yeah because it's not like homura pulled madoka from her godhood to become a devil for her own selfish desires and sayaka being right about homura the whole time...OH WAIT.
@@XxArcanaHeartLover98XtendxX i mean, Homura getting to THAT point was after YEARS of going back again and again and again and again having her sanity deteriorate little by little and, i believe, having the idea that Madoka's sacrifice implanted into her head, with the insanity that comes with being a witch... I dont think its even FAIR to say Sayaka was right about Homura. Cause the Homura she was suspicious of in those timelines and the Homura who betrayed Madoka are barely the same person anymore.
@@XxArcanaHeartLover98XtendxX she does have valid reasons for doing that, I mean imagine doing that for hundreds of years to just save one person and in the end that same person makes themselves have a fate worse than death. I’d say Homura is a very patient person and at that point she just snapped
@@XxArcanaHeartLover98XtendxX well it was either that, or go to magical girl heaven where she lets Madoka become controlled by the Incubators and the law of cycles gets destroyed, and the witch systems come back rendering both Madoka’s wish and Homura’s wish mean absolutely nothing.
I think the issue is that Mami and Sayaka are too idealistic and self righteous for their own own good; fully believing that magical girls are meant to save people and that anyone who doesn’t fit their profile of a heroic magical girl is an enemy not to be trusted. This also leads to them not taking the truths about the magical girl world like soul gems and witches well and breaking down which is why Homura gave up on warning them which leads to a positive feedback loop of neither Mami and Sayaka trusting her due to her cryptic nature. On the other hand, Kyoko’s already cynical about the system and life in general that the truths while shocking wouldn’t destroy her like the other two and is pragmatic enough that she can be worked with provided you don’t waste food or kill familiars. Meanwhile, Madoka’s key personality is her empathy and willingness to understand and help people which leads to her trying to reach out to Homura and understanding she isn’t a bad person when most characters would’ve wrote her out
Maybe Homura getting Sayaka and Mami to trust her should have been a bigger priority than telling them the truth. Shouldn't be surprising that some people expect Mami and Sayaka to listen to Homura even if they barely know her.
@@nannombre2238 If that's the case why did Sayaka trust Mami as soon as meeting her. Just because she was older doesn't mean she should be trusted. Plus Mami also seemed like she trusted Sayaka upon first meeting her as well.
I think sayaka is like this because she can’t handle what’s going on she has the tough girl personality to cover up her insecurities the same with mami
@mahoushoujo they only hate Sayaka because they are equally as emotional. Sayaka is Ariel, and so many people don't know they she doesn't have a canonical happy ending but still grab the karaoke mic when "part of your world" plays 😂
@@L3onking I think it's more a sign of the times with the way Homura gets more fan love than Sayaka. Someone that has heavily idealized views of the world often get slowly despondent as the world makes it obvious that their idealized views may not match with reality, whereas Homura represents someone that is a good friend fighting to save their friends (to most fans' perspectives) - and the Internet isn't short of people that crave that kind of friendship (there's lots of comments that, every once in a while, express feelings of not having friends and wishing for some).
I can now see why homura kinda let Sayaka get herself killed now... Every timeline she becomes a magical girl she dies and anytime homura tires to help she's like "ok but how about no" (I don't hate Sayaka as she's emotional, young and doesn't have the hindsight of time-travel like homura. Im just saying I kinda see why homura left her to her fate)
I mean damn even in the show during the final timeline when she's done this shit more times than a speedrunner in a game and probably nearly as frustrated, she still has the grace to offer Sayaka a grief seed probably knowing that she'd swat it away, saved her from fighting with Kyoko, ran after a truck to get her soul back, etc. If she completely didn't care I don't think she'd do those things? But I get why she's not so desperate to save Sayaka like she is Madoka.
Yeah... I like Sayaka, but personally I'm more likely to act like the old Homura. I really can sympathise with her. I went through on this too, like nothing is good what you are doing, no matter how hard you try.
I did laugh when it switched to the new timeline and it's right after she's just died, Sayaka can't catch a break lol
Sayaka remarks (correctly, as pointed out by Homura herself), that she is only being helped by Homura because of some ulterior motives (preventing Madoka from becoming a magical girl). Homura doesn't care about Sayaka. She and Kyubey are just playing 5D chess with the lives of the other magical girls in order to get Madoka to become or not become a magical girl. Homura attempts to kill Sayaka after Sayaka refuses the grief seed she offers her, because she doesn't want Madoka to attempt to save Sayaka by becoming a magical girl. Homura doesn't care about Sayaka.
@@unstablepc5913 I would imagine at one point Homura did care about Sayaka and Mami considering she does have loops where she is in Madoka's friend group and trained under Mami but after enough loops of multiple fails including the clear sign that Mami loses it if she learns the truth or Sayaka probably going witch multiple times she probably wrote them off as a lost cause and in turn stopped trying to make a connection with them which makes her look distrustful.
To be fair, I wouldn't accept a gift from a stranger either. Especially since Homura has always been cold to her. We are only seeing Homura's point of view and her despair but she's never stopped to consider if her tactical approach to the other girls has ever worked. It works with Kyoko because Kyoko values self preservation and knows when to give up on people. They get along also because they don't need to have a good understanding of each other to corporate. It's all strictly business, this-for-that mentality. As far as Kyoko's concerned, if she gets something, that makes it a fair deal. Mami, Sayaka and Madoka are all altruistic but Madoka is the only one who can make friends with Homura because rudeness doesn't deter her. Homura went from shy and social anxiety-ridden straight to confident and cold hearted. Homura is not meant to be a perfect character. She is very flawed and her obsession with saving someone doomed was her downfall. She still ended up losing. In rebellion she laments how she didn't stop madoka from making her wish. Had madoka not interfered, she would still be doing the exact same thing (or even become a witch).
@@unstablepc5913 And that was the only time she was right about Homura in the entire show (not counting the movie). Sayaka was extremely judgemental. She'd judge your character in an instant and then everything you did would be colored by those motivations even when it didn't make sense. Think about her obsession with grief seeds. Mami told her once that magical girls will fight over grief seeds and Kyouko taunted her about it once she realized it was a sticking point for Sayaka. Somehow in her mind, that became proof that all magical girls other than her and Mami were obsessed with grief seeds despite plenty of evidence to the contrary.
