I had a four week vacation in Murmansk, Monchegorsk, and Saint Petersburg. I have to say that the rural people of Murmansk & Monchegorsk were the friendliest people I've met in a very long time, comparing them to the rest of the world. They're very similiar to americans in terms of politeness. And Saint Petersburg is by far the prettiest city I have ever been in, with of course the best Russian food, almost as good as rural homemade food. I would recommend any one to travel in depth to Russia at least once. It is a very eye opening trip, in terms of the people who live there. And just how similar they truly are to the rest of the world, without the filters of the media trying to obscure their absolutely beautiful country. Greetings from Norway
I was in Moscow last may and I can tell I will back any time I am American and of course westerners media and politicians portray Russia as a bad country but hey not all Americans are brainwashed by media. I hope to go back in the future. Greetings from Texas.
Bro, I'm from Serbia and I was also shocked when I first visited Moscow in 2021. I'm coming again in mid-September 2023. Mainstream media are portraying Russia in such a negative way, while the reality is almost 180 degrees different.
@@I_r_i_ No. But sometimes I watch western media, they portrait Russia in a negative way. And everybody in Serbia has TV channel #1 N1 - that's CNN for the Balkan. Republika Srpska is in the process of banning N1. ❤👍
Oh, thank you, dear friend! Italy is a wonderful country with wonderful people. Italians are very close in mentality to russians. I hope that one day you will come to Russia and make sure that russians are very friendly, and Russia is not what your politicians tell you. I hope that Italy and Russia will be friends one day and this friendship will make us all stronger. Greetings from Russia.
I'm a foreigner (from Europe) that have been living here in Moscow since 2017/2018. I have two restaurants here and business is doing great. I don't see any difference in young people walking around....and actually very very few people got mobilized from Moscow. It's pretty well known that most men that are in the Russian Army are from other oblasts and rural areas. Even in Ukraine, when these days men are openly kidnapped when walking down the streets, you can still find tons of young men walking in Kiev since the majority are kidnapped from rural areas or in the Eastern/Southern oblasts. Here in Moscow there was some panic when the partial mobilization was announced last year and many people fled temporarily but they are almost all back. Moreover I don't believe that most people are against this war...the ones that read Western propaganda or Western financed russian propaganda (Meduza, The Insider, Radio Liberty and garbage like that) are, but most people understand very well that the conflict started in 2014 with the US sponsored coup and was further provoked by NATO by rejecting all Russia proposals for a buffer zone in Ukraine. Basically it was either this war now or a major war later on that could have been much worse. Imagine if Russia had military bases in Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Venezuela ecc...what the US would have done? Back in 1962 they almost got nuclear because the Soviet Union dared to put some missiles in Cuba. Here we're talking about encircling Russia from all sides and contravening the agreements reached in the past about the NATO expansion towards Russia/Soviet Union. Not to mention the killing of the people in Donbass.
New McDonald's isn't actually that bad. To be honest, when I ate there, I didn't really see much difference. The fries are different in size, but the flavours are the same. That guy was too pessimistic and liberal haha.
Thank you for the video. There can't be any winter festivals in July. They were there in winter. And the soul is there. It always there. Russia's been through a lot even for past 100 years. But you can't just take away it's soul. I would say it was in danger at the early 90s when Russia didn't know where they were going, they were lost but now it stands it's ground and defends itself, it's culture, history and it's right to be there despite constant attempts of some other foreign governments to create problems for them intentionally. And even blaming and punishing Russia after that because they didn't surrender without fighting. It means they don't know Russia at all. That's it's soul.
@@yourmatematt Speaking for myself and everybody I personally know - just to explain how we, Russians, feel: imagine you have a brother, who became a junky. Someone put him on a needle and told him, that you are to blame for all his misfortunes. And then gave him an idea, that if he gets a real powerful gun, he can "get even" with you and your family. He starts bullying the ones who are dear to you, hurting them. You try to reason with him, but he's being fed with drugs and hatred towards yourself, bullying your family, hurting the ones who are your kin. You try to speak to his dealer, ask him to stop pushing your brother and not to give him a gun, but this dealer hangs up on you. And one fine day you see your stoned brother with a rifle in your driveway, backed up by his dealer and and their friendly policeman (let's say, they are schoolmates). You need to protect your children, your next of kin, you can't let him break in and hurt your family. And he won't listen to you. So you shoot first in thin air. This sobers you brother up for a moment, and he seems like ready to talk peace. But his buddies nudge him, handing out some more weapons. And he makes a move by putting a finger on a trigger. And you kill him. Kill your own doped brother. The one you've shared a bedroom with when you were children. The one with whom you built a tree house. The one you've had each and every Christmas together. And you cry over him. And you know, you'll be damned for life by your relatives. And you know you'll never find peace with yourself for doing that. But you have tried everything possible to prevent this, to save your family from menace. And till the end of times you will be sorry for what has happened, and till the end of times you will hate your brother's dealer and his goons for provoking this situation! That's how we feel now.
@@yourmatematt I actually know lot of things about it. I've been reading twitter and telegram about it from sources all around the world before the conflict even started. Some actual facts that are documented with videos and agreements. So maybe if you are interested I can say couple of words. Like it's a well known fact that ukr president threatened Russia that ukr will ask for nukes to have it in their country against Russia. He did it publicly at a conference in Germany. There is a video of it. 2 days later the conflict started. 2 weeks after it started Russia and Ukraine signed a peace agreement. There is an actual document there with Ukraine signature. But usa and british government didn't like it. They sent B.Johnson to convince Ukr president to continue the war. They said that they will give them money and weapon. That's info from american politicians even. And ukr president chose war instead of peace for the country and it's nation. He is using them, Ukraine is dying to be nato's b*tch. For them to use the country later. They sent over 100 billion$ already sponsoring the war. Considering that first they helped to organize state coup in ukr in 2014 to have loyal government there. That's the same period when Biden's son started working in their companies. And Biden publicly was bragging about how he personally chose who should be ukr general prosecutor. Etc. They used Ukraine for money and against Russia. Without them current conflict would not only have ended as soon as it began, but would never have happened at all. They like to be against war only in words for their media. And to be able to choke Russia with sanctions. This is top level hypocrisy. So many people have died while they seat thousands miles away and every day think how to prolong it and send even more money and weapons. Russia wasn't looking for this war, but when american nato decided to push them into a corner, Russia answered.
Gorky Park is just one of those parks that foreign tourists know. But it is not the biggest and not the best in Moscow. The largest park, which has entertainment in addition to natural beauty, is considered Izmailovsky, its area is 1,608 hectares. But really the largest park in Moscow is Moose Island - 12,881 hectares. :)

