I imported one to Australia a few yrs ago for personal use . It had a complete restoration before arriving here . The whole vehicke was bought back to almost concourse condition Everything Operates & runs brilliantly. Can sit here in 43°c heat with the AC on full in the front & back & the cars temp gauge doesn't rise above the quarter mark . It's a bloody great car

Thank you so much for uploading this video - I didn't know it existed.
As a P Reg Fairway Driver owner (not a cabbie just a private buyer of one of these classic vehicles for personal use) I am fascinated to see how much it changed under the skin from the original FX4 I had (also privately) in my youth!

Fascinating story. I got to ride in some Fairway taxis when I visited England a few years ago. I found it to be quite comfortable. The quality of the cab was *impeccable.* That's how it *should* be. Under *no* circumstances should one *ever* cut corners when *building* a car, *testing* a car, or *maintaining* a car. It's particularly important when it comes to safety. :)

Darwinion, the axle was specially prepared by GKN Salisbury for the two-wheel sequence. I drove it still in that condition and it did not want to turn into a parking space at the Holyhead Road works. The parking sequence was filmed in Queens Road Coventry on a Sunday. The two cars Russ parks between belonged to Marketing Director Peter Wildgoose (Rover 800) PR firm boss John Clarke's Jaguar.

Personally, I'd like to see them still on the streets of London. I recently asked the PCO how many are still left in London and the answer - currently just 12 with the final one due to leave London's streets in July 2013. I'm going to do my best to keep mine on the road - they're becoming an endangered species.
    Thank you again!

The best cab by far like the bit when he said we've listened to what the customers want if only that was the case today

If only our American taxis were this size. They're small enough to manoeuvre through traffic, but big enough for American passengers to ride in comfortably.

The best, most reliable Taxi ever made.....Then came emissions regulations, and it all went downhill....

Why not produce and sell in Canada? THERE were talks of it for Montréal.

That trick driving on two wheels... surely that's not possible on a standard Fairway? They have an open diff... which means as soon as that wheel leaves the ground it will spin. It cannot drive on the other wheel unless the car has a slipper installed. And no London cab ever had that as standard. So that's a bit of a con there!

Very nice video ... but even if it's a superbe and reliable vehicle, the quality for the body and plastic given on those FX4/fairway's are poor. It would be nice to see something very similar back on the London roads more than these modern things and those shity Vito Mercs
