I'm a big Iron Man fan, but I passed on this, won't be surprised if it ends up on clearance. I think when you hit the $25/figure price range, you stop being able to get away with the, "kids toy", excuse...at least for me.
If Hasbro isn’t going to do double ball jointed necks properly they might as well stick with the disc hinge. Obviously the double is better in theory and most practical applications, but they don’t care about function it seems.
I attribute it to the first movie but I like Iron Man bulky. It just makes sense to me that he would be bulky if it were actually a person inside of a suit. They aren't overly bulky, but I like the Extremis look and Model 70. They look like actual armor to me. I don't really understand how the other armors like the classic suit would actually function, and that just bugs me. The only slim suit I like is the Bleeding Edge, which is funnily my favorite suit of his, but some artists like Larocca drew it pretty bulky and that's more so how I prefer it. Also, thanks for this review because everybody else is raving about this figure but you may have saved me some money.
I am a huge Iron Man-love this figure. The sculpt is fantastic. I agree that the eye slits don’t match a lot of the interior artwork, but the interior art and cover art diverges quite a bit. Panel lining would have been nice. But otherwise, I think this figure is great! By the way, the swirling jet stream effect does wrap around the repulsor effect itself. You have to for the two together and then peg the repulsor blast into the foot or hand to hold the two effects together. The spiral jet effect looks best as a contrail under the jet boots.
Whenever I need to know if a fig is worth buying I come straight here! ANTHONY'S C. is definitely my "one-stop-shop" for straight forward, NO bias, NO B.S. reviews that end up saving my collections AND wallet! SO GLAD YOU'RE HERE, Anthony!!! Keep killin' it!!! (STILL can't get over that Threezero HALO Master Chief all those years ago...)
I think I prefer a middle ground for Iron Man armor size. Not as skin tight as the classic armors or like the Bleeding Edge one, but not as bulky as Silver Centurion. I think my favourite is Model 25/Pre Extremis. Looks like a man in a practical armor to protect him
This is the Iron Man that finally had me retire the Mk 43 that was on the shelf for years. I loved the comics taking a back-to-basics approach with no fancy-schmancy hololight stuff or whatever, and was amazed an ML went contemporary instead of throwing out nostalgia bait.
I wish it looked more like Alex Ross's art with the eye holes and better paint. Also I think slender look while retaining the super hero build is the best looking iron man
I like the bulkier look for armoured characters. Makes it look like they're wearing a protective suit. This figure could do with more range of movement, smaller eye slits and a dark wash in the panel seams. Xcorpeo shaded the panel lines and made it look way better. His overall proportions look good. I wish the white discs had a blue glow at the edges, like the new Havok's chest symbol.
It needs to look like the image to out some black wash on it and a metallic red and a blue hue on the repulsors to give that glow effect but other than that the gold is fine
Man it's always one step forward two steps back. I was so glad when I first saw this video that they don't have that giant hinge for the torso, but now they got this thing with the head and the shoulders
I can't wait for an actual BUDGET being spent on this iteration of Tony's suit. Some gloss/metallic texture would NOT be that hard to attempt, eh Hasbro! At least it has the 'V' shape on the torso. I prefer a sleak Iron Man suit myself. It implies hi-tech which is THE POINT, right?
I loved the Marvel Iron Man 51 look: the supersleek mouthless suit that he uses in Civil war 2, which Doctor Doom slightly revamps in infamous Iron Man. It had this Ferrari sports car vibe. I know the figure has its flaws, but it just works for me. It also came with the best Tony stark head sculpt as well. I might pick up this one too though, it's been ages since I got a new ML, this one seems passable. Great review as always!
so yesterday I was thinking "why haven't I gotten a notification for my anthonyscustoms review yet" then I remembered it was Wednesday and I was sad but then I also remembered it was garbage day and I would have forgotten otherwise so thank you Anthony for helping me finish my chores
I have this one on pre-order. I appreciate this review this review for the info. I'm still getting it to represent the 90's Captain America and the Avengers arcade game but, in a cooler, more detailed look than what appeared there. I'll just put him in some basic simple pose then. Got a classic comic Captain America and comic white Vision earlier this year. Waiting on the classic comic purple Hawkeye from the arcade game to reappear in Legends, now.
7:34 it looks like he has his eye showing through the mask, looked crazy at first!! Awesome review, I like that it’s Alex Ross inspired but I’m not interested in it cause of exactly what you said, very McDonald’s looking