@@featherton3381 I think your interpretation of Sayaka is severely biased. It's important to remark that other than with Mami, all of Sayaka's encounters with magical girls happen in situations, where from her POV, her life or Madoka's is threatened. Her quick judgments of others come from extremely tense situations. "I was wrong about you, I apologize about that, really" - Sayaka in episode 7, to Kyoko. So Sayaka is capable of acknowledging that she wrongly judged someone. Perhaps most importantly, though Sayaka being overly judgemental is a character flaw, it is especially so because of how unforgiving she is to herself. "I'm... such a horrible person", Sayaka at the start of episode 4.
I know there's a timeline out there where Homura has her hair down, glasses off and she starts arguing with Sayaka because she can't stand her going against her for the 2020102th time lol
@@ShiraFuyu2022 Do you know where I can find that information? Kyouko herself was born before or just after the industrial revolution started which would make her around 300 years old, And Homura's skill *far* surpasses Kyouko's magical and skill capabilities so I'm finding that a little hard to believe.
@@sandy_carpetsthesecond5013 What? Wouldn't she age? As far as I know, being a magical girl doesn't prevent that, since Kyoko looks younger in her flashback. Do you have a source that she just ages really slowly?
@@tarniabook3076 Magical girls theoretically live forever so I don't think their bodies age (or they do, but they can reverse aging with magic, I mean homura fixes her eyesight). Kyoko's flashback does seem to be set in pre-modern times but I'm going to guess that most magical girls don't like that long
Homura just remade the universe into something more peaceful for everyone, including Madoka especially. She just lost her mind in the process. People see her acting "evil" and just automatically assume that she is suddenly a villain because they lack critical thinking skills.
@@omoriref She literally says it herself that she's considered evil through a technicality, not out of morals. She has to be the opposing force of Madoka. Hell! Madoka wished herself to be a grim reaper!
When the most (seemingly) vicious character turns out to be the friendliest and most rational of them all. (Crap, that's starting to sound like Bakugo.)
@@kamentrainerhorn2073 Ehh, relatable I guess. Nothing quite more aggravating than knowing how to do something and having literally every single person you know go against your advice and complaining afterwards.
The two have a tendency to bro out whenever they interact for an extended period of time. Probably because Kyouko understands that most magical girls are batshit insane so Homura’s time travel induced eccentricities are just assumed to be par for the course
I love Sayaka, such a well-written and realistic character. These scenes are infuriating for exactly the right reasons. You’re not mad at any one party, Sayaka or Homura, you’re mad because you wish you could just scream at the screen and tell them what happened, tell her the truth that only you as the viewer know. It’s a really good way to emotionally invest your audience and make them more frustrated when things go wrong. TL:DR this show is well written and I cry over it every night
Yeah, that's why she's stupid. Making a realistic character doesn't make it less stupid character. If a person does this to me I would never talk to her ever again. She's basically: *Homura tell the truth * Sayaka: nah, liar, that's stupid I won't believe that Another timeline *Homura do not tell the truth * Sayaka: Hey why you haven't told anything? Are you evil? Fck 0ff Sayaka. (I like Sayaka tho)
Exactly. The scene in the cafe after Mami's death pointed it out. When Madoka was bringing up all of Sayaka's good points (altruism, self sacrifice, bravery etc.,) Homura responded with "and those traits are fatal for a magical girl. Excessive kindness causes naivety (weakness). Reckless bravery leads to inattention to detail, and there is no reward for dedication of any kind. You are unfit to be a magical girl if you do not realize this. That is why Tomoe Mami lost her life" * pops the lid off a coffee cup as she says this* She then makes it clear Sayaka is a lost cause, no matter what anyone does.
I can understand why Homura does not communicate well with Mami and Sayaka. They are both idealistic and both sink into despair once they know truth about magical girls. Mami is the most unstable one from the group despite being leader. Once she has evidence that magical girls turn into witches, she snaps. Kyoko, ironicaly , is much more cool headed. She also lost her family and is completely alone, but unlike Mani she does not suffers from it. That's why Homura always speaks to Kyoko on shady things and asks her for help. Sayaka on the other hand just doesnt have knowledge or experience. She also tends to think that she is the one who is right, that she's a good person and watches at world as white and black, without looking into other people's perspectives or listening to them.
I agree but we can't blame Mami and Sayaka in fact they being rude to Homura because Homura in the beginning she starts being shady, mysterious and saying vague things she is too perfectionist to make an ally to defeat Walpurgisnacht and she always being jerk to to them. she's only easier to interact with Kyoko, But Kyoko also doesn't care that much about Homura like Mami and Sayaka does, in fact Homura only sees Kyoko as an ally but not a true friend.
The tragic thing is, the Oriko manga proves that Mami _can_ learn the truth without snapping. In the show it’s understandable why she did bc she had to find out through killing Sayaka’s witch form.
I think Mami and Sayaka had a more valid reason to dislike and show hostility to Homura in the anime timelines. In the former timelines though? Not so much.
@@mitsubachihachi9643but that’s why homura gave up being sweet and gave up trying to save everyone. sayaka and mami were always hostile and always destined to die, so why bother trying to
Homura is my favorite but I still love looking from each character's perspective. I love how despite this series being so old people can still create new analysis and find new perspective on it.
I can understand both perspectives. Homura grew sick of Sayaka never giving her a chance (and also likely just became more apathetic towards the fates of anyone who isn't Madoka as she kept re-setting over and over), but how is Sayaka supposed to know for certain that Homura is well-intentioned?
Exactly. A crucial difference is that Homura has known Sayaka for 8 years, but from Sayaka’s perspective, Homura has been there for like a month at best and is already causing problems.
The whole show is like an exercise in how annoying trying to relate to a time traveler would be. Like if someone showed up and knew everything about you, but like, from timelines that didn't exist to you, there'd be massive issues. To them you're like a close friend, hated enemy, detested liability, etc. To you, they're a seemingly omniscient creep
