This is a great format for an upgrade guide! It's so hard to find recommendations for decks that don't just suggest using every established $20-50 staple - seeing both the optimized version and quick budget upgrades to make the deck feel better to play is very helpful. Looking forward to more of these in the future.
Thanks! We think these will be really helpful for precons like this and the new starter decks moving forward and for now with set leaders we'll mainly stick to our deck guide videos rather than upgrade guides and see how things go :)
The flavor for this deck rules. It’s all about their training during the timeskip and thus focuses on increasing costs to give the strawhats a payoff, I love it.
Great video for a beginner like me but please don’t double stack the deck images. On #3 I had a hard time figuring out sabo behind Rebecca and the events in deck 2. Maybe include deck lists in description?
I love this video structure!! I've been playing this game for only a few months so far, and I know how daunting it can be to get started (especially when it comes to spending money). Helping players upgrade a starter deck is a great idea, and I love the levels, so people can get cards at their own pace. Your warmth and emphasis on players having fun is the cherry on top. A++!! Many roses!! 🌹 🌹 🙇🏻♂️
thank you so much! obvious shill but if you enjoyed this im sure you'll enjoy plenty more to find on our channel as well as all our OP08 content coming up :D
Amazing video, the level idea is great and the fact that you included op08 is also very nice because it is so close to release. Just a great video all around 😊
I like it, but mostly because I had a very similar list I put together yesterday, minus the set 8 additions. Lol I went Blocker Shirahoshi over Laboon, but I can see the argument for it. Personally, don't think Haredas is too necessary since everything is getting at least +1 cost with Luffy, and Straw Hats getting another from stage. I expect that extra +1 and +2 alone can really drain resources that focus on cost removal. Going odd curve, Stage, Brook, Sanji/Luffy, Robin all coming in smooth and sticking can be pretty scary I imagine. Lol Even better following even curve and giving Luffy a DON each turn so they're all +2. But its mostly speculation. A friend of mine is trying the more removal based route. I'm considering possibly a more aggro plan. Since it came with a handful of vanilla cards, I want to see how that goes. Maybe try something with the Navy cards that get bonuses for opponent cards having 0 cost characters. But that'd probably detract from what I was initially thinking.
Really insightful! Heradas is really in the final build as a precaution that fills our 2k slot and diversifies our routes in doing so rather than just slotting in generic 2k counter or 2k counter that plays into pieces already in the deck.
@JoyBoysTCG That is fair. My list only came out with 8 +2K's, so still needs some tweaking. And he is the better +2K the deck offers. Granted, I'm still running the +3 event for the draw power and extra staying potential. Could probably mix and match them. Pretty excited to see it run when he's ready, though. My friend has actually really liked the concept from when he first saw the cards for it.
Another great video, as always! Just what I needed to see after my friend accidentally bought 2 starter decks, so is gifting me one! Seriously, I can't wait to see what you guys cook up for the OP09 Purple/Black Luffy leader.
The only problem with toy soldire is you can't activate it when playing off moria if your also trying to combo with an onplay KO character since they both play simultaneously
Well only two weeks until they come out, I like black sakazuki 6 cost as a replacement removal piece or if you're more concerned with just having a good large body, the 7 cost dressrossa Luffy is good as a big strawhat piece. The who's who's can be literally any 2k you like that you feel well help your play style the best. For a KO replacement TBone from EB01 is the most obvious go to
6 drop sakazuki could be a good Jack Replacement, you could also lean away from KO and into high cost stuff and play 7 cost Luffy from OP04! The Who's Who I would just run any 2k you like that can be recurred off rebecca (3 cost or higher)
so while your leader luffy has a don on it your characters gain 1 cost. the second it leaves the leader the cost goes down 1. ie you can never give them more than 1 cost additional from leader
8 cost Sabo is a pretty great addition as its become evident one of the weaknesses of black Luffy compared to a deck like black Lucci is it's difficulty clearing multiple bodies in one turn with effects. Stussy not so much as it puts you at a resource deficit and if you're concerned about clearing bodies bigger than say 8 cost consistently there's just more flexible tools to achieve that and be good in other scenarios still
This game seems so complex and really varies with the color restriction on teams past just acting as a limiter on what cards can be used in unison. I picked up 2 of these starter decks in a panic today just to see what the games like and even though it’s pretty intimidating, I’m gonna give it a shot and use ur advice to build the team so thanks bro 👌
thats awesome! I really hope it works out! Honestly most games have some sort of color/type based deck building restriction except like Yugioh that I can think of. You'll pick it up pretty fast since its relatively intuitive
absolutely! We'll be making these for all the upcoming starter decks closer to their release, and have review videos up for the base product going through all the cards soon!
Sure! So basically 1 if you're playing the straw hat centric build you want to ALWAYS have stage out every match for as long as possible. So playing 4 copies helps us mulligan for it/see it as soon as possible. And then with this card it has on play draw a card replacing itself. So even if you draw multiple, paying 1 don to just replace it with a new card from deck is such a low price to generate a new card. Which also keeps your card selection tighter by virtually lowering the total cards in deck
The SP that's a reprint? It's definitely a decent option if you need more reduction and are willing to shore up your 2k count for it because tsuru isn't doing enough. But generally it's giving against tsuru being a more useful 2k counter with on play reduction and laboon with more redition for 1 cost more. Since she's an activate main and thus can't be used when played off a Rebecca combo since she enters rested.
its definitely a cool pick for the deck! I think it could be a great jack replacement if you wanna go all in before OP08! I personally want to lean into my high cost removal having activate main like jack so that it can pair best with robin since it may be the card you're using to turn her ability on
Nah we tried making stuff but vibes were off and then Luke went on a heater and wanted to just lock in, unfortunately last couple rounds washed him out of top cut

