait a minute. How much is 20k aussie to US dollars? And why would they use a flimsy ribbed pipe when a stiff smooth pipe is what the job calls for. I don't get it.

    That's like € 10.000,- more than they would charge here in the Netherlands. 😬

    Your quote of 20K seems kinda steep for just digging enough trench to repair and connect a few feet of pipe. That's why I glad I'm handy enough to do things myself. The costs of labor is way too high on most repairs.
