The most messed up part about these two is they probably would discover loopholes in the game that could potentially save most the other players, but for the sake of keeping their identities a secret, they would keep it to themselves.
I think L would help secretly and light would act like he wants to help but try to just save himself secretly

@@okuri9991 that's absolutely wrong. in L's own novel, there is a scene where he loses some people from his team while he was working in another case (bb case), and the book reads something like "L brutally rips out his hair and screams, when he realised that he can't save nobody". more compassion than light has ever had in the series.
If Misa were in the game with her Shinigami Eyes, she could simply see who's about to die and stick close to those who are destined to live longer.
Plus, she would know which teams to pick for tug of war for example.

I think the problem with Squid Game is, no matter how smart you are, alot of it just comes down to sheer luck. It doesn't matter how many potats chips Light crunches, if he doesn't get a good tug of war team he's done.
Knowing how smart he is, he would probably figure out what all the games are before even playing them
I mean, realistically, Light and L would get information beforehand from someone who has already played and survived
managing other people mitigates most of the luck aspects. Just look at the way the tug of war game was won in the show! The real question is if Light and L are charismatic enough to get enough people to do what they want. Light may actually have an edge over L at that, with his ability to manipulate others
L is legit probably one of the strongest people there, he could make due with an average team.

But once he is turned into a child, he is taken care by his GF's father, who takes the credit for his detective work.
Conan is also a fake name, so Light would not be able to kill the kid detective with it.

Answer: They'd never end up in the squid game, L and Light would probably game the banking system to become rich enough to join the managers of the games.

One criticism, Light would never admit to L that he's Kira, even if they were in a last man standing situation. The reason is that solving the Kira case matters more to L than his life (demonstrated by Near and Mello being his contingency plan). Conversely for Light, ensuring L loses was shown to be more important than anything aside from his own life. This is evidenced by Light's willingness to immediately sacrifice his morals to attempt killing L and his unwillingness to sacrifice a portion of his life for the Shinigami Eyes. Light would absolutely never choose to put himself in a last man standing situation with L only to announce that he's Kira, this would be like a double loss for him both risking his life unnecessarily and also giving L a fleeting victory for no gain.
That seems like a logical assessment
The only way I see Light revealing he's Kira is if he had just won the game, using it as a last rub in his face as L died.
Facts
Counter argument: it’s really cool to imagine that scene though. Light believing he’s already won only to get physically dismantled by L in seconds. Even if it’s a bit of a stretch, it would be a really cathartic way to end Light’s character. His own hubris and ego getting the better of him. Granted, Light never stood a chance against L but the build up to the fight of Light having everything seemingly planned out only to lose not due to wit or trickery but by simple fists is fitting irony.

Squid Games is something Light can EASILY win. Light is by far going to be smartest and most cunning in the room. He also has the physical build to compete with other men in physicality. Lets not forget Light's greatest of all skill. Social and psychological manipulation. Squid games is a perfect arena for Light. L will make it far, but his inability to be sociable like Light will be a hindrance. Light can easily mass and lead an entire army of other players, and kill them off later when he believes their usefulness is up.

L started with the advantages of practically infinite wealth and the network of every investigatory force on the planet. If L was not allowed sugar in the final meal, Light could tire him out mentally throughout the night and finally when the battle begins, he could fight for a while before dropping the news that he was The killer, and then get him out of the squid game ring while he is distracted for a split second... I feel like Ls sense of justice and morality might hinder him in the games. Early light might also be hindered by this, but Light later in the series has a very messed up sense of justice, so probably wouldnt hinder him much.

Going into this, L and Light are massively OP in terms of intelligence when compared to the characters of the squid game. Sort of feel like this is just a smart view generator of a video, and I respect the grind. Interested in what Seth will have to to say about it tho.
How creative, the effort and ingenuity that went into this is something else - quality presentation and theorizing! Hope we see many more like it, there are some awesome suggestions in the comments (like Ace Attorney, Detective Conan, etc) and my personal favorite would be to see how L and Light would take on a crossover with Naoki's 'Monster'
Maaaate you gotta now do a "What if Light and L were in Alice in Borderland" !!! Great stuff!
The interesting thing here is that the main character in Alice In Borderland is played by Kento Yamazaki, and he's the actor who played L in the 2015 Death Note Japanese TV drama, lol. Which is my favorite live-action adaptation of Death Note, btw.