When have we ever gotta a regular none MCU Iron Man with a wash? We've gotten lower legs that didn't line up with the feet, biceps that were on the wrong side. What if the shoulders were painted instead of the armor plate, would you be okay with that or would that look too weird?
Like some others who have posted - I am a Shellhead fan - but c'mon the ML Brand manager must have known the 20th just came out. So an IM product every 2-3 months? At these prices? I feel sorry for Alex Ross having to see his beautiful artwork warming the pegs. So for the product itself - I love the suit - but it is not good enough supplant the 80th or the DST MS Silver Centurion in my collection. What I would love to see ML try to make would be the Golden Bucket version from Avengers #1. They couldn't screw that up could they?
Personally, I like the aesthetic of a sleek Ironman suit with bulky accents like the chest, pauldrons, gauntlets, boots, etc.. Basically, slimmer for high-mobility areas and support for low mobility areas. With that said, I give the silhouette of this guy a pass sense, while he doesn’t have superhero proportions, it at least looks like it could suitably fit an adult human in there. My big issues with this guy are the lack of panel lining for the segmented areas, the lack of color in repulsers, and how blocky the eyes are. I understand and respect your stance that it should have more paint, but as an outdoor figure photographer in Phx, I prefer figures with a bit less paint since it reduces the rub during transportation. Molded plastic if fine though washes or panel lining is preferable to bring out details without risking paint wear as much.
I’d say I enjoy a good slim fit Iron Man a lot, but also can go for heft any day too. Really I like suits where their design is based on their purpose, why does that specific iron man suit exist what does it do better than the others that Tony would pick that one for a fight. Also design aesthetic being thought out with the colors so probably a wash would of made these details on this figure mesh better & when all the reactors on the suit are the point maybe a nice lil extra blue streak or two on them for a shimmer or reflective look would of made this figure pop enough to justify its price increase.
The swirly’s fit right around the blast effect. That way the smoke looks like it’s coming from behind the blast effect. I hope I’m not the only one telling you this…LOL
I'm usually not as upset at lack of paint as you, but with this figure, it really lets it down. The run by Christopher Cantwell where this suit debuted is what got me to reading Iron Man comics properly, and even though Alex Ross isn't an artist on the series, his style is one that REQUIRES paint. Paint is literally what he is known for. Even other artists give the armour a noticeable shine, so seeing it so flat like this turns me off it. I'll hopefully be able to paint it myself, but I really shouldn't have to.
My favorite armor is the one from Avengers EMH, which is modeled after the Mk IV and VI from Iron Man 2, and that's kind of in-between sleek and bulky.
Hey I wanted to ask something. I have a green spd power ranger figure from the lighting collection and I wanted to give the hips more movement. Going forward the leg hits the hip and going to the side it doesn’t go all the way. I wanted to know how to fix this. Do I shave off a bit from the hips or the legs? Or is it something to do with the joint itself?
I have seen people painting and washing this figure and makes the figure pop out, but at the price point of ml its doesnt make sense to make it non paint
Well i bought this... the repulsor hands are ... they look small... the smoke and blast effect is ok... All over i like this figure but the Modular Iron Man armor is the best.
I love Iron Man and I collect a lot of his figures but I shied away from the Marvel Legends lately due to the lack of inspiration from the actual comics for me they're just so Bland it's something I would buy for my boys to play with not to collect
This figure is a huge letdown for me especially after we got the amazing modular armor. The weird proportions of this figure is a clear eyesore for me, like the eyes on the face sculpt and the thicc thighs... Why gave him a thicc thighs he ain't no Chun-li, he can't do lightning kicks like her. I'm glad I didn't pick this one up but don't get me wrong, I like model 70 armor, it's like a throwback to the classic armor but unfortunately this figure does not do it justice.
I think this is the first time your edit doesn't do it for me. Like I don't dislike the look presented in your edit, but I'm also perfectly fine with the figure as it is, even under direct comparison. I understand you're trying to ever aim for the perfect proportions, but I hit my limit I guess lol.
If they used the same paint as the 70th anniversary iron man this figure would look way better. I like the look of it in alex ross art but like you said it's bulky in the wrong places and the eyes don't look right.

