i don't know if some of the points below were intentional or not, but for what it's worth, i really appreciate the thoughtfulness colour palette that you picked. spoilers ahead! i feel like in the book, Circe's family, her father and siblings, are often associated with light, bright and warm tones. This is not necessarily because of their character, but more so their heritage and the way that Miller portrays them. When visualizing these characters, you often picture hues of reds, yellows, and oranges-the aureate radiance of Pasiphaë's hair being like the sun on water, or the searing almost-white yellow of Helios's aura. Yet, their actual personalities are so far from the kindness and warmth these colours typically connote. They are cold, calculating, and relentlessly cruel. However, from birth, Circe has always been different from the rest of her family. Yes, though she is still the daughter of Helios and was mentioned to have inherited *some* of his qualities, they were always LESS THAN. Her hair is tainted by streaks of brown, her eyes are an "owlish" yellow (in the words of her sibling's tauntings) and her skin not quite bronze enough. You do not associate the same golden, sun-kissed features with Circe as strongly as you would the rest of her family. Yet, unlike her family and all their literal incandescence, she is not as ruthless and sadistic as them. (Although to be fair, she does indeed have her fair share of cruelties) Even from the very start with Prometheus, you see a gentle kindness in Circe’s actions and an inclination to alleviate the Titan's sufferings. When Hermes tells her tales of the violent deaths of sailors at the hand of Scylla, she shows a strong longing to right her wrongs, ultimately taking the risk to defeat Scylla herself. In my opinion, the brazen juxtaposition between the cool blue-purple tones you picked and the intense colours of her family beautifully illustrates exactly how she is many things her family is not. And I think it is very symbolic that her differences between her and her family are what eventually allowed her to find resolution in her tragedy- her contempt of divinity that her family (from those of Titan blood to the nymphs and naiads) so vehemently treasured. Sorry for the long read. i just really enjoyed the book and wanted to show appreciation for the effort that has been put into both the beautifully put together video and stunning illustration. (:
I absolutely love your interpretation! The blues & indigos were a purely intuitive choice, but what's interesting to me is that I never even thought to associate Circe with gold until I saw other artistic depictions of her. To me, she was always a shadow of her father and siblings, but also (as you've eloquently put it), many things her family is not. While this is not nearly as deep, I've also realized how closely the blues make the forest simultaneously feel like an ocean, and how the diagonal lines feel like tides hitting the shore. Thanks for taking the time to leave this in-depth comment; I'm really glad the design was able to encourage interpretations beyond what I intended 💛
I think she did a great deal for the cover. The process here is to think more on the audience, who would most need the book (1:15). Therefore the purple tones justify for that, as well as the emptiness/ spaciousness/ minimalism feel to it. To draw up the book again with details from the story would be only to focus on the story, which has been done for centuries in the printing industry. But once in a while, it's cool to see book covers that interact. Especially the purple tone is kind of the color of intuition/ sadness/ loneliness. If you see it under commercial eyes, it would appear to be like a notebook cover rather than a story unfold. But under a more conceptual perspective, it's on point.
i first came across your channel from the Character Design process of The Song of Achilles, but i stayed on because your videos are such a beautiful blend of animation, illustration, design and storytelling through editing and film. Your content is such a visual treat and such an inspiration for me who's picking up different art/design disciplines. Thank you for the valuable content you make!!
I love how not only did you draw the book cover, you even did a 3D mock up! Your reasoning for the design choices was cool to follow along to and really brought more meaning to the already amazing finished product!
I would definitely pick this edition up if I saw it in a bookshop. I think you really captured the sense of stillness or being stuck whilst acknowledging the peace and the growth she experiences when she finds her power. Really beautiful.
I rewatch your videos over and over whenever I'm feeling uninspired. Each time, I notice something new. This time I realised one of the reasons I love the way you present things is the homemade videos and images you put to support your main contents. Makes the video feel more personal and tender, but it's perfectly balanced with the use of other people's art so that it doesn't feel too much like a vlog. I love your art so much.
I just finished my first year in illustration and this is such of perfect example of a) what my profs encourage us to think about in design, and b) the level of thoughtfulness and craft I strive for when I create! Thank you so much for sharing your process :)
The amount of thought you put into your work never fails to amaze me! I love Circe and your redesign beautifully captures the essence of the novel! Thank you for such a lovely video💙🤍
The editing, the drawings, the thought process... Let’s just say I’m in complete awe of your talent once again. Honestly, thank you so much for sharing. This is inspirational and one can definitely see the hard work, dedication and love you put into these pieces of art. Bravo!
