The explanation I've often seen is that it was to prevent a loop of Woodland Sprite + Butterfly Dagger - Elma from working. I can't confirm that it's true; the evidence amounts to "this was announced around the time those cards were released, and people were publicly speculating about such a loop".
@@nocsu4850 honestly it's not that hard to understand it, but I don't know why siberian isn't taking his time to explain it to the group. Honestly I'd love to see side sets in Zexal. Like the most important xyz came from Shonen Jumps and mangas like I'm so hype for y'all's Zexal run. Wind Up ups are gonna be fun to watch they're so low rarity
For what it's worth, in Duel Links, the interraction with Herra and Gallim did not cause a missing of timing. I don't know if it was because Herra was in the GY but I don't see why that would be relevant to the ruling.
You can actually make genex builds that are really good at turboing at trishula, and replenishes your hand. I love those guys, maybe it's possible to make a tier 4 r-genex link build.
Side sets like this would have been good throughout this season -- just imagine someone trying to force jurrac, failing hard, only to have it come right back around again four episodes later with new support. But as soon as they start becoming side sets with full archetypes in them, that shit would be the worst. For 5DN, fine.
In terms of side sets, I think cimoo and gage were thinking of doing all the side sets after they reached the end of the series, so maybe you could do the same? Just have it as a 8th season after you've finished MR5, with season zero as the theme song. Most side sets to begin with aren't packs though, so you need to get some way of randomly selecting from cards not in packs. e.g. first week I'd suggest using some randomiser software that picks from a mix of Starter deck Kaiba, Starter deck Yugi, and the early tournament packs and promo cards, weighted by rarity (with set rotation before this new season of course).
Leah: "Medium of the Ice Barrier is really good" MBT: "...you have to really be losing to summon this card" Leah: "Yeah well you're playing Ice Barriers" That was my favorite part lmao
It would be cool if you make the winner picks a side set and you all get like 5 packs from it, that way you don't have to make ole episodes for side sets but still get dem. Can even pick cards from structures and make everyone have access to it, instead of the ole structure
I'm game for you guys dipping into side sets. In addition to cool reprints, they add quite a variety of decks that you can use. Plus, you get more episodes in total at the end of it! So we all win!
Y'all should give each person one copy of the first starter and structure deck of the Zexal series. I'd say you start the season with whichever is released first and the remaining deck isn't given until set released after the deck. That way you get a jump of support that was released before the set but wasn't viewed in the previous.
I think the only thing ice barriers were missing in the main deck back then was deck searches. If they had that they probably would have been popular due to Trishula. Now they have general Wayne and revealer who make it much more playable. Not the best thing ever but strong for how cheap they are, I beat drytrons with them the other day. I had frogs though.
@@louisgrant3170 lol pretty sure banishing all your opponent's stuff is a win condition. It was just way too hard to get to back then because trishula requires 3 monsters to summon. :p If he actually gets summoned it's deadly, and they now have trishula zero which is even more deadly in many situations.
@@louisgrant3170now that summoning 3 monsters is far more routine, trishula and trishula zero are far more playable than they were previously. And the newest ice barriers can special summon themselves so often that you can play through at least one negate. If your opponent has many negates then you are indeed fucked unless you have a kaiju, but gameciel is actually useful for the deck outside his kaiju ability so no reason not to play him at 3 in the main. If you do it that way you can beat a bunch of meta decks lol.
@@Gwenth yeah, the problem at that point was that there were just no ice barriers that were even decent. For me, when I'm faced with a dragoon or some such, I attempt to summon general Wayne, and they rightfully use their negate on that. If they have a bunch of negates then I'm fucked but if that's the only one they have then I'm gonna wreck them lol. And I just find that many decks rely too much on dragoon. But ones that don't I'd have much more trouble with.
The Deck Build Packs could be fun for prog because they're notoriously terrible at actually letting you build most of the included decks, plus legacy support for those archetypes could end up wasting your high rarity pulls. Imagine Joseph pulling, like, Nekroz of Brionac.
I think allowing a structure deck at the beginning would be great. That way the variance in your week one pulls aren't so game determinative, and the series can count on everyone having at least a small pool of decent cards everyone has access to.
It just occurred to me that with this additional 5Ds era episode of progression playoffs, giving the losers from two episodes ago their opportunity to ban could very much have been potentially relevant.
29:10 “I can’t out Ally Justice Cataster!” He says with a Dark Monster with more Atk Points. Cataster can def be crazy, but is definitely easy to beat if you can access the extra deck.
I think it would be cool if you guys started adding the structure and starter decks into the series. It helps with giving you guys extra deck options when starting off the new seasons and a lot of zexal support was utopia specific which only came out in starter decks.
Gachi Gach and Utopia along with early Zexal structure decks played a huge rule in the early Zexal metagame. I can't wait to see what it looks like without them.