Your photoshopped figure on point as usual. Wish that was the figure. I wonder if the hasbro designers know the anatomy flaws that you point out.
I'm gonna go out on a whim and say this.
No.

I like the bulk on Iron Man. One of the reasons why I like the Ultimate Iron Man armor. Sadly the Marvel Legends one hasn’t been remade in a while.
I love the bulkier look- think it makes it more realistic. The classic suit is way too thin to make any sense as a suit of armor
Man it's always one step forward two steps back. I was so glad when I first saw this video that they don't have that giant hinge for the torso, but now they got this thing with the head and the shoulders

The 80th year and Modular ones have been pretty good in the Gold paint regard honestly, proportions too

Im a fan of a sleek iron man but not thin, i like him being around the same size as other hero’s
I keep envisioning Anthony doing an action figure version of the speech from the end of Falcon and the Winter Soldier. "Do better, Hasbro."
Brilliant review.
Hulkbuster mega bulk is my favorite.
I do like the bulkiness because it makes Iron Man look like man with an armor suit on. I even like the color because it still gives it a classic look.
7:34 it looks like he has his eye showing through the mask, looked crazy at first!! Awesome review, I like that it’s Alex Ross inspired but I’m not interested in it cause of exactly what you said, very McDonald’s looking
So like does this have eyes ubder the visor or is that just a weird reflection?
its only on the one side so i think it was just a reflection.
Yuh I’ll just stick with my Modular Iron Man

The swirly’s fit right around the blast effect. That way the smoke looks like it’s coming from behind the blast effect. I hope I’m not the only one telling you this…LOL
You should tell hasbro. They don't show them that way and they also don't really fit that way. They're loose and hang down.
Really want the model 24 armor he wore in the 2000s as a marvel legend
I paid $8 for this figure… that’s about what it’s worth 😅
I'm gonna need this for my Hall of Armors...when it hits clearance of course.
Sleek Ironman for me. Bulky Warmachine.
I think you're great and I love watching these reviews. I think you might have been having a little bit of a bad day.
Not at all. Marvel Legends cost $26 dollars now.
Hey Anthony do you plan making more mcu reviews?
maybe iron man based ones.
I would love to know your opinion on the retro carded Hercules🙏
I definitely like to figure even if it's not perfect. Shading would be great though.
Iron Man armor made by Fisher Price or Playskool, it looks like that
Just got this cool fig for $6 at Ross 😎 worth it at that price 💯
I wonder how good this figure would look with a bit of Gundam panel lining
Hi! This video show the figure panel lined: th-cam.com/video/wj-L9PV8iRM/w-d-xo.html

I bought this Iron Man figure. I bought him loose at my local collectibles store. I think he’s a little chunky and the shoulders are really weird.

Why does the into have the sound effect of the puffer fish eating a carrot lmao 😂
Happy to see the head is on a ball-hinge because Hasbro's double ball joints suck.

big chungus
I like bulky iron man like war machine or mark XXV
I prefer a sleeker look for Iron Man (like the Extremis or Modular Armor) from the comics.
The bulkier designs fit War Machine better.
That has to be one of the nastiest iron man suit designs I’ve seen in a very long time
I'll say this for it, it looks like a great figure of a SDCC cosplay costume.
I love Iron Man and I collect a lot of his figures but I shied away from the Marvel Legends lately due to the lack of inspiration from the actual comics for me they're just so Bland it's something I would buy for my boys to play with not to collect
Worth at 50% discount at least, so the other half of the money goes to some paint on it.
more money saved
i can’t believe i wasted a happy meal on this toy
Bulky iron man for me.

Yep
I kinda don’t get these proportions complaints because it’s a guy a normal guy in a chunky suit of armor

is "nublets" a technical term!? lol
yes
Sleeker
I think this should be called Ironic Man or Plastic Man. I guess the money went into the sculpt. Hasbro half assing again. So buy at $12.
Is it me or are they going more and more less paint and more molded plastic it looks cheap
If they used the same paint as the 70th anniversary iron man this figure would look way better. I like the look of it in alex ross art but like you said it's bulky in the wrong places and the eyes don't look right.

That's not how averages work unless you want figures to be rated at 1-5 more regularly... But most are rated 5-9. So the average is 7.
Hasbro marvel Legends these days are so disappointing.
