@@spicesmuggler2452 That fact he just got hit like that, and is just kinda of non chanlant about it shaking the guy's hand, and appears to be in no pain, is what people find impressive, He may of hung up the gloves, but he did took that punch, impressively, showing no pain.
@@barneyrubble8255 yeah cause his body at the moment is full of adrenaline, endorphine and other pain relieving hormones as any other human would be. The real pain begins the next day.
I can’t believe Sage was able to get up after that, especially knowing what happened to the bones in his face.
There has been several times where guys had nasty injuries and they were acting mostly normal while the adrenaline was still flowing. But once the adrenaline wears off and reality sets in, they feel every bit of that damage.

It wasn’t any super technical strike by some genius striker that KOed him. It was a powerful punch with barely any set-up that made him pay for a bad habit. Yes it was a karate stance, but it only works well with distance
Whoever was managing Sage at that time should probably have been fired for letting this fight happen.

Setup was so beautiful, saw a weakness in sages guard, drove him to the ropes to close distance and waited for him to circle into his power hand to exploit said hole in sages guard. I sometimes wish id done kickboxing a little longer to go pro but god these elite level guys are so beautiful to watch... Layered and layered setups.

Distance management, Sage looked comfy in open where he would have ability to leverage karate stance, kicks/darts etc. Cosmo collapses the space and gets Sage against ropes/near corner. Takes advantage of Sage's low lead hand, single overhand was all that was needed.
take a world-class Kick BOxer with more MMA fights and put him in a boxing ring against a kid with no boxing ring experience... yeah distance management... I call it sabotage from whoever came up with this fight.

It doesnt work that way, brotha. MMA is a different sport. Look at Rodolpho Viera. He is a top level grappler and lost to mid-tier fighter (at UFC lvl ofc) via submisson. So Holzkien could lost to a grappler via KO easily in MMA fight. Its just an example.
Unfortunate progressions of fights for Sage. Hope to see a comeback from the kid. Lord willing.

Cosmo was a good guy about it. Proud of himself for a damn fine punch, but not showboating and made sure to talk to sage after and check on him. It's an unfortunate result for sage but I admire both men

I still don't understand why they matched him up with such a high level striker. Sage is a great fighter but his striking is obviously not at that level (most MMA fighters aren't). Seems to me like his best chance was to try to take Cosmo down to the floor and grapple.

The so called Falcon Punch is nothing more than a renamed punch from a very old Okinawan Kata called Anaku or Sparrow walks on Water.. It's very much a floating style which emphasizes body or Core power versus torsional Power. Very much a Dragon style which emphasizes Hsing I form...What Cosmo threw was nothing more than an overhand right that's it. That's all it was. This Falcon punch again borrowed from Anaku is identified by bringing your same side leg backwards as you throw the same side punch forward. It seems as though this movement cancels out the the power of the punch but if you understand Bunkai it explains exactly what is happening.

Cosmo literally bashed in sage's face with a single blow. It was a brutal blow and sage should not have fought in this weight category. Sage is a talented MMA fighter and hope he recovers from the injury

I met Sage at a gym in Sacramento. He was doing a meet and greet. He was a very nice guy.

@@brotherlylovely I think it was more to do with the footwork. The bladed karate stance is great for bouncing in the middle of the ring but terrible for circling out. He just went backwards in a straight line to the ropes and stayed there.
Northcutt is an absolute phenom in the karate world. Just goes to show what happens when you put karate up against pure kickboxing.

@@mariookamoto6456 Wonderboy is a legitimate kickboxer. He uses some karate but he’s not purely just a karate fighter. Northcutt on the other hand has a major background in karate and accomplished far more in karate than Wonderboy ever did.

Could already sort of tell the outcome when Northcutt was moving so erratically but honestly I didn't expect such an easy outclass and knockout.
All credit to Sage - he got up after that so quickly - pretty amazing really!
And went directly to the hospital to get his face reconstructed.

Never seen Sage fight before... still haven't seen Sage fight 🤣😬
His stats were pretty impressive though. Kickboxing stats are 15 for 15. MMA was even 11 or 12 over 16 with 5 KOs and 3 subs. This was his only KO against him but a lesson in rising weight classes and fighting vets. Tough gig. He since reduced his weight again but got Covid(?) if I heard right. Recovering but still on the roster. Worth checking out the compilations of him. Still promising if he healed well.
Maybe it would be better if you did before you mock someone. It is a witty comment though so no condemnation, just a general be nicer to everyone. The kid is very good.

I would also like to know what kind of fight himself and team Alpha Male were training for exactly? It's pretty obvious when fighting a seasoned high level kickboxer that their striking is gonna ferocious and on point. And all one has to do is watch back a few of Cosmo's previous fights to see that he is explosive with deadly striking capabilities so they should have encouraged young Sage who is still pretty green in the fight game, to not stand and trade with Cosmo like he was attempting since that's exactly what Cosmo was waiting for...he was waiting for Sage to make that movement forwards during the process of striking to land only to inadvertently land of the most perfectly timed and deadliest counter punch knockouts in combat sports history. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that was also the *very first punch thrown of the very first round!* One punch KO with the first punch is a pretty rare accomplishment in professional combat sports but they do happen on occasion. Conor ko'd out Jose Aldo in similar fashion just seconds after the clock started and everyone will remember Masvidal's flying knee that ko'd Askren and retired him.

Sage fluked and dropped a fight which was his to lose. Kickboxers have difficulty striking with small gloves where there is also a threat of the takedown (see Manhoef vs Lawler, Verhoeven’s debut, Saki vs Rountree).

You also say Cosmo has zero ground game He was coming into this fight with an MMA record of 7-1, the only loss one he avenged and has a purple belt in BJJ, which is the same color belt Sage has. Sage is not some great grappler who can just take down this guy at will, his background is striking where he was nowhere as experienced or accomplished as Cosmo. Sage and his team should have never accepted this fight period.

Against an experienced kickboxer like Cosmo Alexandre you gotta have good head movement, with a loose neck and waist so you can roll with shots too, becuase you're gonna get painted at least once or twice. I mean he's a multiple time world champion in muay thai and kickboxing, he knows how to consistently land a hurtful flush shot by now. Sage is pretty good for a young kid, but just doesn't have the time spent yet to have worked his defensive skills to the necessary level. What his manager was thinking I don't know, hope he heals up good

Pretty typical of karate style fighters to have their hands down that way (Wonderboy is a good example). Also you can't even find Northcutt's kickboxing record online so it's probably against nobodies or an amateur record. He was just way out of his depth with this one.
