    ATTENTION: I made a mistake in the Haast's eagle section. It displays the wrong scientific name as the scientific name shown is for the Smoky jungle frog.
    I use it as template name for the lower third title, please ignore :)

    The fact that the Moa made it so "close" to our time makes it all the more sad that it is gone

      They well still alive until first European sailor stepped on New Zealand land based on various report of huge ostrich or emu like bird sightings, although it clearly critically endangered

      We can grow birds outside of eggs now, but they are usually weak, and often don't make it into adulthood. There aren't any good substitutes for egg shell and the internal membrane yet, so that's a problem. Also, we need to be able to take stem cells in order to bring an extinct species back to life, and since we don't have any stem cells of extinct species, we are still quite a good distance away from bringing extinct birds (or really any extinct species other than ones for which we have stem cells) back from extinction. Even in the case of mammoths, we don't have complete stem cells, so we're really quite a long way from bringing one back from extinction. We would be a lot better off if we would simply do everything in our power to try to keep more species from going extinct, but I doubt that we'll even do that. Many of these extinct species would not fare well at present because we have altered habitat and climate so extensively that they couldn't possibly be brought back from the dead. I'll bet that no extinct animals will be brought back and reintroduced in our lifetimes. Loser has to pay for the winners funeral. Any takers?

    The Haast's Eagle is "Hieraaetus moorei". "Leptodactylus" is a genus of New World frogs such as the White-lipped Frog (Leptodactylus fragilis) ranging from Texas down into Mexico. The scientific name you used belongs to the "Smoky Jungle Frog" which is in the family Leptodactylidae. Seriema is pronounced, "seh-ree-ay-ma"

    • @prasetyodwikuncorojati2434
      @prasetyodwikuncorojati2434 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Maybe it get such name since Maori's ancestor already losing their chicken when reaching New Zealand. And the moa was a good replacement for them and it was avian creature too like chicken

      Well "moa" word can have different meaning too depends on the region. In certain branch of Polynesian language like in certain place in Indonesia moa word means eel

    1) What is that ostrich looking bird @10:27?
    2) I know Passenger Pigeons are the most famous recently extinct North American bird next to the Ivory Billed Woodpecker, but I personally would have chosen the Carolina Parakeet. Their sudden disappearance is more of a mystery than what happened with others. They were also the most northern Parakeet as well as being a rare instance of a toxic bird (something they ate made them poisonous and ended up taking out tons of domestic cats).
    3) I recently heard that the Dodo went extinct indirectly due to humans. Apparently Rhesus monkeys got onto the island and eventually ate all the fruit on the island, the main sorce of food for the Dodo.

    There were some species of terror birds that only went extinct on the late pleistocene. Less than 20 - 10 000 years ago. A quick search in google can show it. Although It also says they were smaller species.

    One of the biggest wishes I have is that the people making these videos stop using statements such as "Haast's Eagle was the biggest eagle to have ever lived". The sad thing is is they are getting this information from the top scientists in the field. There is absolutely NO WAY to know this. We have one discovered a small percentage of the animals to have ever existed. Why is it so hard to say that it's the largest eagle to have ever been discovered?

    It's important to talk about who lead to many of these birds extinction was because of colonization and European colonizers. Destruction of the indigenous populations includes the animals and food eaten by those groups. Indigenous people weren't causing mass death of the species around them, it was people that came in without that knowledge and for the purpose expansion. Humans are not a monolith and the continuous belief that it's just "humans" and not specific people or groups that are complicit is dangerous and reactionary. Science is not free of bias, it is one with bias and the cultures you come from.