I didnt know I wanted to see a video like this til I got the notification and Seth always makes theoretical scenarios like this really entertaining to listen to
So basically it comes down to Matsuda being as smart and skillful as the policeman in the TV series. I'd say that in that case, Light stays memory-less until the end, and agrees with L to stop the game there. They apprehend the VIPs and stop the operation of the death games, find the notebook and the plot proceeds as normal.
Even giddy with arrogance and the possibility of finally getting rid of L, Light would know that L has prepared multiple failsafes the second L suggests stopping the game. He wouldn't actually dirty his hands by killing someone he's competed against for so long with his own hands, he probably thinks it animalistic and not an actual win. He values intelligence more than physical strength.
Memory-less Light might even suggest forfeiting the game for L's sake if L doesn't suggest voting.
Yeah that was the part I didn't get. I feel like evil light would be smart enough and know L well enough to think that L would have the police/FBI watching them during the last couple rounds. He's extremely arrogant but he's not that stupid.
That realistic sense of genius they have is what makes it so awesome

3:33 this wouldn't make sense, because in Squid Game, one of the VIPS says something along the lines of "the games in Korea are the best", which insinuates that the Squid Games are a world-wide phenomenon. That they don't happen in Korea every year, but Korea's just one of the localities, like the olympics. This would also make sense because, since the police & Korean government don't seem to be involved, 100s of people disappearing in a short period of time every year would almost certainly be investigated & draw in undue media attention.
It just makes more sense that the games happen everywhere around the world, probably annually.

I love just putting death note on whenever I have nothing else to watch/play so I’m probably on my 15th viewing :) either you don’t have a problem or we all have a problem
As much as I love L, Light is better at concocting and successfully pulling off a scheme under stressful situations. He’d be far better at manipulating and sacrificing people for his own personal gain. And I know L is good at tennis, but as far as I know Light trumps L’s physical strength as it is mentioned he is also a prodigy in sports.
L is definitely more Skilled though. Being as he's proficient in martial arts. So it really depends on how much stronger Light is compared to L. Which IMO is not enough to give the fight to Light... As for critical thinking under pressure, manipulating, and sacrificing goes: 1 It would be more like 50/50 on Critical thinking. 2 Light would be the better manipulator. 3 It would either be 50/50, or L's apathetic nature would propel him passed Light on the subject of sacrificing people. At least in my opinion because Light still trusts others as little of trust as it may be. Since he chooses to rely on others. Which IIRC is what caused the ending of "Deathnote". Unlike Light who literally views himself as god... So I'd say they are about 50/50 on the mental warfare, but L takes the cake in any physical altercation...

I don't really see Light going forward with the final game against L, while there's probably some Justice reasons like not wanting to kill people under the ruleset he deems as evil but I also don't think Light would go into something like this unless he was near absolutely certain he could win.
L on the other hand I could see being the one to make an excuse to play the game as a means of testing Light and see how he acts when being pushed and if he'll reveal himself. Or perhaps intentionally lose and see Lights reaction before then disarming the one of the guards before taking them hostage, buying as much time as need be for the task force to get there, either that or be playing the game with Light the whole time until the task force arrived if they weren't to arrive sooner which they honestly probably could.
I dont beleave Light would actuly be capable of killing someone without using the death note. i mean in the entire show he only kills people by writeing there name he never actuly kills someone with his own hands. the only way to win squid game would be to get violent epseicly in the final game and i just dont think he would be able to do that.

I think you reversed Light and L's positions since Light is the master manipulator which will make him a perfect player for the game while L is the best detective which will definitely fit with the "cop trying to know about the organization" role.

Most likely yes, but the luck based segments might kill them off surprisingly. So you can't fully write them off as winners so easily. Given how other contestants might react to either of the two as well, you have to factor in the backstabbing as well. Now it's not likely both Light and L will partake at the Game at the same time, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do.

Other than the glass bridge, I don't see why they wouldn't be able to survive if they played their cards right.
The glass bridge is just about luck unless if you can tell the difference in between the different types of glass and even if you do, the game master won't simply let you as we saw in the show.