@@MakoProfessionalJerk Ok but if that creep told you that you would die if you didn't take care of yourself what you not listen? I'm not saying I would react well to someone knowing so much about me that i've literally never seen before in my life but her intentions ain't giving off I wanna lure you and murder you vibes. (Maybe i'm weird). Also Sayaka always had issues with Homura. She can't do shit without Sayaka yelling at her. Homura is trying to help out with battle when all of a sudden "STOP USING BOMBS". Like Madoka is using a magic bow and Mami is using a magic gun but now all of a sudden using bombs is too much? She also doesn't listen to anybody. Her friend literally told her to confess her love in a day is she didn't she would take the opportunity herself. What did Sayaka do? Wait literally all day and then have the nerve to fall in despair and act surprised like she didn't know. I'll give Sayaka the bus incident tho. Those guys were pieces of shit. Overall Sayaka was way too righteous. She acted like the world is full of flowers and daisies and that nothing can go wrong EVER. Even at the age she was I knew that 1. The world isn't all goody goody 2. That making wishes to weird alien creatures isn't a good idea and 3. That wanting to be a hero could be a bad idea. That's not the only problem either. It's Sayaka's attitude too. She expects that when she helps people they have to return the gesture even when they don't know that she was the one who did it. She healed Kyosukes (forgot his name) arm just so that he could love her not just doing it for the kindness of her heart. Which is why she responded to the whole her friend loving her love interest in such a bad way. She's i off that she is way too spoiled and immature even for her age. No this doesn't mean she deserved dying or even having the fate of being a magical girl all i'm saying is that sooner or later is that with the mindset she had something would of happened that would wake her up to reality. Unfortunately it was the slow pain of knowing she was way too immature and it made her completely break. (Dear god i'm not typing another comment for atleast a week lol)
The funniest thing is that Sayaka's complaint about the bombs is because she's a melee fighter, when her swords have triggers on them to shoot the blades out and she just never uses them outside of like one or two instances in the Wraith Arc, before Homura even comes in 💀 (Maybe MagiReco too? I haven't watched much yet) Hell, she even throws her swords for a ranged attack instead of pulling the very obvious trigger-looking thing on her own weapon. Scene 0 is new, but it also shows that Sayaka only got hurt in by an explosion during a fight with Kyoko because she charged at her after Homura had already thrown a bomb at Kyoko to protect Sayaka and stop their fight.
I'm in a hate/love loop with both Mami and Sayaka. They're iconic and well written but always act based on their feelings and that's sometimes such a dumb thing to do. Poor homura has to pull up with their bs in thousands of timelines.
@@disco_depression True. There were so many times where I was just like "I know y'all are 12 and making 12-year-old mistakes but can you not be 12 and making 12-year-old mistakes?"
@@animeman8203 I'm 17 and people my age are far from being fully grown (myself included!) I don't see any of my classmates having the same maturity and mental strength as homura or madoka if we went through anything similar. We as a generation have mental breakdowns all the time 😭
I bet Sayaka's just a bit jealous. Some transfer student just stumbles in and gets to about the same amount of friendship that it took Sayaka almost her lifetime to build up? That's gotta sting.
Okay I see where you're coming from, but Sayaka and Madoka have been friends since kindergarten (It was revealed in "The Different Story" manga spin off which IS canon.)
Sayaka was very emotional to begin with, where Homura tended to think things trough (or sometimes over think). Learning the truth about magical girls however sent Sayaka spiraling into despair and madness. The only one less stable was Mami (and we know what happens when SHE finds out the truth).
Reminder that Homura and Sayaka are good friends by the end of Magia Record season 2. Homura and Sayaka are also together a surprising amount of times in background shots which is amusing.
Also in the mobile game(the original source of magia record)after a beach event,at the end, Sayaka ask her to protect her with Homura wholeheartedly agrees, even though later a shadow of herself tells her that she should just focus on madoka
> Magia Record Reminder that, that Homura is not this Homura. Magia Record, a timeline Madokami allowed to play out and see a future she could keep on being a grill.
In fairness: the Oriko manga proves that Mami _doesn’t_ go crazy every time she finds out. In the show, she had to find out after Sayaka transformed and the group was essentially forced to kill their own friend. A quick, merciful death probably DOES look appealing after that.
It feels as if Sayaka just likes to take her anger out on Moemura. Like I’m rewatching the end of Magia Record arc 1 (the game, not the anime) and there’s a moment where Sayaka’s putting her all into trying to kill Eve, and when Moemura tries to go and stop her (cause it wasn’t doing anything), Sayaka yells at her and accuses her of being a coward who sits in the sidelines, saying “she can’t just sit around and let people die”, and only listens to reason once Kyoko comes in and snaps at her as well. I just think it’s kinda sad, and I think the two could be really good friends if the two (mainly Sayaka) actually tried, and if they put actual trust into each other.
It's frustrating because Moemura was just trying to help but Sayaka always accuses her of things she didn't do and lashes out at her. I would resent her too if I were Moemura.
@@KIJHKRight, I semi-understand people are saying she’s irrational because she’s a teenager, but nobody acts this hostile towards anyone with no genuine reason😭.
option 3: turn into a witch and trap your friends within a labyrinth designed to replicate a perfect iteration of the life you previously lived so sayaka is reborn serving the role as a messenger for the other victims of the labyrinth and to finally reunite you with the individual you've spent countless months trying to rescue from a grim fate
People who keep shitting on Homura for her "lack of social skills" seem to forget that she has a very good reason to be like that after what she experienced in the 3rd timeline.
Plus Homura discovered history doesn't repeat itself but rhymes through iterations. She’s going against predeterminism i.e., fate. She has to strategically choose what she says because it could possibly lead her down a timeline she already been in. Plus there’s a time limit when it comes to social reactions, she just can’t stand there and think of a good response. So the best option is remain mute and interfere with fate through actions which she does but it only freaks people out because well she’s not normal compared the rest of them. They can sense that something is off about her.
Side note, it's quite amazing seeing how much the animation has grown over the years. The lines, colours and rendering are super crisp in Magia Record!
Sayaka will probably think that Homura has some sort of evil wish that made her becoming a demon. But there's no way that she's going to debunk easily since she has no idea about Homura's true wish. Ever since she has a history of judging before using her brain.
Personally I love Sayaka but I won't shy away from saying that she can be extremely irrational and downright hypocritical in the way she behaves, especially with my fav girl Homura. A bunch of other people have already brought up the flaws Sayaka has as a person, all I'll say is that I can't imagine how frustrating it is to be Homura trying to save her friends from a bad end and every time you start over at least two of the friends you're trying to save begin to antagonize you and treat you like a villain. While to a certain extent I can understand where they are coming from, it doesn't make it any less annoying, especially if you're trying to save their lives and they keep turning on you every time you try. No wonder Homura gave up on them, Sayaka became hostile towards her regardless of whether she knew the truth or not and Mami not only did she not believe her but at one point tried to kill her and would have succeeded if it wasn't for Madoka's interference. If you think about it out of their entire group the only ones willing to listen, cooperate or even be nice to Homura were Madoka and Kyoko, Mami and Sayaka were kinda not all that great friends to her.