This is amazing. Thank you for letting us inside your beautiful mind and all that creative thoughts! Thank you for introducing us to this wonderful novel. There's nothing more pleasant than the birth and actualization of a great design! Your interpretation is so inspiring!
Such a stunning cover design. This book also really resonated with me too so I appreciate your dive into the way it was written and Circe as a character. You do the book and the author an honour.
TH-cam’s really peaking with your content, it’s a privilege to be privy to this. If this were the 90’s I’d want the VCR collection of this channel, ugh.
You've officially inspired me into getting back into art! The way you explain things is incredible, and your art even more so! Your cinematography and editing is amazing as well. Amazing video!
hiii! just wanted to say I love the thought process, the art, literally everything! it gives me an insight to what artists think and aim for when drawing, and the end result is beautiful
As someone who has done multiple practice book covers, I adore how you described the process of creating this, and I wish I had seen this while working on my most recent practice cover. Absolutely gorgeous, I would definitely pick up this book at the store!
I love SOA and Circe so much, I’ve been dying to do my own work based on the books since seeing your video, and renditions by Julie Dillon and Delaney Januzzi. You’re amazing ♥️
I love how the cover turned out and I love how the video weaves into the artwork itself... your choices are so good and make for such good end products. I really want to learn how to design like you- with intention and flair.
With all these lockdowns I've been feeling quite disconnected from my graphic design studies, this was such an inspiring video. Your process and art are just lovely thank you so much for sharing this with us!
i’m sorry to hear you feel that way, and i totally get you. i’m glad this video could be of use - all the best with your studies, and i hope you’ll make things that make you happy!
I loved this! I love watching a artist showing their process, especially this one, as you showed us how you grasped the meaning and honestly illustrated a really nice design onto a book cover.
If I saw this book cover in a store/library I would immediately want to buy it, not even knowing the content. You just Get It from looking at it. I love how you explained your process in this video, very clear and calming!
I rewatch your videos as I await the next time you'll grace us with incredibly narrated content. Love you!!! You are so talented and I learn so much from you !!!
I want to cry when looking at your work oml, it's just mind boggling just HOW MUCH thought you put into this god. don't get me started on the editing and the little circes, and how you thoroughly read and understood the source material but also looked outside to other designs/ designers. my god even taking into consideration that we interact with the cover asdjnaksd, you inspire me to really think about what I make
your videos are so aesthetically pleasing, and I love how literature, history, mythology etc are presented retold/ reimagined through your animations and illustrations
I'm in love w your redesign of the cover! I've read Circe in the middle of this year and I haven't stopped thinking about it since. I appreciate your thought process on the design and I feel it does resonate with who Circe was and her whole story. Aaaaaa I really love this!!!
I love your development process so much, especially when you reference insights you’ve learnt from other people and how you integrate those back into your work
this is absolutely gorgeous. the photos taken then edited to have an animated figure, the amount of information and research put into this video, the ART and beauty of the entire thing ... this is so brilliant. i want that cover and im going to get this book !! stunning work!
I just wanted to say thank you for the recommendation. Circe is one of the most beautiful stories I've ever read, and halfway through it became one of the hardest stories I've ever had to read. You are appreciated.
I read this book years ago it still is in my top 3. There isn’t much action but Miller’s writing of Circe’s reflection and internal commentary is what made me love it so much. Thank you for this beautiful, unique and personal cover ❤
Seriously one of my favorite ways to relax after a long day is to watch one of your design videos! They're so insightful and artfully edited that it's a treat to watch. I don't typically enjoy rewatching the same video over and over, but I always find myself coming back to yours! It's just the right amount of soothing and inspiring, and makes me want to pick up my tablet haha In fact let me go do that right now!
Oh wow. TH-cam algorithm just served me up a real gem! I finished the audio book for _Circe_ back in April, and it was absolutely stunning. The quiet solitude and space within the novel...mm! Perfect, especially given everything from this past year. This was beautiful, too. I love all the thought and care you put into your design. It really suits the book. Thank you for sharing (and subscribed!) 💜
Every video you create is always such a joy to watch. As a young aspiring artist it's really insightful to see your thought process and how your love for the media influences the shapes and forms that come with creating a finished piece. Thank you!