I'm new to the game and just bought this starter deck, the video helped me understand how to play the deck properly! Thank you!
As someone who just started I appreciate this video. Hope u can make more starter deck upgrade videos.
Yup! We'll have ones for the new starter decks out closer to their release

Fantastic!!! This would be cool for everyone new starter deck coming as well 🎉🎉🎉
*whistles inconspicuously*
Love this guide, thanks for breaking it down for us deck building noobs!
Of course! Deckbuilding is my favorite part of card games! - Mike
Need more of these types of video for us starter deck players 🔥🦍

Forked up a pretty penny to build stage 2 ill give feedback on my 1st game ever thanks alot !
Best of luck I hope it goes well! Brooks went up over 50% since I recorded this so hopefully it works out for ya!!
Love your channel vids like these ❤
omg thanks so much :D we have plenty of stuff on the way as we closer to OP08
The only problem with toy soldire is you can't activate it when playing off moria if your also trying to combo with an onplay KO character since they both play simultaneously
of course! It's to combo with your on attack triggers like 5c luffy or 3c brook, while buffering our 2k counter count
Thank you🎉
What’s a good replacement for jack and who’s who ? Please respond

Silly question, the up 1 cost ability from black luffy leader can be stacked each turn?
so while your leader luffy has a don on it your characters gain 1 cost. the second it leaves the leader the cost goes down 1. ie you can never give them more than 1 cost additional from leader
i was wondering, what about stussy 9c or sabo 8c ? Do they hold any value for this deck?
8 cost Sabo is a pretty great addition as its become evident one of the weaknesses of black Luffy compared to a deck like black Lucci is it's difficulty clearing multiple bodies in one turn with effects.

Im pretty new, can i ask why there are 4 stage cards? I thought if you put a stage card its gonna stay there the whole game

Two legends tashigi good for the deck?

I have one singular question, do
????
@@JoyBoysTCG I stopped typing and put my phone in my pocket and forgot all about this lol, Reddit answered my question tho
@@JoyBoysTCG it was whether the leader and stage ability effected the cost to summon characters