Just a thought on the marble game, if I remember correctly, they said you had to take the marbles from your opponent, not specifically “your partner”, so even if L and Light did partner for this, I’m sure L would notice the phrasing and have him and Light go for another couple that also wants both people to survive, like the husband and wife. So instead they do a 2v2 game with the marbles where Light and L win so they both get 20 marbles each. Obviously this falls apart if they specially said “you have to take all marbles from your partner”

Although it would have been perfect if you simply changed the player count from 456 to 458 to account for the new players so they could have at least interacted.
I think L could pretty easily, Light on the other hand is pretty prone to random morality crises and anxiety attacks.
Maybe with the Death Note and after being Kira for a bit Light would be a bit more capable, but base-form Light is too kiddy.

He was mad but then he accepted the challenge. A challenge with somewone who finally matches his intellect. Light couldn't make a mistake if he didnt knew somewone like L was after him
@@kc_h7h Light did make a mistake though. He had no reason to kill the fake L when broadcasted because Light’s main goal was to kill the bad guys. Him killing the prisoner showed his first major mistake that gave L a nice edge. Not only did it show his location, but it also showed how the death note somewhat worked, and that the killer, Light had an ego. If Light was actually smart, he would’ve waited later on after the broadcast to kill the fake L on the news broadcast. He had his name and face, and if Light had killed the fake L later on rather than falling into L’s obvious trap, it would’ve thrown L and the whole spk and police force off track. But Light was arrogant and underestimated a detective, so it was obviously a mistake and was definitely avoidable.
I feel like the 1st game could catch light off guard enough to move a bit or take a step back and kill him, L on the other hand is a stoic beast so I'm sure he'd probably win

Light does get more comfortable with killing when he has the death not, but the whole good Light vs evil Light comparison goes a bit overboard in a few instances in this vid. The one that really crossed the line for me was the idea that "good Light" would let someone beat him in a life and death game just because he liked them or thought they were a good person. Light didn't become manipulative, selfish, or cold because of the death note; the death note just provided an opportunity for him to take a slide down a slippery slope.
This video made me realise how much of a better person light would be if he have never got the death note.
Though at least Light was a better person than Seth

If only one of them participate at a time, they each respectively solo the verse, EASY. Light is manipulative and ruthless, while L is hyper competitive and would more than likely predict every single game on some god tier shit.
If they participate in the same game, I would have to put money on Light actually winning it all. He has a more likable personality, and would probably find a means of dealing with L in the mid to late game, especially when he will be able to recruit more people. While Light will be devoting his efforts to actually, L will more than likely use a lot of his time attempting to figure out the people behind the game.