Man i just wanna say, I love your channel so much. It’s a safe place for me and it’s so insightful. Honestly it’s crazy this kind of quality comes from a student. I wish you luck on your journey!
i always admire how thorough you are in your research, it's so clear in these videos how invested and passionate you are. your work is always so intricate and beautiful. despite the fact that greek mythology has never been my cup of tea, you make me wanna start reading haha. i loved this process especially!
on my fourth rewatch! i'm so in love with your videos and art. read the song of achilles and circe because of your videos and thoroughly enjoyed them both. thank you
Another absolutely lovely video, I swear you keep being an enormous inspiration to me... I haven't read the book yet, but listening to you talk about it so sincerely and honestly really makes me want to pick it up at my local bookstore... now if only I could buy a version with this cover :|
Im absolutely in love with this cover. This could easily be a collector's edition. Honestly this video is lowkey making me want to pursure book designing as a career
This is IT. I love it, No matter how long it takes you to upload that´s pure artistry and I will always wait and admire with joy your thought process. Thank you
i love the way you explain your thought process so much. It’s truly admirable. I can understand everything and, for once, I don’t feel like I’ve gotten lost in a soup of words.
Your content is some of the best I’ve come across probably ever. I love your style and process and the way you deep dive into what you’re illustrating and the thoughts, feelings and meanings behind it. You also have a gorgeous voice. Can’t wait to watch more of your videos, you are incredible.
A lot of people's art is incredible, and I'm inspired by a lot of them. But the way you edit your videos, the footage you use, the way you narrate your journey is just unparalleled. Great stuff.
I am absolutely in awe of how well and thoroughly you research and compile reference from so many different sources, even when they are not all art related. I am trying to build a similar kind of patience and thoughtfulness with my art!
oh my goodness…. I’m so attracted to the thought process and the attention to detail as you not only dissect but leave room for the readers to think more into metaphors, even their own imagination. I have so much respect for the time, effort and research you’ve put into this, you are the artist I aspire to become but again it will be in my own way at my own time. I just love watching your videos, I’ve become obsessed thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and amazing creations. Your art resonates with me
I am in love with this! I loved the way you create and narrate when I watched the song of Achilles video so I expected the same professional artwork but this is even better. Your videos and art are such great inspirational and original works! So well thought and detailed without being overwhelming. Such balance!
I really love the way you integrate essence of story and metaphors into your art. This is such a unique video, I haven’t seen anyone do smth like this yet!! Also I really like your editing style 💕 oh and I think it’d be interesting if you did this with some Hindu mythology? I want to see how you would design some creatures and characters.
I already have the spanish edition (same as the us, design wise) of this book, but I would gladly purchase the book with your cover. It's amazing and I feel that it represents very well the book and how Circe is depicted by Miller. Love it.
The way you articulate your process through your narration and cinematography is always so inspiring and compels me to expand and appreciate my own art process more. Thank you
THIS!!!!! ITS AMAZINGLY WELL RESEARCHED AND WONDERFULLY PUT TOGETHER. I LOVE THE EFFORT AND LOVE U PUT IN TO COMMUNICATING TO THE AUDIENCE THE FEELING OF CIRCE AND THE PROCESS OF UR DESIGN. EVERYTHING IS JUST... SO GOOD!!!
literally every single second of this video is sooo satisfying to watch. your thought process, the little animations here and there, the shots you use, everyting. Also when you revealed the entire 3d mockup of the book, the way the colors fade at the back and your explanation to it, my jaw dropped. it made perfect sense and i admit i felt like i just had an epiphany. great work!! 🤩💯
I would literally snatch your version of the Book as soon as I saw it. I would grab it and never let it go. I would put it on my desk so it's the first thing I see when I wake up. It's pure enchantment.
I find your videos so inspirational, calming, educational and overall just lovely to watch! Thank you for letting us in on your process and creativity!!
This just makes me so much happy. this is genuinely what art is to me. The thought behind it, the explanation, the execution..ahhh ..what an absolute treat. So inspiring
The way you edit, narrate and illustrate is just at the highest quality I don't often find. It's amazing that I found you and I look forward to seeing other videos from you!
I first saw this video last year and despite not having read the book, I was already completely struck by your art & the fluidity, clarity and poetry of your process, but now that I've read Circe, oh my god... it hits even harder! You beautifully captured the essence of this story
I just discovered your channel and I’m in awe of the quality of your work! You seem to be sooo good at so many different aspects of art making: illustration, animation, typography, video-making! Truly an inspiration!