Yeah agreed. I like both characters but so much of Madoka's karmic fate could've been avoided if it wasn't for Sayaka. Mami contributed to it too by turning Madoka into a puella magi in the first place. But Sayaka also did a lot to prevent Homura's wish from being fulfilled. Although one correction I'll make here is that Mami tried to kill the girls in that one timeline BECAUSE she learned the truth. That's also part of why she turns into Holy Mami in Magia Record. Because she's trying to "save" the girls she turned into puella magi in her own twisted way.
@@GalaxiaStars But that's the thing. Homura knows so much about what Kyubey has done, and if she questioned him in the right way she could probably get him to admit it. It's probably the best way she could convince Madoka not to become a magical girl. But in the crucial early days when she and Mami are fighting for influence over the girls, she literally can't say anything about Kyubey's deeper intentions because she knows what Mami will do if she finds out the truth. Admittedly, that probably was only a minor factor in why Homura kept failing. Homura is very an uncharismatic person after all, while Mami is the type that other girls respect and follow. Besides, Homura did decide at some point that no one would believe her so even after Mami is gone, she never really tells the others what Kyubey is doing, preferring to let them see it for themselves.
If Sayaka wish to know how Homura dethroned Madokami and become a demon, she has to see it for herself. Because after the number of times she doubts her, she won't tell her anything no matter what.
It’s her curse. Every wish comes with a curse. Mami lived but ONLY she lived. Sayaka healed Kyousuke but he left her for Hitomi. Kyouko gave her Dad religious authority but he used it to accuse her of evil then killed himself. Homura wished to go back and save Madoka but she can’t because no one will believe her about the future.
A lot of people call out Sayaka for being irrational, but keep in mind that teenagers aren't exactly known for being logical. That's why Kyubey chooses them for the contract. Because they tend to have strong emotions and act on those feelings instead of thinking things through.
@@Shadow_Sonata its so untrue though. ive seen boys breakdown all the time from toddlers to teens. theyre better at *hiding* their emotiomal issues, but that doesnt mean the emotions felt aren't there. Homura hides her emotions all the time and she still witched out, even her breakdown wasn't as dramatic as Sayaka's. So boys definitely can become witches on a similar short time spand, it'll just be way less noticeable. Theres also the trope that Boys don't take care of themselves, so theyre definitly not cleansing their soul gems properly either. And boys like violence and wanting to fight, which makes their soul gems dirtier with every magic use, all that can lead to a witch. For hiding their emotional despair though, imagine a magical boy going witch out nowhere for seemingly no reason, and you have to make out what made him witch out by looking at the clues in his witch design. That'd be so col a concept. not to mention al those botted up emotions and Homura's time shit could lead to a powerful witch.
@@Shadow_Sonata That's sexist as hell. The concept that girls are more effictive was literally just anime Japanese misogyny trying to sound practical. Literally Japan struggles with that sort of mentality every day. Hell, it's groundbreaking that this anime *didn't* try to upskirt the girls five different times per episode.
A great philosopher once said "Know yourself.'' Another important phrase is: "Before you judge someone, first get to know them well.'' Sayaka always had difficulties getting along with Homura and Kyouko. Both Homura and Kyouko are different, both in their ways of acting and thinking. Sayaka, didn't even stop to want to discover the true destiny of the magic kittens and didn't even purify her Soul Gem. Not to mention his extreme stubbornness, which irritated me a lot during the main anime. When Kyouko told Sayaka her tragic past, she realized that she had misjudged her and apologized, even so she didn't regret having made her wish for someone else.
This is honestly why I see Homura has a shorter and worse end of the stick compare to other Time Traveler like Subaru for instances. Sure, Subaru died many times to even get through a week or even a day, but while he can't tell everyone but Echidna about his Return by Death, he at least can talk about how he actually feels to the people around him and unite them to get to the good ending. Homura never killed anyone, but she never had the luxury of having anyone but Madoka backing her up and even if she did, Madoka would always ended up dead along with Walpurgisnacht, killed by Homura or turned into a Witch and there's also the fact that Homura's "Victory" In Rebellion is mostly a Lost with how her Mental State currently is
I just realized that Homura's world is an opportunity. I hope in Homura's world, she gets a chance to actually solve her own problems. Talk about them. Put them behind her. Not...sacrifice her life because she can't handle it anymore but she doesn't want to hurt people. P.S: I'm starting to understand the mindset behind the theory saying Madoka was actually planning to take her own life for a time now, and becoming a Goddess simply presented itself as an opportunity to do it and still be useful.
Since I consider Homura to be the best character in the series and have Sayaka as my personal favourite, I just want them to get along. Honestly I think they could actually be friends if things go well for once. I mean Sayaka was pretty chill with Homura until the end of Rebellion but I also don't blame Homura for doing what she did. Heck it was very generous for her to give the girl she got along with the least a pretty damn good normal life at the end. So I guess we'll see
Also, she fights with swords while Madoka and Mami with range weapons, so she has to move closer to the witches, where the explosions will take place. I totally get the fear.
Some of these comments are forgetting a crucial difference: Homura has known Sayaka for 8 years. Sayaka has known Homura for…not even a month? And she has no idea that time travel even exists, much less the suffering Homura has endured. You have to admit that if a stranger showed up out of nowhere, threw bombs and/or sprayed bullets around the team, and made wild accusations with no evidence WHILE you’re already being antagonised by Kyoko and witches (a lot of people forget that Sayaka had a Witch’s Kiss in the show’s timeline) then you wouldn’t exactly be besties. I love Homura as much as the next person, but the other girls were just doing the best they could without her experience or insight. Tbh I think she and Sayaka just naturally clash and that’s what makes their dynamic so interesting.
It would have been very easy for Homura to prove her accusations though. She can show the truth about soul gems by shooting herself in the head and fully recovering afterwards. This would show others that Kyubey doesn't tell everything and they would side with Homura. I think this is a plothole.
@@dkolable8770 that’s true. Or you could confront Kyubey about it directly in front of the others ig. He’s a snake, but he couldn’t lie if you asked a blatant yes or no question. Although if you go that route, you risk Mami going crazy again.

