For some reason, I had this video in my Watch Later queue yet never got to it til now! What a great interview and nice time in what has to be one of America's greatest coin shops. So much to love, aside from the Morgan dissing. lol I enjoy the in-traffic shots in Chicago that are so familiar to me, but most of all the store exterior shots along Clark and looking into the gallery windows! Brings back memories of one particularly wonderful trip to the store in, I think, late fall of 1967, when I purchased a now-vintage Johnson-Massey poured 3oz bar for $10, from the showcase just under where Russ' left hand rests.

On the other hand, I was so happy not to be the only person who secretly thought of Morgan's as boring. But I also think stacking is boring, so take it whats it worth. ❤❤❤

Harlan was my first visit when back in 98 I began collecting. Then I’d go to Marshall field coin store where they had a monthly auction. I still keep most of those coins. Good years.

I may get some shade for this, but I agree w/ these guys on the Morgan dollar. It may be one of the most popular coins in US numismatics, but there was a scheme devised by mining companies out west to lobby the US government to buy their silver, and the Morgan dollar is the product of that. Generally the coins were overproduced, relative to public demand; and nobody, at any time in history, has ever liked carrying large, heavy coins in their pouches or pockets, regardless of the value... but such coins do eventually make for impressive collector's pieces. Even though I've moved beyond collecting Morgan dollars (and US numismatics in general), I still have a GSA-issued 1883 CC Morgan dollar that I bought back in 2001 from a local dealer. It's nice for any collector to own at least one of those coins, especially if they were issued from the Carson City mint.
I definitely appreciated the honesty and authenticity from these guys. A few videos back, I purchased a couple of CC’s. I really enjoy those very much! Thanks for watching and sharing a thoughtful comment!

Really interesting insight into the Morgan Dollars. I knew about the bags sitting in vaults, but to see that at least some dealers aren’t very interested in them was eye opening. I have a type set started with the Morgans with the intent to collect one from every year, but won’t be chasing after anything of super high value.
I happen to really like them.

Wow, interesting background on the morgan’s. Doing research on collectibles before buying is very important. Always research the fundamentals. If mintage is high, but it’s still popular, question why that might be the case. Unjustified fomo created by other bagholders? Possible. What’s ultimately important is, are you happy holding it? If yes, then it matters less if the fundamentals are there to back it.
Collectibles are only collectibles if collectors say they are. They create the market.

Can't imagine a real numismatist not liking morgans considering 350 million were melted due to the Pittman Act, their mintages are probably about half of what's published.
We all have our preferences. We see thousands of Morgans a month. As a collector they just don't do anything for me.

I'm also not a big fan of the Morgan's. I like capped bust. Seated liberties are nice too. Just kinda hard to pick them up while stacking gold. Speaking of which, that's crazy. A 2.9 million dollar holed coin.

Only nine Libertads to go before completing the full album! I will be counting them down in due time. I got a new interest in trade dollars. But will stay focused on one goal at a time. Next is Kookaburras, I only got 10 but may need to pause to buy a reverse proof 1oz libertad perfect grade lol. That was a contradiction, wasn't it?

@@TtheSilverStacker check with Facebook groups look up everything libertads. They sell less than eBay. But be careful there are scammers always ask for referrals in group. I seen a 2006 there with a guy named Erik

whats up everybody watch out for Ebay they are charging tax on silver and gold and the shipping charges to. i have just caught this on a new auction i won about 5 days ago and i went back to see if they were charging me before and no just on the shipping charges and thats wrong to. i been calling Ebay for the last four days to get them to fix so i can pay for silver coins i have won but they want fix the problem. so i have reported them to the Texas comptroller to get them to fix and will try to let the stacking community know whats up. look at the invoice to see if they are charging tax before you pay. if so complain to ebay thanks