I think this is perhaps one of the most amazing videos I have ever seen-aesthetic, pleasing visually and auditorily, informative, creative, attention keeping. I just am honestly stunned by how much I adore this . Your voice and your images are incredible . Thank you for creating something so wonderful < 3
Thank you for another great video. Your editing and visuals are superb as always, and I appreciate how well you articulate your process. Honestly whenever I feel uninspired or need help with something, I always turn to your videos just because you're so informative and creative. Also next time I order some books from Amazon, I'll definitely pick up Circe. The prose seems so beautiful.
Seriously so beautiful!! Your cover redesign would make me pick up the book in a heartbeat. It depicts such a sense of wonder and elegance, yet also strength and discovery.
your art is so strong yet delicate i cannot get enough. i will tell you that when you showed the jacket design on the little animation, that´s when i cried. it´s so toughtful and beautiful
thank you for giving us a glimpse behind your creative process. this is the kind of content i'm always elated to stumble upon. can't wait to start checking out your other content!
This video is a work of art and brilliance, and I adore you as an artist and as a guide on the path to poetry and appreciation. Thank you for the fantastic cover design, and the wonderful description of a book I never thought could be, and now is among my reading list. My comments here on TH-cam aren't usually so poetic, which is a good proof of how you are incredible 😅 Heres One more new subscriber for you!
Just want to say that I love every video you make! They are all so thought-provoking in so many different ways!! Thank you so much for sharing these beautiful process with us!
Your videos are entertaining in such a different way than I'm used to. Every shot adds to the atmosphere of the entire video: serene. It's so calming to listen yet what you say always sounds insightful. You clearly put in a lot of effort and did a lot of research. No second watching your videos seems lost.
i don't know if some of the points below were intentional or not, but for what it's worth, i really appreciate the thoughtfulness colour palette that you picked. spoilers ahead!
i feel like in the book, Circe's family, her father and siblings, are often associated with light, bright and warm tones.

To me, she was always a shadow of her father and siblings, but also (as you've eloquently put it), many things her family is not.

Honestly youtube doesn't get better than this.

thank you for the kind words

There's nothing possibly more philosophical and living as your art and designs. I think you really speak through your art its amazing
I am in love with this! I loved the way you create and narrate when I watched the song of Achilles video so I expected the same professional artwork but this is even better. Your videos and art are such great inspirational and original works! So well thought and detailed without being overwhelming. Such balance!
the dedication! the talent! the skill! man i'm speechless
Literally the most informative, well edited, and beautiful art videos on here
You didn't only make wonderful book cover art, you did a crazy good production! Thank you very much for this.
I already have the spanish edition (same as the us, design wise) of this book, but I would gladly purchase the book with your cover. It's amazing and I feel that it represents very well the book and how Circe is depicted by Miller. Love it.
woah 30 seconds in and I had to subscribe. your editing and color palette is toptier.
SO GOOD!!!
I could listen to you talk through your process every second of the day. This was sublime.
literally every single second of this video is sooo satisfying to watch. your thought process, the little animations here and there, the shots you use, everyting. Also when you revealed the entire 3d mockup of the book, the way the colors fade at the back and your explanation to it, my jaw dropped. it made perfect sense and i admit i felt like i just had an epiphany. great work!! 🤩💯
Every frame of this video is art.
I work as a cover artist and I never want it said that cover art isn’t real work
Your videos are some of the most beautifully crafted things I’ve ever seen!!
Truly an inspiration!
this artwork perfectly captures emotions and images that popped into my head while reading "kirke"!!! i'm amazed
I think this is perhaps one of the most amazing videos I have ever seen-aesthetic, pleasing visually and auditorily, informative, creative, attention keeping. I just am honestly stunned by how much I adore this . Your voice and your images are incredible . Thank you for creating something so wonderful < 3
Your editing is amazing. It feels so immersive and yet simplistic. And the art. It's just too good. I'm so happy I found your channel.
Man, you blew my mind away. This video essay is astonishing. Loved the cover design as much as the narration.

This video is a work of art and brilliance, and I adore you as an artist and as a guide on the path to poetry and appreciation. Thank you for the fantastic cover design, and the wonderful description of a book I never thought could be, and now is among my reading list.
My comments here on TH-cam aren't usually so poetic, which is a good proof of how you are incredible 😅

It's so calming to listen yet what you say always sounds insightful. You clearly put in a lot of effort and did a lot of research. No second watching your videos seems lost.
I absolutely love the 2nd cover, the colours are stunning and I would definitely pick this up in store (unlike the original cover).