Its pretty telling when Kyubei would go after Sayaka but not Hitomi. Hitomi broke the bro code by asking out Kyosuke when Sayaka isn't shy about disclosing her crush to her close friends. Everyone hating on Sayaka don't understand the emotional roller coaster of having their "best friend" betray them and how it feels to essentially lose everything when trying to help the situation
Hitomi’s actually not homophobic. It was supposed to be a joke, and the original line was about “forbidden love”, not “girls can’t love girls”. She also blatantly had a crush on Homura in the PSP game which Urobuchi (the writer) worked on.
@@docgerbil9309 I didn't know that, so I'll correct my initial comment. Do you know if she also delivered homework for Kyosuke or helped in his therapy? Cause her crushing over Homura doesn't necessarily mean she considers the feelings of her friends and could be as selfish as the boyfriends of their homeroom teacher.
@mahoushoujo giving ultimatums about relationships is manipulative and crass, it's not her place to even suggest something unless she was an equal love rival. She just comes out of left field after him like Ursula in Little mermaid
@@docgerbil9309 hitomi being homophobic is still the best running gag every though, like we all know she isn't ACTUALLY homophobic but it's funny to say she is hfshjsfhsj
@mahoushoujo I don't really see Hitomi as being manipulative but actually being a genuinely good friend. She valued her friendship with Sayaka more than her crush on Kyousuke so she gave Sayaka a chance to confess before she does, allowing Sayaka to be with the guys she likes instead of herself. Sayaka just wasn't in a good mental state to be able to see that since she just learned that her soul isn't in her body and thus, viewing herself as someone who isn't human and doesn't deserve anything remotely good. And nobody ever told Hitomi about magical girls and the problems with being one so she didn't even realize what Sayaka was struggling with.
I don't hate Sayaka, but she definitely has a bad habit of mouthing off without thinking and can be very stubborn when it comes to her ideas of morality. She wants to adapt Mami's morals, but she does so in the most aggressive and reckless manner possible.
Sayaka was pretty harsh on Homura in the show, but she had her reasons for doing so. Same goes for Homura, after all of the misunderstandings, no wonder why she didn't give a damn about Sayaka (Or in some cases, Mami) anymore. That being said however, Sayaka was literally sent down to Homulilly's laybrint by God herself to save Homura and she didn't object to it. Even if it was just to see Kyoko again she still participated with Holy Quinted to free Homura from staying as her witch self. And only got angry with Homura after she literally re-wrote the Law of Cycle's Universe by becoming a devil and splitting Madoka's both selves, which ruined all of their hope in her perspective. I love these characters because they're so well written. I think this show captures the "everybody has flaws" case so well.
I don’t hate Sayaka but she annoys the hell out of me. Homura is just there to help and all Sayaka does is accuse her of shit like this. She can’t even begin to imagine the burden Homura bears and she often thinks about her own problems solely. I love Homura as a character so much that it just pisses me off when I see people or characters hating on her when she does NOT deserve it whatsoever.
Exactly if you think about it Sayaka is a hypocrite even if she did or didn’t tell her at the end of the day there is still Sayaka hating on her all the time. Honestly I wouldn’t blame her she was siding with Kyoko because even she’s nicer to her and treats her like a team mate even in rebellion and she doesn’t want anything bad happening to her.
right like I understand that Sayaka is also a child that's inherently emotional, and doesn't have the advantage of retrospective like Homura, but I often found myself extremely annoyed with her bc she didn't have the basic understanding and compassion that she should've- she didn't once consider that while, yes, she has her own burdens and suffering, other people do as well, and no matter how incompetent you believe them to be, they still deserve the same respect and understanding as any other person
To be fair, Homura doesn't seem to be trying to connect with Sayaka anymore. She just sees Sayaka as a threat and a problem. Not a person in that sense. In other words, in Homura's mind, Sayaka's long been written off as a threat and so Homura doesn't have the patience and the faculties to properly fix the issue with Sayaka anymore. When that window of opportunity was there, Homura was much more meek and Homura (even in the final timeline), has always seemed socially awkward and she struggles to connect with people. Not saying that's Homura's fault, but it is definitely influencing her decisions and especially so when she decided to just give up on Sayaka (not that Sayaka was being at all helpful or open to help from Homura).
Gosh, Sayaka's stubborn and judgemental nature will always bother me. It is very easy to hate her. While I don't actually, it's especially in moments like these where I can't stand her.
A well-written jerk is still a jerk. And still well-written. Honestly Sayaka is a lot better in Rebellion once she gains like a single ounce of maturity.
The dub makes Sayaka out to be worse than she actually is, you have to keep in mind that these are two completely different timelines. Not to mention, Homura has a bad habit of telling people things with literally no proof. Homura tells Madoka that Kyubey is evil, but Madoka has only seen Homura be violent, vindictive, and emotionless. Homura tells Sayaka that Kyubey is evil and that they’ll turn into witches, but Sayaka has never seen this happen and is fresh off not trusting people after her failed romance. Homura tells Kyoko about Walpurgisnacht, provides evidence, and talks her through it, and kyoko believes her. Shocking how that works, isn’t it?
@@xii600 What a way of thinking about it. Considering she has more going on with her character than Kyoko or the fact that Homura is literally Satan now, but okay Homura: BEBE IS A WITCH! Mami: Tf is a witch? All that time going to different timelines and she *still* can’t give proof of the shit she says, case closed
@@desubysnusnu Killing Kyubey right in front of them and then claiming that he is "evil" wouldn't be an option either. Ik it would be hard for her to prove herself but it would also be hard for Madoka and Sayaka to just believe her, also considering the fact, that Mami, who then became their "idol", also took Kyubey's side and called it a "friend". In the eyes of girls, Homura was already a cold and a distant person, and saw her as a threat. The thing is, you can't blame either party for behaving the way they did.
That's why I think Homura has a valid reason to dislike Sayaka. You can only try to help someone and warn them so many times before they accuse you of lying and treat you in a hostile way when all youre doing is just trying to help.
