Hi Fi system was developed for Video 2000 existed in prototypes, it was based on PCM coding. Mini video cassettes called Mini2000 were also developed and worked and digital recording. These options did not go into production.
First generation Philips Video2000 from 1982. Good to see a working one!

Excellent film congratulations. Video 2000 in theory was an excellent system it was however too expensive and advanced for the time and European manufacturers could not count on government protection of their electronics industry as much as the Japanese.The system due to the flood of cheaper and simpler VHS VCRs and Betas did not have time to mature and for its defects to be eliminated and this was technically possible. I recommend looking at the Philips VR 6560 and 646x series of VCRs, e.g. 6462, and the Grundig vs 200 and 300 models.These were VHS produced in 1984-86 but built on the Video 2000 VCRs and incorporating many of their circuitry and features. My grandparents rented a Philips VR2021 around 1982. The VR2021 is identical to the VR2022 but without the picture search and freeze frame. The VR2020 looks similar but some of the buttons are in a different order and the tape counter is smaller. The "attention timer" indicator is also in a different location on the VR2020. I believe the original VR2020 had a number of issues, so the VR2021 was probably a replacement for this model with all the issues fixed.
Great video MISU. This technology was ahead of its time. It's a pity that it came late and didn't take off. I'm sure if it was popular, Philips would have added Hi-Fi audio.

Ironically, it was the tape format that never reached the year 2000... VHS and Beta did :)

some other little technical details that can be nice to know :
the DNS : V2000 come in standard with audio tape noise reduction, and is quite efficient.
and they also probabely had the best DOC circuitry ever made for a consumer grade vcr.
i definitely love them, and live in europe (france) and luckily they're not so rare here, but not so easy to get a working one "out of the basement" :)
but their failures very often simply come from bad capacitors.
if you're also lucky to put your hands on the more rare and very short lived grundig SVR, it'll be a very interesting one to discover.
I have featured SVR on my channel, I have one working and another to be tackled one day. I've also done lots on V2000.
I'm not impressed by the picture quality of V2000. It has much more luma and chroma noise than Beta.
V2000 failures are due to many things apart from capacitors, including connectors (Grundig especially but also Philips), hybrid module failures (Philips), failures in the high voltage and complex DTF circuits, ICs fail, relay contacts (both Grundig and Philips), leaky batteries, mechanical issues and more. They are just unreliable.

for the luma noise (mostly edge noise), it's true with firsts VR23xx (those with the black bridge). i don't know what they did, but they're definitely worse than first 20xx series. then they improved again with those with the white bridge.
they also replaced the head amp, and even improved the drum itself. more recent ones have very small head tips, i guess for the XL feature, but also helped a bit for SP. but all in all, revised 23xx are quite good.
your really were unlucky with the hybrid ic failure. i have near 10 of 23xx series, and never saw that personally.
(and btw beta cheated with luma noise reduction circuitry which kill some resolution, not philips :))