But it depends on who you ask. Mostly the really 'chronically online internet people' that're active on social media are the ones who are super Anglicized. The theme of trips to the countryside for the summer is much more developed in Russia than in the West. Most of the population has both an apartment in the city and a house in the countryside. Well, I don't think that new McDonalds (which is called "Tasty and that's it") is getting worse. The food is more or less the same as it was. Please, there is no need to artificially "attract" propaganda cliches about "half-empty streets of Moscow" or "the absence of middle-aged men." It's not good. If you have entertainment content, then study the topics you talk about in more detail. Many people have already written here that, firstly, in Russia it is now the height of the holiday season and vacations, people are resting outside the city or at sea. This happens every summer. Secondly, do you shoot on Sunday (is it morning?) - it's a day off in Russia and many people just sleep longer than usual. The largest flow of people takes to the streets in the late afternoon. The place where you started your video: this is the Lenin Library, there are never many people in this place, because it does not belong to the most popular tourist routes. Cars mostly drive there, so pedestrians choose other routes. And even more so, there is no need to invent about the "gloominess" of Red Square and "as if the soul had left it." Many festivals, concerts and exhibitions are still held there. As is customary - on a schedule, not around the clock. In general, I hope your next videos will be more informative and objective. You give the impression of a cheerful and active person, so your "inappropriate" and biased comments do not "fit" with your image in any way. Thanks for understanding.
Hi thanks for your comment - I have thought about what you said carefully but can only reflect on my own observations on the day. I lived in Moscow for 1 year and have experienced many days where people were 'out the city' but it still felt more quiet - and unfortunately one of the things that I did notice was a lack of men my age and younger on the street. Could be coincidence but it also could be because of the large number of men sent to battle.

Matt, you don't see many people on the streets of Moscow for several reasons. First, the center of Moscow is a tourist place and there are really fewer tourists due to negative propaganda and problems with direct flights. Secondly, there are always fewer people in Moscow in the summer, because this is the period of holidays, when everyone leaves the city. Come in September and get on the metro at rush hour and you will find that Moscow is still very crowded. In addition, a lot of companies have switched to remote work since the pandemic and continue to work that way. For example my IT company of 1,000 now operates entirely remotely and many employees moved to cheaper and quieter cities.

