Hi 👋🏾 I am Tswana Australian. Nothing exciting recently in Au, but we have had our moments. My introduction to Australian politics was the Rudd-Gillard-Abbott era. Now that was interesting 😂. I had just relocated for university, and I was like wth? Kept me on my toes.
Another reason why Masisi lost is his alleged ties to ZANU PF in Zimbabwe which tainted Botswanas reputation as a democracy. Secondly, his persecution and pursuit of Khama , who a sizeable number of Tswanas hold dear, left a sour taste. But nonetheless , him conceding the election results gratefully and accepting defeat is commendable more especially in Africa. Great video. Much love

This is one of the reasons why people turned against Masisi. He went on a sort of nationalization drive. We all know how that has worked in other resource rich developing countries. Batswana were not interested in his war with debeers that started after he had already tanked the economy. His mission to promote local food production by banning South African vegetables led to run away vegetable prices and shortages in the past few years. It was not working. He had nothing to offer the youth and middle class. And many of his policies were just ill thought and harmful to most Batswana. That's why BDP lost.
This is an important step for Botswana. The nation's commitment to political liberty will increase with a successful transfer of power between parties and individuals. It will also raise the requirements for politicians to listen to the people rather than taking their election for granted.
Congratulation Sir, Africa is seeing the light at last. Change is owed to our youth to rid ourselves of the old self enriching ways. ANC, out GNU in, Zanu PF MUST get out now and make space for the future. Change in Botswana is good, Change in Mozambique Must happen. Lookl at Zambia, Rwanda and and where there has been change, Its for the Good.
Well, it's less bad than it looks in terms of the MP numbers. BDP got 30% of all votes, they would be comfortably the second major party in any sort of a proportional system. But Botswana got a first past the post system with one MP per constitutency instead of any proportional system. So that country-wide range of like 25-35% in most constituntencies simply didn't cut it against the more mobilised opposition electorate it appears.

He has to watch his back like Ibrahim Traoré did. He had so much attempts on his life. I love Traore because he is a born leader and knows how to leard.
No he doesn't have to watch out for anything, if you knew Botswana you would know that that kind of mentality has no place in our society, a good example is that even during the reign of the outgoing president Masisi who had a bitter fued with his predecessor Khama, Masisi did not attempt to eliminate Khama. This is Botswana, you settle your score in court or at the polling station and the rest is business as usual
@@michaelmo267 idk about all that, Masisi had to watch his back during his tenure. He obviously surrounded himself with those loyal to him and dismissed Khama loyalists. During Khamas reign, a few notable figures were unalived and some fled to neighboring south africa, Kgosi Kgafela and D Kenosi
Interesting, yet rather shallow analysis in answering the "why?". Given what you say Masisi achieved, could it be that his populist approach, including the focus on empowering his people through ownership of resources(for example, re-negotiating on diamond shares and allowing elephant hunting), brought the wrath of international capital against him? Also, his africanist approach( for example, open borders with Namibia and Zimbabwe), might have costed him in the context of how Batswana generally dislike foreigners, more so Zimbabweans who are regarded, and rightly so to an extent, as political and economic refugees)? And certainly, people need to know what the beef with Khama was all about-with some sections indicating that Khama wanted to be a "puppet master" after "handpicking" Masisi. All the same, congratulations Botswana for demonstrating democratic maturity!
We don't dislike foreigners you are wrong the general population simply want Batswana to be prioritised in their country as is it has been in the past, the thing about modern afro centricity is that they want to "unite" in peaceful countries instead if fixing their own countries first then uniting, you cant be burdened by your neighbours who are unwilling to pull up their socks and be OK with it, Botswana's resources are finite therefore the citizens have the right to want to be the sole beneficiary of what our forefathers left us and nobody can shame us for that
I hope Namibia learns and votes out SWAPO, and that South Africa finally votes out the ANC next election (sad the ANC won this year). Wishing the best for South Africa and Namibia.
The people of Botswana must keep in mind that with great expectations comes even greater disappointments,58 years is a long time the tentacles of BDP will take longer to be removed from every system of government and by the time they do it will be another election period already. Take notes from Zambia.

My country my pride❤❤

hello
what's the link to this website showing the UDC's manifesto
If this was Zimbabwe, they'll be a very high death toll....

I want to watch more of dess historical videos a week time
Give us a full video on duma bokos history
Botswana's prosperity is based on its obedience. They can't manage to be free from the West which controls the economy . Its a pity
What is shocking? It is democracy.
Do you know the history of African leaders with power? He's one of a kind
@rethabilemofokeng7846 Those are dictatorship not democracy.
The BDP failed to diversify the economy for 58 years!
Meanwhile, Cyril Ramaphosa clings on to power here in South Africa.
You didn't vote enough
you r mad
The people of Botswana must keep in mind that with great expectations comes even greater disappointments,58 years is a long time the tentacles of BDP will take longer to be removed from every system of government and by the time they do it will be another election period already. Take notes from Zambia.
