  • Rahul Gandhi addressed a public rally at Hingoli, Maharashtra on April 15, 2014.
Confident of victory in the ongoing elections, Rahul Gandhi assured the people of Maharashtra that the Congress Party will form a government of the poor, weaker and backward sections of the society, and that every poor person will have a pucca roof over their head.
"We worked on our manifesto for six months because we wanted to know what you want. When we form the government, we will give you the right to health, shelter and pension," he said at a massive rally in Hingoli, adding that the Congress Party believes in partnership of the poor and business.
Rahul Gandhi dismissed speculations of a wave in favour of the opposition party and said, "We will form the government." He said that the Gujarat model is not only anti-poor, it is also against scheduled castes, and other backward communities. "They talk about dalits. There are so many unemployed dalit youth in Gujarat and even though there are vacant positions in the state government, they don't get these jobs. There are 600 panchayats that even now do not have SC reservation. And their state budget for the community is a mere 5 per cent," he said.
Thanking the people of Maharashtra for showing the way of love and brotherhood, Rahul Gandhi said that the parliamentary election this time is a battle of ideologies. "We want to push people forward, give them rights and empower them. On the other hand is the BJP. They don't want to give power to the people. They want to concentrate power in the hands of one man. They believe he is the only person in India who has all the knowledge and wisdom. We believe that this knowledge and wisdom is with you and our job is to enable and empower you," he said.
Expressing happiness over participation of women in the rally, he assured them that he will continue to push for 33 per cent reservation in the parliament, adding "I promise you that this bill will be the first to be taken up when we form the government."