Homura used to said to Madoka "mahou shoujo don't fight for justice, they fight for their own way of life." But sayaka never accept that, she always think that mahou shoujo have to be allies of justice and being hostile aganst Homura and Kyouko. ( sorry but i'm quite bad at english)
Personally, I would never let anyone talk down or crazy to me like that. Push me towards my limit then it's going for a dentist's visit since it's going to get physical.
You know watching this clip reminds me again why I didn't like Sayaka when I watched Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica for the first time. I literally asked myself when I watched Rebellion and Magia Record why I used to dislike her, now I get my answer.
Ok i never really understand this, Sayaka looks like she already hated Homura for no reason. When I watched this the first time I kinda get why she dislikes Homura mainly because she was lowkey creepy towards Madoka
Sometimes you just get a vibe or the chemistry is bad. Even as a 23 year old I still get vibes about people but difference is you're much more contained about it as an adult
@@Freezient It's literally jealously and regret, because she can't be honest with her own feelings. She refused to confess to her crush after she found out about being effectively a lich, and spirals downwards when her crush go with her friend instead. Because she refused to be honest with her feelings. It's the same here. Shes jealous of the other magical girls, especially homura. Remember that sayaka is supposed to be the weakest on the team. All the other girls either have way more experience/natural talent or have broken asf powers. They even talk about this in the main anime when she asks why mami and kyoko are so much stronger than her and finds out madoka has the potential to be stronger than BOTH of them. So she feels inadequate. And on top of that, homura and madoka suddenly became best pals despite sayaka knowing her for years longer. She taking her insecurities out on homura because she's not emotionally mature enough to just tell her friends how she feels, because she considers it a sign of weakness or selfishness. And she takes it out on Homura specifically, because early on, she's the easiest target who's the least likely to fight back. You notice how in the modern timeline of the anime she takes it out on madoka? Because Moe- homura isn't there as an easy target anymore. Madoka is. Admitting that Sayaka has weaknesses clashes with her worldview, so instead she tries to pretend her insecurities and regrets don't exist and she takes them out on other people.
@@lunarrobot9714 So i’m assuming that scene took place after she saw her crush with her green haired friend hence why she was bitter. This was a very thorough explanation. Thanks
i'd say this is intentional, it's not a response to a situation but the dynamic between the characters, because in the bottom line, sayaka dislikes homura
I'm still mad Homura literally created bombs before ever thinking of using a gun and why doesn't she ever tell them "hey I can stop time, Look at this" and does that teleport run or stop time like damn.
Sayaka and Mami have similar issues. Sayaka is definitely worse in that she's.. well like this. But Mami's immediate reaction to finding out the first time was saw it was to literally try and kill the rest of her team. I don't think they're bad people, they're literally just kids thrust into an impossible and traumatic situation. You can't *really* blame people for how their fight, flight or freeze kicks in upon finding out that stuff. Don't get me wrong, I don't like either character myself. But while I don't like them or their actions I still know there isn't much else that could have been done on their end.
You also have to remember that Mami had to find out after Sayaka transformed and they were basically forced to kill their friend. A quick murder-suicide probably DOES seem like the lesser evil by that point.
Kinda Ironic, if you think reason Sayaka involved in Magical Girl Stuff because Homura Change whole Timeline. This make Homura indirectly cause Sayaka Doom but still is all because of Kyubey too
it's incredible that Sayaka causes all this trouble and pain all because she's too emotional and did all of that because of a boy that didn't loved her back :"]
Yall misunderstand her character so badly it hurts. She didn't breakdown because kyoskue didn't like her back she broke down BECAUSE SHE WAS LITERALLY NOT HUMAN ANYMORE
You know you're bad when the serial killer is more reasonable. Say what you will about Kirika, she's at least willing to listen when you're not in her crush's hit list.
Telling sayaka: Shows up with no proof, accusing a trusted friend (kyubey) and being a generally incompetent magical girl Not telling sayaka: Becomes an incredibly powerful magical girl via firearms, lets natural events happen, is cold and weird to sayaka and her childhood best friend in every timeline Simply put, Homura never tried to befriend Sayaka. Remember, we are seeing this story from Homura's point of view. Remember how distant and cold she was to Madoka and Sayaka during Mami's death? She gave up on Sayaka simply because she is not crucial to saving Madoka. Everything is about Madoka. She isolated Sayaka from madoka at every turn and even went as far as to erase their friendship in rebellion. Homura simply does not like Sayaka and couldn't get past that Sayaka didn't like her introversion. I would be skeptical of homura, too. I'm not arguing that Homura has to like Sayaka or even feel obligated to save her but I think people aren't giving Sayaka the benefit of the doubt. Sure, Sayaka is unlikeable because she made a foolish wish and dislikes our main character. She is in fact, a child. You would be wary if an enigmatic and quiet time traveler was obsessed with your best friend as well.
Esto no pasaria si estuviera la homura badass. Le dice sisi sayaka como digas. Recordemos que en la batalla con kyoko en el callejon la noqueo jsjs. Homura tiene pocas pulgas.
I can see why Homura's displeased with Sayaka in the "present" as Sayaka ends up being hostile to her and dies/becomes a witch no matter what Homura does. It's as disheartening as how Mami reacts to learning about the truth of Magical Girls and Witches. Sayaka and Mami are both idealists at heart and don't react well to perceived and real challenges to their ideals. I ultimately bring Kyubey for the whole mess though.
I know we only see the few times, and one of those being the start of the timeloops but you can't honestly tell me that after Homura learns ALL of the truth and why Kyubei does what he does that the 3 girls don't honestly go "oh actually, you know what... makes sense."
where are the scenes with Sayaka accusing Homura of laughing at them/telling her she's gonna get Madoka killed from? I don't remember them and idk if I just wasn't paying attention when watching the series or if these are from something else like Record (which I haven't seen yet)

