i'mnot sure what kind of rope he used. but after an Exhausting multiple fail and finally success at dipping cloth to make a fountain, i would say that it is a cotton one. most likely a cheap one that you can usually get at any dollar store. Keep in mind that the tighter the weave of something the longer wit will need to soak in the cement. so it will need to be thoroughly soaked in water first. the nice about using portland cement ( NOT mortar or concrete mix) is that it gives you a lot longer working time. Also keep in mind that any time it's above 70 f you're most likely going to need to wet cure it. otherwise it dries to fast and cracks. hard lesson i learned... it's a little deceiving in these videos bc they speed the timing up. another thing they leave or cut out is that sometimes you will need to use more than just that 2nd coat of cement to make it solid and not flimsy. so if you do, make sure you take a spray bottle and wet the surface down Before apllying another layer. otherwise it will just flake off. another hard lesson learned,.

@@marytramp5678 I have quite a bit of sisal rope I'm going to have a go with, not sure how well the cement will soak in to it.
What's the ratio of cement to water?