Dino DNA? Winning with Dinos? I see. MBT has been iniciated on the ways if the Dino Chad.
In all seriousness, congrats on winning the Arsenal playoffs. The deck was BASED asf.
Side sets seem like they would be really fun for this kind of one-off episode where you surgically remove the elements that would obviously ruin them
I think each new season should start with everyone getting access to 1 copy of the OG starter deck for that generation. And side sets would be dope
I was against this at first, but honestly it was really fun to watch. I hope you do these in the future. And congrats to the winner!
"So how many cards do we have to ban in order to play this episode with the new decks?"
" Y E S . "
I mean if they didn't they would just be playing constructed which kinda defeats the purpose of playoffs.
"Every 'Worm' has a different letter of the alphabet as their second word, and they're running out of them"
So when are we getting Worm @Ignister?

This new Pokerap is sounding fire ngl
Leah: "Medium of the Ice Barrier is really good"
MBT: "...you have to really be losing to summon this card"
Leah: "Yeah well you're playing Ice Barriers"
That was my favorite part lmao
It would be cool if you make the winner picks a side set and you all get like 5 packs from it, that way you don't have to make ole episodes for side sets but still get dem. Can even pick cards from structures and make everyone have access to it, instead of the ole structure
I'm game for you guys dipping into side sets. In addition to cool reprints, they add quite a variety of decks that you can use. Plus, you get more episodes in total at the end of it! So we all win!
I'm glad they're getting more experimental with the Playoffs OVA
So you're telling that from now on we also get to watch someone Unwin the Underbracket? I'm all for it. Underachieve, overwhelm!
I actually really loved this, side sets are cool, and I loved mbt's deck this episode.
The deck didn't have a win condition. Nothing short of releasing the entire structure deck would have made IB playable.
If you do it that way you can beat a bunch of meta decks lol.
but Medaillon was a non once per turn E-Call for the entire archetype released wayy back in Starstrike Blast... (5'Ds)
In Sweden there was a TV show named "biggest loser Sweden"
And the aim of the show was, you guessed it, to crown the biggest loser in Sweden
This freaking Raiho discussion could have been avoided if Gavin just attacked with the turtle lmao
He was trying to avoid battle tricks
There's a lot of fun strategies I'd love to see from side sets that weren't included in the original progression series
Firedog also had a place in decks running Horn of the Phantom Beast and Flame Tiger.
It just occurred to me that with this additional 5Ds era episode of progression playoffs, giving the losers from two episodes ago their opportunity to ban could very much have been potentially relevant.
Not going to lie when you were talking about the bans it sounded like the Pokémon rap also a few lines during the card set list

“I can’t out Ally Justice Cataster!”
He says with a Dark Monster with more Atk Points.
Yes, this was pretty fucking good. Make more content like this, well done Joseph
Daaamn, no one playing my guys, the Dragunitys. Also the The Selection shenanigans with X-Sabers was great
I think you guys should give everyone a base utopia in zexal like you would have given everyone the six star gaia
I think side sets would be great! I was excited to see Jurracs in this episode, they're one of my favorite decks in Over the Nexus
tbh, I sometimes get brent and gavin confused because they have very similar voice
Joseph's "But First!"s are getting to be as expected as Cimoooooo's "However"s, aren't they?
Definitely integrate the side sets. It adds a nice bit of spice and helps fill out decks.
Gachi Gach and Utopia along with early Zexal structure decks played a huge rule in the early Zexal metagame. I can't wait to see what it looks like without them.
If Gungnir isn’t limited to water non-tuner, she’s probably become 7 star staple synchro along with Black Rose. At least she came back as Ophion later.
