    I'm preparing to pull the ZF5HP24 transmission and torque converter for a refurbishment, and I was wondering if it was necessary for you to support the rear of the engine, or does it stay in place without the need of an engine support. Your video on the transmission removal will be my go to resource. Thank you.

      Yes. I would recommend supporting the engine. Failure to do so could be expensive and dangerous. Damage to the engine mounts would likely be the lest of the issues. As always I point to the service manual as the best way to do any project correctly and safely even if i do not fallow it myself sometimes.😁

    Your videos are so helpful thank you! I think I have a broken vane in my 1998 XK8 Torque converter...getting a really nasty rattle on idle. Did you remove the TC from this transmission? My vague plan is to get a replacement TC, try and switch it out, fresh fluid and filter and pray for no more rattle! Does that sound even possible without a nice lift like you have? You don't happen to be anywhere near Houston, do you?! :-)

      Dropping the transmission is much easier on a lift but possible with jacks, stands and ramps. Just be very careful if you go this route and make sure it is stable and on a solid surface. That being said this sounds more like a catalectic converter from your explanation. The cats can rattle if they break loose inside. I suggest slowly changing the RPMs while parked and see if the rattle changes at all. If it does you can get a cheap tool much like a doctors stethoscope with a thin rod on the end and listen that way to find the location of the rattle. You can also tap the cat while cold or hot with a rubber mallet and see if it rattles. Best of luck to you.

    By chance do you know the size of the Bellhousing Bolts? Parts are discontinued and are hard to look up

      @@weekendwarriorgarage4402 That's nice. Are in California by any chance? :) Maybe you can help a fan one day, when business is slow maybe. My Xkr could use some work and I'd rather give my money to a person like you then to a person that would butcher my car. ;)
      In any case please, keep the videos on coming, you're good at it and you're doing a really great job! I wish you all the success you deserve with your channel.

    Do you have to remove the exhaust to get it out or did you just do it for other reasons?

    • @weekendwarriorgarage4402
      @weekendwarriorgarage4402  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. The catalytic converters and center muffler will be in the way when removing the transmission. The pipes and secondary mufflers will be in the way of removing or lowering the drive shaft. The final most rear third mufflers and tail pipe can just hang loose if you wish.
