    The teaching cue of getting the hitter into a firm front side is a Point of Emphasis I've only recently come to appreciate and teach to our youth hitters. I wish I had been teaching the main points of this video long ago. Great stuff!

    Hey michael. My son and i are enjoying your training videos. They are clear and easy to understand, even for novices like ourselves. My son has a mechanically sound swing, but he is late on his swing regularly. Even in slow BP. Do you have any drills that would help us get his timing down? Thanks for your help. TT

      Tt8377 Thanks for the nice comment and question! I don't have any videos specifically on the subject of being late, yet I have some coming out in the near future! In the meantime I would highly suggest getting the load and stride done really early. More times than not when hitters are behind is because they try to load, stride and swing all at the same time and it's a very hard way to hit. It's fine to over exaggerate this, especially if he's having trouble on slower BP, where you get the load and stride (foot down) done, before the ball is released. This would be a great starting place to begin to learn solid timing.Great question! This is a pretty dynamic subject and if you have any further questions on this or anything else I'll be happy to help out! Just let me know!.~Michael Pro Speed Baseball

    Great tip, my son was keeping it pretty straight with load, stride, swing but then when we switched to full speed swings he’d end up bending the front. I’ll have to try this with him.

    This is a great drill... I have a ? Do you do the same routine when swinging at high and low pitches?.. What approach with my swing path changes when the ball is NOT down the middle?

    • @ProSpeedBaseball
      @ProSpeedBaseball  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      platanorico86 That's a great question, I actually have a video coming out soon on this similar subject about swing path. The simple answer is to have the same swing path approach on every pitch no matter where it is. There are 2 big reasons why: 1) It's nearly impossible to change "swing path" thoughts mid-pitch and still be effective. 2) By having one swing path thought you can go after every pitch (no matter location) the same way, simplifying the process and become a dynamic hitter. So the question is, what is the right swing path? As simply as I can put it, the correct swing path is straight to the ball with the hands. Whether it's high, low, or right in your wheelhouse by taking the hands straight to the ball and creating proper lag, the barrel will naturally take the most efficient path to the ball. (For EXAMPLE: High pitches, barrel will stay up, Low pitches, barrel will drop)In an ideal world, you would only be swinging at pitches right where you want them, but as we all know, adjustments are crucial for being a consistent hitter. Therefore, by simplifying the swing-path, we allow ourselves to be dynamic and give ourselves the opportunity to hit every pitch with authority.Hope this answers your question, the video will go into it a little better and in depth. If you have any other questions on this or anything else don't hesitate to ask!! Thanks for the comment and question!!~Michael Pro Speed Baseball

    Thanks for the video. I was hoping to ask a quick question. We work with an instructor locally who is trying to teach us this concept in what I deem a confusing fashion. He stresses to my son to push forward while simultaneously pushing backwards. I believe what your doing here is what he is trying to teach. However, he is extremely obsessed with finishing way back with upper body at like a 45 degree angle with respect to the ground. How important is this tilting back in your opinion? Thank you very much!!

    This video did the trick for my son with just a couple of 50 rep cycles. He can achieve significant pop off the tee now. Can you tell me, is this drill intended to modify a bating stance, or is it just meant for training with the person returning to normal batting stance but hopefully with better mechanics?

    • @ProSpeedBaseball
      @ProSpeedBaseball  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great to hear! This drill really is a game changer for the front knee issue!
      The drill is designed to over exaggerate the knee bend so the hitter with the issue is more physically aware of what the knee is doing.
      Depending on the degree of bending being used by the individual in the drill, it could be added into the stance. However, if the knee is too flexed, I wouldn't recommend trying to add that to the setup.
      To answer your question simply: The drill is meant to train the front leg to work properly then you would return to your normal stance.
      Hope this answers your question! If you have any other questions, on this or anything else, just let us know!
      Thanks for the great comment and good luck moving forward! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball

    Ok so we tried it today and he did really well with the pause, but just like before when we switched to full speed swing he wasn’t really able to straighten it fully until after contact during the follow through. What is the fix for this?

      By not doing what this video is demonstrating. The batter is putting his front foot down early, then stopping, then trying to start again. He's all on the wrong side of the Law of Inertia. Cutting his power and all his clients' power in half.

    Hi All, Straightening the front leg while bending the back leg creates a sufficient amount of hip swivel to drive the ball--and, fortunately, there are plenty people nowadays on the web (such as the coach in this video) who are dispensing scientific facts to hitters of all ages, and not just cliches which have been falsified during scientific studies, such as the notion that a fastball can rise. Well done! Take care, QP

    • @larryrush7070
      @larryrush7070 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      All true if you accept the premise that front foot down early is a scientifically advisable hitting strategy. It is not! By no means! It is the worst thing you can do to the kinetic chain of a swing. The straightening of the front leg is a compensation, therefore. With a negative consequence of the front upper body and head and eyes now going upwards after initially going downward.

    I noticed a while back that nearly all pro hitters lock out that front knee almost to the point of hyper extension seemingly at the point of contact. This is the first drill I’ve seen on it though. So thanks! Could you please tell me if the locking out of the knee should happen just before, just after or exactly at the point of contact? Thanks again!

    • @ProSpeedBaseball

      Great question! Timing of the front leg straightening is going to be just before or right at impact ideally... There are great hitters that do both. ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball
