I bought a Brother 8260 a number of months ago and when I received it, I came across this video. I really liked it, so bought 4 toners (with reset wheels and springs) ready for when I get the Replace Toner message. Well, today was the day!! I rewatched the video to remind me of all the steps, and followed them to the 'T". Lo and behold, the printer is printing again, and I did not put any toner in.... just placed the reset wheels on the two cartridges that ran out at the same time. How convenient. Thank you so much for the video, products and instructions. Really really impressed. Best video on You Tube!!
Thank you to the moon and back and again. I learned something new. I've always had inkjet printers. I got tired of going through ink just printing utility bill confirmations. Now I just save a pdf of those, but still print misc stuff and shipping labels. I picked up a monochrome Brother many years and had a couple of hiccups in the beginning with connectivity, but it's been flawless ever since (knock on wood). I'm on my 2nd faulty inkjet in probably 10yrs I guess. Good run, but I'm tired of inkjet and the cost. I'm not 100% certain, but I keep reading that Brother has changed some control and won't allow resetting of the toner through a secret menu to reset a half used toner to use the rest. They want you to pay full price and only use half of it. Recycle it and they (or someone) gets half free toners. I've been back and forth with buying Brother or another brand. I've had all the major brand printers and Brother has been the best to me so far. Canon being the worst, with HP and Lexmark in the middle. All frustrating. Thanks again. You are a God send.
@U Refill Toner Thanks for the nice and helpful video on toner refilling, but I am a little confused about your suggestion of struggling with the "Reset Gear" for model HL-L8360 and HL-L8260 as in these two models you just can refill the toner powder and go the printer LCD menu screen and simply reset the toner count right from there within 5 seconds regardless of "Reset Gear" position or even the existence, so why do you bother "Gear reset" process?? one can do this simply by 1/ Open the front cover of the printer (like we open to access the toners). 2/ With the cover open, first simultaneously press the and buttons. and then quickly hit the button. 3/ The reset menu will now appear on the LCD display. 4/ Scroll through the menu to select a color and yield to reset (one can reset any toner color to any page yield as required). The LCD will read "Accepted" once the reset is complete. Your comments will be appreciated!
Because that has been shown not to work for all models in all situations. For example, it did not work on our own printer. Whereas the wheels will work for every model, every firmware and every situation. As a company offering a reliable solution, that's what we favour
reset wheel thing just confused me, do you put it on and then put it in the printer then take it out and then move it? If so should you check for one before installing any toner?
>> do you put it on and then put it in the printer then take it out and then move it? No. The machine moves it. You just have to get it on in the "loaded" position. Or, if the cartridge in question already has a reset wheel on, turn it back to the "loaded" position >> should you check for one before installing any toner? The only thing to check for before putting more toner in is: that the cartridge is truly empty. That is best achieved by weighing the cartridge. A truly empty cartridge with a reset wheel installed weighs 400g. You can also get a handle on which cartridge might be empty by printing the fade out swatch www.urefilltoner.co.uk/downloads/toner-refill-fade-out-swatch.pdf But the weight method is much more reliable The black starter kit in the following link has full instructions as well urefilltoner.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?manufacturer=Brother&productCode=BRL82sixtyKITB&description=Black+starter+kit&engine=BRL8260&printer=HL-L8260cdw%2c+HL-L8360cdw&id=2943&weight=160
Not as far as refilling goes. Waste is collected by the WT320CL waste collector box. It is independent of whether or not you refill toner cartridges or use new toner cartridges
Thanks for all the effort you put into this video, it's very helpful and much appreciated. Can I ask .... if you know you've got a big printing event coming up and don't want it to be interrupted, is it OK to empty all the old toner out first and then refill? Similarly, on a second refill with the same toner from the same supplier (i.e. Urefill) wold it be OK to refill a little earlier?
On the first: how will you empty it? Can it be cleaned up again without affecting anything else? On the second: toner is under agitation. As time goes on there's a higher percentage of misshapen particles and under-sized particles known as fines. Substantial quantities of that profile don't mix well with fresh toner. Also, our suppliers - as with anyone else's - may change over time, so the the idea of "same supplier" is an ilusion
what would be the cause of toner leaking out of the cartridge? It ends up as random stops on my pages. I purchased some refilled toner cartridges here in the US and the cartridges all leak toner over time. I have to occasionally take each out and blow down the roller edge to get any loose toner out. Would love to hear any suggestions. Great video!
If you're sure the problem is toner getting out where it shouldn't, I would imagine that's from the metal doctor blade which is supposed to meter out a smooth layer of toner on to the developer roller. Assuming the people who refilled the cartridges did not adjust the gapping of the doctor, then I'd say the formulation of the toner isn't quite right. It should "stick" enough to the developer roller, which is achieved by electrostatic effects which are quite exacting.
U Refill Toner pretty- not sure but it seems to come out one end. I have to physically remove the cartridge and blow out the excess toner in the trash can. Was thinking the toner would be the next possible cause. Thanks, again funny video
Excellent! I have installed my first wheel (cyan) because the printer refused to print. Could I install the other wheels even the printer stil prints (black, yellow and magenta are low)?
Great video and kit purchased. Out of interest what actually happens if you try and fill the cartridge before the prints fade. Does it actually bust anything?
Thanks for your support. Different batches of toner don't like mixing: well known issue within the industry. If you refill on top of residual, you'll probably get background tints over the entire page and blobs of toner dropping off the dev roller due to incorrect static electrical charges to hold it on. None of which will ever befall you, will it? Cos' you're going to do it right, aren't you ?
Do you have a video for replacing TN-431/TN-433. I have an issue where my Cyan indicating replace, but it full with a restart wheel (which appears to be in the right position).

@@urefilltonerUK Thanks. I'm actually just looking for any colour laser printer that can be refilled. Just going over listings on eBay and that one was close. I will try to find the models listed in the description.
Because the reset wheels are integral to the design of the printer and the original cartridges. It would be very difficult for Brother to change either
Hi. I got a question...on laser printers with chips, like cs410, is the reset chip able to be used indefinitely or is a new reset chip required each time you refill ?
Hi, I have a Brother HL2320D laser printer with duplex. Do you advise me using the duplex? I print around 700 A4 pages per month, so far I am using to manually feed the pages in the loading tray for verso printing. I'm afraid continous use of duplex might damage the duplex mechanism. thanks for your advice
I installed a new set of Original Brother TN-421 toners several years ago and have gone through the process of resetting the wheel already 2 times of my color ones. On the brother website it is stated that TN-421C will allow 1800 pages while Brother TN-423C allow 4000 pages. Given that ink is still present after 2 resets of the TN-421C, is it safe to assume that TN-421C and TN-423C actually contains the same amount of ink (although pricing is different)? @urefilltonerUK
In my opinion, we would need data on the weights of the 421 and 423 before use and then, when known to be completely empty. Further, it wouldn't make much sense for Brother to 4K's worth of toner into cartridges that are only guaranteed for 1.8K. They'd be wasting their own money.
If the spring and wheel are in the right position, I can't see why it would not turn. There's nothing to stop it. Check the video here th-cam.com/video/RhD7TI-esEk/w-d-xo.htmlm55s
