    How to start in 25? Dont. Market needs 0 more breeders too many animals as it is

    • @LeviathanSnakes
      @LeviathanSnakes  13 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      We got in during 2020 and which was right when prices were super inflated and have done well. People who get in now when prices are much more reasonable are in a much better position in my opinion. Regardless, if people primarily want to breed to make money, there are way better ways to make money, but it is very possible to get the breeding hobby to pay for itself which is certainly not true for the other hobbies I have (videography, Pokemon card collecting, book collecting, and mtg).

    how do you justify having that many snakes in such little an dark tubs there entire life instead of a more focused scale with enclosures definitely disturbing watching breeding like yourself just aiming to mass produce

    • @LeviathanSnakes
      @LeviathanSnakes  13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Ball pythons can be a bit finicky eaters and tub style enclosures tend to get them to have a stronger feeding response due to the dark sides making them feel like they are hidden and not exposed to potential predators. In addition, tubs have better control over the temperature and humidity and are significantly easier to clean.
      We also use display style vivs for the animals that are going to pet homes in order to make it an easier transition for pet keepers, but the tub style enclosures generally are better to use for new hatchlings as they will get the new hatchling eating faster which is critical since hatchling can easily starve themselves to death if you don’t get them established fast enough or for breeding animals which tend to go off food during the breeding season.
      There tends to be a sensationalized debate between tubs and vivs online, but we believe both styles excel at different things. In general, for breeders it doesn’t make much sense to keep ball pythons in an enclosure style that increases the chances that a ball python won’t eat, and for a pet keeper it doesn’t make sense to keep a ball python in a tub where you can’t see them.

      Hate to say it but that's 95% of breeders even the ones u look up to amd admire. I spent yrs saying what u r. Then my collection just grew. Now, I'm over it and I'm headed back to being a keeper. Making great snakes is ez, running a business is NOT

    Considering ball pythons live up to 50 years and there are almost 4,000 of them on morph market right now i can see the market crashing very soon. It is completely saturated in my opinion.
    But good luck to you.

      Compared to the amount of households that own a reptile in the U.S. (a bit more than 6 million according to the American Pet Products Association) if just 1% of current reptile owners bought an additional ball python, MM would be sold out and that is assuming no new reptile keepers enter the hobby. Personally, I think the availability number on MM is used to make it seem like there is an over production but a bit of context puts it into perspective.

      This! I work with the public, and have a reptile "mascot" in my office and I've noticed more and more people are interested in reptiles as pets, much more so than in years past. The stigma of owning a snake is fading which will open the doors for more and more new reptile keepers to join the hobby and therefore increase demand.