@@XxArcanaHeartLover98XtendxX she does have valid reasons for doing that, I mean imagine doing that for hundreds of years to just save one person and in the end that same person makes themselves have a fate worse than death. I’d say Homura is a very patient person and at that point she just snapped

Maybe Homura just doesn't mix very well with emotional people.
Sayaka and Mami are the one's that Homura have the most difficulty communicating with.

I can now see why homura kinda let Sayaka get herself killed now...
Every timeline she becomes a magical girl she dies and anytime homura tires to help she's like "ok but how about no"

@@unstablepc5913
I would imagine at one point Homura did care about Sayaka and Mami considering she does have loops where she is in Madoka's friend group and trained under Mami but after enough loops of multiple fails including the clear sign that Mami loses it if she learns the truth or Sayaka probably going witch multiple times she probably wrote them off as a lost cause and in turn stopped trying to make a connection with them which makes her look distrustful.

She's basically:
*Homura tell the truth *
Sayaka: nah, liar, that's stupid I won't believe that
Another timeline
*Homura do not tell the truth *
Sayaka: Hey why you haven't told anything? Are you evil?
Fck 0ff Sayaka.

no, i’m mad bc sayaka is a bitch
dramatic irony, its great. i just dont like how people tend to blame only sayaka
Homura def knew that sayaka would just keep rejecting her she left Sayaka with her fate. sayaka couldnt have been saved 😭

Sayaka never wins, either. She canonically dies in every timeline she contracts.
(Maybe i'm weird). Also Sayaka always had issues with Homura. She can't do shit without Sayaka yelling at her. Homura is trying to help out with battle when all of a sudden "STOP USING BOMBS". Like Madoka is using a magic bow and Mami is using a magic gun but now all of a sudden using bombs is too much? She also doesn't listen to anybody. I haven't watched much yet)
Hell, she even throws her swords for a ranged attack instead of pulling the very obvious trigger-looking thing on her own weapon.

