My band teacher always said “Practice makes perfect, granted the practice is perfect.” He said playing a fast song slow but getting the notes right will help us much more than playing it the correct speed but with the incorrect notes
Bryce Offutt same! Break it up in pieces, and speed up just a little bit and start ‘collecting’ pieces slowly! (I play trumpet (and more) and you can use more instruments too!)
If you can play it slow, you can play it fast!
I prefer the saying "practice makes progress" because perfection is one's own idea it doesn't exist
Practice don't do shit, been playing for about 6 years and still at beginner stage
@Nick does Quad drumming jamming is practice but I haven't been jamming I've been practicing 6 years trying to hold and play with a pick and that is absolutely impossible.
It's too hard and i cant do it and it's not fair

its easier than u think, when you get over the backflip fear. the best way to learn is with a spotter

The fear is so real.
I was able to backflip for a while, but I bailed one hard and the fear got me. Now I can do it with a spotter, but on my own it's a no-no.
It's so frustrating when you lose progress in your learning :c
@@DustyHyphen i did it with a spotter and it helped me get over the back flip fear but i only felt confortable doing it like 1 month of practise

After rewatching this I after a couple years I realized that this video helped with everything I’ve done in the last 3 years this has been live. I got into rock climbing less than a year ago and around 3-4 months in I was about ready to throw in the towel. Instead tho, I begin to slow down and concentrate on the problem I’m front of me. Dropping out of school & growing back willpower
not sure if this was mention in the video as i haven't seen it yet but one i know of is setting a consequence if you don't achive your goal.
I recently started going to the gym 6 days ago, now for 2 weeks haven't stopped foot or even felt like going.

@Huckleberry Finn Pomodoro is just a technique or tool for concentrating a certain amount of time and then you take a break and do it again.
Hi Mike, I'm new but already a big fan of yours. I have a suggestion for your next video. You could learn some pen tricks like pen spinning. It looks easy but it's a hard learning skill that also looks very cool.

It's hard for a channel like him. Learning skills takes time, which means he doesn't get to post frequently. To beat the youtube algorithm you gotta upload much more frequently. It's not a coincidence that the biggest TH-camrs upload nearly every day

I wanted to learn how to play a song on the guitar, and my goal was to do it under a week. I've never touched an instrument with strings before, I can't read notes or anything but still, I did it.
The key was satisfying myself with achieving small goals. Learn 1 or 2 chords and then connect them... 3...4... This gave me a shot of dopamine all the time which literally made me addicted to practicing playing.
Sometimes when I took a break, and didn't play for a while, after the "nap time" I could play "perfectly" which I couldn't before burning out.
I remember when you teached Kim how to juggle... and in that video you showed that outline and it was quite helpful (I think it was called the learning curve)

Try mixing your practice. Try to write a song or play something outside of your genre
Mike Boyd. I love your videos and find them really entertaining, and ones like this are also very helpful! There is one video however in which you didn't complete the skill that you set out to do. This is your backflip video. Given that you've produced this video about learning how not to give up, I think you ought to try and complete the challenge of doing a backflip. I hope you take this challenge back up and good luck!
I haven't watched any of your recent videos (for 11-12 months or so) until today, but kept remembering the important tips. And they work! About a month ago I've signed up for a 10km run on June, 30th (5 weeks from now) and been training for couple of weeks, but didn't feel good about the progress. So I started practicing smarter: dropped the pace, started thinking about "now" more than "a kilometre away" and listening to myself, really properly tracking my progress, celebrating new records (HUGE help/motivator!!!) and sharing every success with a friend. I'm not a proper runner by any means, but over last 3 days ran 14,5km which feels great.

When playing tremelo style make sure that you plant your hand/wrist onto the guitar. This makes it soooo much easier to play faster.

kingbilly willy same here mate, I started 3 months ago and hit that plateau where I wasn’t making any progress and actually stopped for 3 weeks, until I watched his last video and got back into it
Opposite to Instructions I play for 1.5 year already and i still have the thing that i feel like i do not have any progress but it is normal, with time and patience you can do anything

I would love to see how you learn to play a fairly difficult song on piano for beginners. I personally have a piano but I keep quit learning. In my head I really want to learn to play it and be very good to show my parents what I can do with my piano. But i still keep quitting... I would love to see how you pick this up and see how you learn it so fast.

i just started out a few months ago and it can get really hard but when you accomplish your goal or milestone it feels better than anything in the world and one day you will be really good at it and look back at the time when you were struggling and thank god that you had the will to keep going
