    Always remember him fronting up to Bakkies Botha in a test match. It was like boy against man, but it spoke volumes. Matured like good wine. Class player and remained at the top of his game for many years. Thank you Mr Lawes.

    Proud rugby mum! I listen to gbr every week, big C! Really agree rugby needs to be in more state schools, so much natural talent is probably lost because kids aren't being exposed to rugby and the beautiful game it is! Thanks for being an consistently awesome player for club and Country 🌹🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

    What a player, what a man. He's right, we need to stop apologising for what rugby is, the most widely practised team sport with legal physical combat, and celebrate it. That is where "rugby values" come from, so if you tone down the physicality, you water down those values.

    It’s a shame that this Bongi Curry incident has not been resolved satisfactorily as it is leaving a nasty taste in what has been a wonderful RWC.
    I am not taking a side, ultimately only those players will know what really happened or what they think happened. The way that now fans are now piling in for and against and the way the story is being reported isn’t going to produce any positive outcome for anyone.
    This should have been taken more seriously and handled better than WR appear to have done. WR appeared to have closed down investigations into the incident stating that there was a lack of evidence. As apparently Curry was not allowed to provide his evidence of the incident which as a key person involved has to cast doubt on the robustness of the initial investigation. I am not aware if Bongi was allowed to provide his side either.
    Ultimately it is an unsatisfactory outcome because although as I understand it the incident is not being investigated further due to lack of evidence , this doesn’t mean either player is ‘cleared’ either and it is likely to hang on both players .
    Aside from WR attempting to brush this incident out of sight as quickly as possible so as to avoid tarnishing the RWC, the most disappointing aspect of the whole incident for me is how this is being discussed and reacted to by fans. The level of abuse on twitter aimed at Curry is disgusting.
    Again, I’m not taking sides, but that’s not the point .
    Rightly or wrongly Curry complained to the match officials about what he heard, to not do so would have been to brush off what could have been a very serious situation at the highest level of Rugby , a game committed not to tolerate Racism of any kind in the sport .- rightly or wrongly it is hardly his fault it has been blown up as a narrative that he wasn’t forthcoming when probed after the match.
    Personally I want to believe this is a misunderstanding that has now gone viral There is no conspiracy here against Bongi and the Springboks, as some fans seem to believe. There was an incident, it was reported, an investigation was opened and an investigation was concluded. That is due process.
    Fans must let due process run its cause and refrain from getting hysterical and jumping to conclusions and launching vile attacks at either player.
    This current acceptance by rugby fans that it’s ok to launch to attack, abuse and threaten players hiding behind the anonymity of social media is exposing a nasty underbelly existing within the game.
    In the last year we have seen players, coaches and refs being abused and in some cases receiving threats of violence towards them and their families. No doubt by some fans who claim Rugby as a game which upholds it own set of unique values and standards over other sports such as football.
    When did we as rugby fans collectively fall so low ?
    Sorry for the long drawn out post but I just think this whole situation reflects badly on everyone.
    Don’t imagine that their is a victor or anyone coming out from this well, Curry, Bongi and especially the WR will be burdened by this for a long time

      I don't watch them anymore. But because I saw an article about Lawes defending Curry, I decided to watch that part. I think the "hate part" which they try to obscure (but it comes out anyway, like with their lack of any sympathy AT ALL for Bongi) is born out of a deep inferiority complex for England and NH national rugby teams.

    Wow! So not only did Bongi speak Afrikaans on the field, there have been other incidents where Springbok players spoke Afrikaans on the field too. I'm calling for a ban on speaking Afrikaans so that Tom Curry feels at ease that all the guys shouting "kant" aren't talking about him.
    And if Bongi really did call Tom Curry a white cunt multiple times, it's kinda crazy that of all the white people he's come across in his career, Tom Curry is the only one he's said it to - and he's said it to him TWICE

    So the English players never said anything to provoke the Hooker. He just started shouting racial slurs on impulse to Curry. We are not stupid. The only reason the English media made such a big deal about it was because they are salty and tried their best to derail the Boks for the final.

  • @johnjames6620
    @johnjames6620 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    You are stupid if you don't realize that there exists a great cultural divide between the UK and (in particular) rural black South Africans. I am a white English speaking South African who has lived his whole life in South Africa. I often do not understand rural black people when they speak English to me and this is because their pronunciation, emphasis, mannerisms and so forth are completely different to the way I speak. Now add to this stadium noise and players being out of breath and also players not specifically focusing on what the other person is saying.
    Also, why did not one else (NO ONE ELSE) hear what Bongi allegedly said? Was Bongi whispering to Tom?
    Re "there have also been other incidents": If indeed there are and they involved Bongi, you can rest assured that at least one of them would have been heard by a Springbok (who would have taken it up with team management), or alternatively, by an English player who would be able to corroborate Curry's assertion! But SO SURPRISINGLY none exist!
    Tom Curry has not been let down. The whole word has heard his allegation and there is NO evidence to support it. So, are you saying that if Tom Curry is falsely accused of rape and no evidence exists and the matter is then thrown out, that the woman (rather than Tom) is the one that is let down? I don't think so!

    • @Wolf-hh4rv
      @Wolf-hh4rv ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Look they have a policy of speaking Afrikaans during a game. Bongi grew up in Bethlehem so Afrikaans is his second language. Bongi is capt when Siya leaves, so he will be calling plays with the word kant all the time. This is so stupid is futile trying to get the English to understand this.

    • @johnjames6620
      @johnjames6620 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Wolf-hh4rv I agree. The other troubling thing about these interviewers is that there is no journalistic curiosity as regard what Tom Curry's version is, which they largely accept as fact. For instance, Tom Curry stated that the slur happened while he was talking to Bongi. First question I would ask is how much of a conversation did they have and how come there was time for a conversation during a rugby game. I would then ask the details of the conversation and what each said. But this information is never inquired about. At the very least some other player could then confirm that they saw, if not heard, a conversation between Bongi and Tom. And of course, there is no sympathy from the interviewers for Bongi. Is it because he is black?

    • @somanytakennames
      @somanytakennames ปีที่แล้ว

      As an England fan, I do think Tom Curry should apologise.
      But I think he did make the accusation in good faith. He does not speak Afrikaans, there’s no reason for him to know it. Surely in the heat of the moment, with the amount of noise in the stadium, you can see how one could interpret what Bongi said the way Curry did?

    • @johnjames6620
      @johnjames6620 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@somanytakennames I think most South Africans accept that it is reasonable that Tom Curry's initial accusation was made in good faith. I think most also accept that stuff (fights and so on) happen on the field in the heat of the moment and that they should then largely be left on the field after the game. What I take issue with is (a) The statement from the RFU stating as a matter of fact that Bongi made a racial slur against Tom and also (b) Tom's recent statement where he doubled down on the accusation. Surely, the RFU and Tom should have some doubt as to whether he heard correctly. All they need say is that they accept that it's possible that he heard the Afrikaans version.

    • @JouNaai1448
      @JouNaai1448 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@somanytakennamescompletely agree with you and I'm South African. It's very very easy to take what Bongi said the wrong way, that being said the doubling and tripling down by England and their players is bullshit. South Africans are very vengeful people by nature. And this whole saga will not be forgotten by us and least of all the players. The next time South Africa and England play there is going to be alot of off the ball stuff and somebody is going to get hurt. I bet my house that this is not over for South Africans. So much so that Tom probably shouldn't play that game
