This is just fantastic! I really think this is important to keep American flyers alive and moving forward teaching the younger generation and introducing them to what it was like to have trains under the tree that our grandparents used to have. 😊❤️💯👏🚂
This may be too late, but I am 70, and have never had an American Flyer train. I think the choo choo sound and smoke is what attracts people to electric trains. That is something you never outgrow. Would love to have a steamer under the Christmas tree, to bring back memories of the 1950s.
lol, I love it! I used to do this for kids back when I was your age! Then my extras all dried up. This is awesome that you are continuing a tradition. The best way to get people interested. Great job Austin! You’re the best!
This is probably the third or maybe fourth time I've watched this since I began following your channel. This idea is FANTASTIC !! Here it is already the end of July 2024 and stores are already putting out Christmas decorations. I think making people aware of the quality of American Flyer is important. I also think if he could, A. C. Gilbert would have a big THANK YOU for your efforts. I'm proud to say I know you.
What a great idea my friend. I have to believe you will have a number of people who are interested in getting a set from you. Super video and I hope there will be a follow up vid on those who joined the ranks of Flyer enthusiasts. Bless you brother.
Great Video and being able to see the 282 running and making the great American Flyer sound. Now I can't wait until you get mine to service and get it sounding that good again.
Thank you for bringing the train to work. I had fun and learned a little as well. I do see a train set in the near future. This will be fun for my grandkids and I to play with.
You have a great idea. I have a few sets that have been in boxes for a couple decades that I would love to set up for friends or a club, nursing home, etc. at Christmas time. I was thinking an organization could have a benefit where people could come, bring their kids, see a nice Christmas train layout and contribute to a charity. Right now I don't have much room at my house but would love to have the sets see the light of day.
Hey Austin! Love this so so much and love that you are sharing the hobby with others- I sent you an email wih a few questions that I hope you can help me with. All the best :)
I love this idea and your execution of it. Giving a value to the sets you are making is a very good idea because those who get the trains will be more likely to appreciate what they have and take care of it. When the day comes that I need to find new homes for what I have, I may use a process like this. Right now, I don't have enough to do this. I will be interested in the reactions of those who see the American Flyer Polar Express running in the lobby of our band concert Dec. 17. I may be the only person within many miles of here who has any American Flyer. I learned today we will be playing to a full house in a wonderful new performance hall. I will have to rely mostly on reports from whoever runs the train and watches out for it because I will be busy performing and will have very little time in the lobby after getting the temporary layout set up. I will try to put together a video about the event.
What a great plan Mark! I look forward to your reporting. If I may, please have either business cards, or a qr code to your youtube page so people who are interested can see more flyer in operation.
Like I said, this is an adult hobby for people who never received an American Flyer train. An old Postwar Lionel set may survive with young people for awhile but mine sure didn't! Great Idea for adults to finally have the train they never received as kids and never had a chance to destroy a set anyway. Mine lasted 2 weeks! My Uncle was right!
If you have not done so already, please share a link to your “introductory “ video. I would like to see it. I love your videos and appreciate all of the good and bad repair experiences. My fleet is growing because I’m gaining confidence in what I can get up and running again.
I have recently obtained a American Flyer 0-8-0 Loco with some stuff and not knowing anything about it was going to sell on ,wheels are in bad shape but the rest looks really good , googling led me to your channel as well as others which has brought my knowledge on , I have no S gauge track but your Xmas tree idea would give her a road at least once a year , its so well made i really like so dont know if to keep ? Bearing in mind I am in England would spares and obtaining a track ,controler be a problem .Great channel and outlook by the way .
Hi Colin. Welcome to Flyer! Thanks for the props. Original1 American Flyer Track is plentiful and cheap...I have plastic tubs of the stuff...$.50 for the good stuff and $.25 for the rusty stuff (needs cleaned and works fine). Good news is Flyer engines are usually not difficult to repair. If you are interested in parts ..send me an email and I'll connect you with a few parts options. E: aftrainfun@gmail.com
Marx guy here, you`re a kind and GODLY MAN, but my experience is that the public is too far removed from any interest in the Hobby. When I speak of it to neighbors or acquaintances, they give me the strangest looks. At 76 maybe I `m a Scary Old Fart. Merry Christmas and GOD BLESS.
A very good video Austin. Unfortunately American Flyer trains are best owned by adults or young people over 14. I was 10 when I got mine for my Birthday ànd had no idea how to not destroy it, which I did for the most part. 😢
Thanks Mike...and I really appreciate you doing the Caboose Challenge. I've been wanting to see we Flyer folks jump on the friendly competitive video bandwaggon

Congrats on one of the most meaningful videos ever. If our hobby is going to survive, we must bring in younger people.
Yes and Amen.

Great Idea! I have enjoyed by Royal Blue and 312 for many years. I put them up every year on my Christmas Village.

Lol...I'm sure there are many of my co-workers that would agree with you.