3:30 "thousand brands left the country" we have now the information that there are 1000 out of 13 000 foreign companies who left, so not that much of a percentage😊
Hi Matt, i understand how you feel. I lived in Moscow for 15 years and actually worked in the building right behind you in 1:44 opposite Kremlin. Absolutely the best years of my life so far. Sending lots of love to Russian people and Mother Russia!
I'm not sure what's the right term for that in English, but you just have way too much imagination. There is no way there would actually be less people on the streets because of mobilization. It haven't been that severe yet to notice the change.
I can't agree with the guy at the former McDonald's. The Russian version is tastier. The products have become more natural. I wasn't a fan of this place before. And now sometimes I come in. To everyone who watches this video, warm greetings from Moscow. Arrive. Our people are very hospitable and friendly. See you😊
The food seems healthier, place appears clean and sparkling, people seems relaxed and enjoying life. That's what people all over the World want, to enjoy life, live and let live. Well, for those companies that left, well, let the young generation become creative entrepreneurs create and diversify businesses . McDonald in the U.S. is just as bad here as your Taste n Go over there in Moscow. It rests with the quality of food and how the employees prepare it and there attitude. I wonder if a sandwich there is just as expensive there for the same or less.
On weekends (Saturday and Sunday), people living in big cities in Russia go out of town to nature, in Russia it is called a "Dacha" (a country house with a territory around it)!
You are very lucky to take a walk in the summer also on Sunday, when there are few people on the streets of Moscow! There is silence around in a huge city!👍🏻
15:00 its funny that this guy claimed that it was worse than McDonald's and getting worse every month, when i think the opposite is true, the new McDonald's is improving every month where in the beginning it was shitty, now I'd say it's almost as good as the og McDonald's was. Keep in mind that McDonald's in Russia is not the same as McDonald's in the US quality-wise. Mcdonalds in the US is literally junk food while in Russia it was actually quite nice, especially the chicken nuggets and the cheesy sause
This mate is clearly not inclined to believe everything that he is told (from either side), he wants to check and make sure of everything himself. I don't see any problem with this! Being surprised at unusual things is also normal, this does not mean that he scolds the way we have it. In any case I hope he has a great time in Russia!

Thank you for showing the true beauty of Red Square. I vow to visit, and the way things are going, maybe move there, some day! Bless the amazing Russian people, with love ❤
Summer in Moscow is generally more quiet - people prefer the countryside. There's almost no traffic jams during the Summer months. Wait till the end of August the circulation will reach its peak on the 1st of September - first school day.
Its summer. Usually Moscow is more empty during summer. Many people travel somewhere, many stay at dacha outside of Moscow. Its Normal for Moscow to be less crowdy during summer.
I'm a man and your age and there are plenty of us about in St. Petersburg. When the mobilization was announced there was some panic amongst some people and many started to stay indoors and not go out much; but that's long since passed.
@@yourmatematt it was about 200 000 all over the huge Russia last year. Russia is a 140 million people. So you should go different places in Moscow and you"d found out a lot of people there

Mcdonald was never the best place to eat but it was the cleanest place with washrooms. Actually, comparing US, Canada and Russian McDonald's, Russian had better meat in burgers - probably food standards diffent in countries because it was using local products (meat, potato, etc). But basically, it is plastic food - I stopped eating it in 90th after one man told me how to recognize good food - eat it cold. If you can't eat it cold, better avoid it. ps I am visiting Moscow every 2-3 weeks
It's better to take pictures of how cold it is here and poverty is all around. We will continue to live in beautiful and clean cities. Half of Europe will come now and want to stay in a normal society with a beautiful Russian wife. I'm kidding, of course, Moscow and St. Petersburg have long become attractive international megacities where anyone can build their life. We welcome all normal people.

I lived not far from Zambia's embassy in Moscow for 3 years ) Come visit us, it should be fun )

Interesting - I'm interested in your option about the ukraine situation
Wow, you've nailed it! 100% true! Thanks! Love from Moscow 💐

Hello there!
BTW, I want to ask something unusual. Is it true that some dutches find their own language ugly, even shameful comparing to english?
@@GrafMKristo Many of them, yea. Maybe the majority, but I don't know if this has ever been surveyed.
I heard Danish people and Nords in general feel the same way about their languages. Netherlands + Scandinavia are also the places where people speak English ultra-fluently as 'second language'. Often times they speak English better than their supposed mother tongue . But it depends on who you ask. Mostly the really 'chronically online internet people' that're active on social media are the ones who are super Anglicized. Dutch from the countryside or those that have jobs on the ground not so much.
@@fartz3808 I see. Thank you for your detailed response.
I'm asking because one Dutch streamer called Insym is astonishingly fluent in English. I'd say he's an american if I hadn't known his origins.
Also he keeps avoiding speaking dutch at all costs. He several times made a funny challenge by switching his game's language to another: there were german, poland, finn. He was constantly asked to play Dutch by the watchers, yet he refused.
Unfortunately he's the only one Dutch person I know so I made my conclusions in accordance to his behavior.

Sounds good!
Well, I don't think that new McDonalds (which is called "Tasty and that's it") is getting worse. The food is more or less the same as it was. Btw it is like three tiimes cheaper than in other countries. BigHit (new name of a BigMac) costs something around $1.82. If it was still called BigMac, than it would be cheapest BigMac in the world (in Belgium, the sandwich costs $5.94, while Italian McDonald’s diners are paying $7.13 for it)

Do not believe the propaganda and welcome, we are very glad to see you
Matt, you don't see many people on the streets of Moscow for several reasons.
Yes. Fair enough