This is totally a crossover au fanfic presented in video essay form, and i love it. I love that you included how they would get involved in the games in canon. Tho i think it also would be interesting to see how might they perform if they were going into it as blind as the rest of the contestants. Given both their backgrounds, i think they'd be less shocked and appauled by the deaths and be able to think more logically than a lot of the other people, but i also do still think that it might play out a little differently if they went in blind and didnt have any prior knowlage. Especially if you take into consideration the fact that for this version, they had to learn korean. L and Light being them, i bet they'd pick up on the language pretty quick, but it would be a pretty interesting plotpoint if they went into it not knowing any Korean.
Before watching the video: I think the answer is obviously yes for both of them, assuming they're put in the exact same position to start off as Gi-Hun was. Obviously both of them are way too intelligent and manipulative and competent to end up in his financial situation, but we can put that aside for the purposes of the question. Both of them are expert manipulators, and have no hesitation or remorse in killing people, especially for their own survival. Also, both of them are so much more intelligent than the other characters that it's not even funny. Light and L both have way better sleight of hand skills and whatnot than anything displayed in the show. Both characters are also physically fit and can fight. Obviously some of the death games are a matter of luck (especially the glass tile game), but it can be mitigated with strategy. In the marble game, they could get their partner to agree to a game that is solely based on skill rather than probability or guesswork, so that one is fine. The first death game is easy for them, and they are both mentally tough enough and steely to avoid flinching once people are shot. Also, if tug-of-war was winnable for the protagonist's team, Light and L would both have won as well, ignoring any changes in team selection strategy they might have made. They might've both realized not to choose a partner they didn't want to kill (which in their case is no one lol), since it would be too straightforward. They would've been fine surviving being attacked at night. They would've both low-diffed the sugar honeycomb and marble games, obviously. The glass tile game is the only time I could possibly see either of them dying. But if they are both given Gi-Hun's plot armor and luck (for fairness), they would survive. Hell, Light's luck on his own in Death Note is arguably superior to Gi-Hun's luck. Strategy and psychological manipulation in that situation wouldn't be a problem for them either obviously. Neither of them would even fall asleep at night after the dinner before the final game. They would both probably do well in the physical combat in the final game of Squid. So yeah they probably both easily win.
Actually speaking of anime characters in Squid game, I couldn't help but keep constantly thinking about how many shounen anime characters would effortlessly beat squid game. That's even barring their regen/durability/strength/speed advantages in terms of being able to straight-up tank or dodge or regen from gunshots and whatnot. Like JoJo characters would destroy this... stupidly broken stands aside, there are many creative ways to use many of the utility stands (like hermit purple's spirit photography). Naruto characters (even if you restrict ninjutsu and genjutsu since that's cheating) can use stuff like the Sharingan or Sage mode, which would make characters OP in Squid game, since they could see clearly in the dark and probably tell which glass is tempered, for example. DBZ characters aren't relevant here obviously. But in my opinion by far the most interesting crossover would be Yu-Gi-Oh lol. If you've read the original yugioh manga (especially the first 59 chapters) or watched "Season 0," it is fairly obvious that Atem would no-diff the whole thing (even without his luck manipulation abilities). His whole MO in the manga is playing mundane death games with people and winning creatively even when they are completely rigged. Hell, it's even in the name of the series (since Yu-Gi-Oh translates to "Game King" or "King of Games"). He's never lost a game, much less a death game obviously. Even if you get rid of Atem, and don't even allow use of the Millenium Puzzle (including turning it into a Yami no Game to prevent cheating, or using its luck manipulation to help), Yugi on his own has been stated to never have lost a game lol. Plus he surpasses Atem by the end of the series. So normal Yugi Muto would also win. Like Squid Game is eerily similar to Death-T from the yugioh manga, and most of Atem's Yami no Games are either harder or more intense than these death games. Similar in style too. I think if you restrict supernatural physical powers but keep them in character, Atem and Yugi actually do the best in Squid Game of any famous shounen anime characters.
If Light was allowed to bring a bag of chips in, it would be game over for everyone else

I appreciate your semi-believable fanfic approach, though I also think using amnesia!Light and his relative naivety and strong morals is a major handicap most people don't factor in when they speculate about how well Light would perform. Although that said, he's still very smart, so I'd give him much better odds than L of pursuing options that help save the other contestants (especially if L thinks sacrificing them would help him learn something), even if he might deal with some inner conflict over whether they're worth saving (that superiority complex is still in there).
The Squid Game exists in several countries around the world. Probably in Japan too. L and Light wouldn't need to travel to Korea to solve this case.

If L "WAS OUT OF CHARACTER", he would ruthlessly win. Otherwise, He would most likely devise a way for both him and LIGHT to Die and Arrange for an innocent to survive. Reasoning is simple. L is not concerned about dying, or the concept of death and is more than willing to justify his own death or the death of an adversary if it means saving innocents, either way he would "win the bout between he and light". Light however compulsively tries to survive, due to his god complex and becomes increasingly erratic and childish the more he is cornered, leaving room for L to resolve to remove him from the equation.
So that means that maybe Sae-byok (misspelled sorry) could actually win the game because of L in the last couple scenes (let’s pretend glass never hit her which it shouldn’t have in the first place)

22:10 I believe at this point that L would immediately figure out that the patterns on the wall show the games they played and would play.
I actually think that the ending would be more like so: Light tries to kill L, but fails. L, instead of actually pushing Light out of bounds, would simply fight Light until he submits, and at that point offers to vote to end the game. Light would then have the choice of voting to end or to take his own life, and would vote to end and try to lie / manipulate his way out of any admission of guilt afterwards. There would still be scheming and plausible deniability at play so I think there'd be room to have a more interesting ending to the Kira case.
The real question would be if the game could handle Light and L
