MAGDEBURG: Death ride! Expert with surprising praise for secret services and security authorities
German counter-terrorism is once again under fire: despite three warnings from Saudi Arabia about the perpetrator Taleb A., these were apparently not taken seriously enough. Intelligence service expert Professor Shlomo Shpiro sees the cause in the structural weaknesses of the federal system: 35 different agencies, each with their own structure, make coordination considerably more difficult. Shpiro calls for a reform along the lines of the public broadcasters in order to make the security apparatus more efficient. Although the German police prevent many attacks, every single one is one too many. The Magdeburg case shows that there is an urgent need for reform - both in the intelligence services and in practical security on the ground.