Okay I see where you're coming from, but Sayaka and Madoka have been friends since kindergarten (It was revealed in "The Different Story" manga spin off which IS canon.)
No wonder she saw Sayaka as a lost cause.
Sayaka was very emotional to begin with, where Homura tended to think things trough (or sometimes over think). Learning the truth about magical girls however sent Sayaka spiraling into despair and madness. The only one less stable was Mami (and we know what happens when SHE finds out the truth).
Sayaka, and mami are destined to turn into witches, go crazy , or die . It's a sad faith that can only be avoided in a small number of timelines
Reminder that Homura and Sayaka are good friends by the end of Magia Record season 2. Homura and Sayaka are also together a surprising amount of times in background shots which is amusing.
Thank goodness it's a spin-off

Also in the mobile game(the original source of magia record)after a beach event,at the end, Sayaka ask her to protect her with Homura wholeheartedly agrees, even though later a shadow of herself tells her that she should just focus on madoka

So they _can_ be friends. That's a relief.
You know, for all the bad she did...at least Sayaka didn't absolutely wig out and kill her friends when she found out they'd become witches.
In fairness: the Oriko manga proves that Mami _doesn’t_ go crazy every time she finds out. In the show, she had to find out after Sayaka transformed and the group was essentially forced to kill their own friend. A quick, merciful death probably DOES look appealing after that.

Reminds me of Deltarune for some reason lol.

And it digust me that people are defending Sayaka for yelling at Moemura for no reasons at all.

I’m glad people still remember Madoka Magica as it’s such a great anime.
People who keep shitting on Homura for her "lack of social skills" seem to forget that she has a very good reason to be like that after what she experienced in the 3rd timeline.

That's because those people are very bias against Homura.
PREACH HOMURA NEEDS MORE FANS!!
@@Tpoob9ndredWhat are you talking about? She is already the most popular character in pmmm.
Plus Homura discovered history doesn't repeat itself but rhymes through iterations. She’s going against predeterminism i.e., fate. She has to strategically choose what she says because it could
possibly lead her down a timeline she already been in.
Plus there’s a time limit when it comes to social reactions, she just can’t stand there and think of a good response. So the best option is remain mute and interfere with fate through actions which she does but it only freaks people out because well she’s not normal compared the rest of them. They can sense that something is off about her.
Before she gave up on everything, she gave up on sayaka very first
Side note, it's quite amazing seeing how much the animation has grown over the years. The lines, colours and rendering are super crisp in Magia Record!
I appreciate that both Homura and Sayaka are 'right' at the end of rebellion.
makes me think a lot and i like stuff like that.
The only time Sayaka listens is in magia record when she accidentally finds out about homuras power
Even if Kyoko's only in it for the Territory
@@GalaxiaStars i thought madoka turned into one bc kyubey reached put to her the first time
@@GalaxiaStars But that's the thing.
Homura says what she did was only for Madoka, and Sayaka knew, that's one of a reason She didn't accept help
If Sayaka wish to know how Homura dethroned Madokami and become a demon, she has to see it for herself. Because after the number of times she doubts her, she won't tell her anything no matter what.
I swear it feels intentional. Like Sayaka's destined to fall by her own hand, always refusing help XD

@@saparapatepete To be forgotten and to take on all the despair of the girls she saved.
A lot of people call out Sayaka for being irrational, but keep in mind that teenagers aren't exactly known for being logical. That's why Kyubey chooses them for the contract. Because they tend to have strong emotions and act on those feelings instead of thinking things through.
It's also why girls were chosen. If the Incubators made contracts with boys, they could take years before completely snapping, if at all.
@@Shadow_Sonata oh
Agreed
Some of these comments are forgetting a crucial difference:
Homura has known Sayaka for 8 years.

@@docgerbil9309 I didn't know that, so I'll correct my initial comment. Do you know if she also delivered homework for Kyosuke or helped in his therapy?
I never noticed how much the animation has changed, I love it
I don't hate Sayaka, but she definitely has a bad habit of mouthing off without thinking and can be very stubborn when it comes to her ideas of morality. She wants to adapt Mami's morals, but she does so in the most aggressive and reckless manner possible.
I thought this was going to go in the direction of her always becoming a witch at the end of each timeline.
But this also works.

She tired so hard and ppl wondered why she was so cold towards everyone but madoka
Sayaka makes me feel so frustrated. OMG, you explained so clearly why she makes me feel desperate. Aaah 😱😖
True
that because Sayaka in pre -rebellion timeline didn't learn anything about homura yet until Madokami show up to her.
Honestly I wouldn’t blame her she was siding with Kyoko because even she’s nicer to her and treats her like a team mate even in rebellion and she doesn’t want anything bad happening to her.
right like I understand that Sayaka is also a child that's inherently emotional, and doesn't have the advantage of retrospective like Homura, but I often found myself extremely annoyed with her bc she didn't have the basic understanding and compassion that she should've- she didn't once consider that while, yes, she has her own burdens and suffering, other people do as well, and no matter how incompetent you believe them to be, they still deserve the same respect and understanding as any other person
sayaka is def my least fav xharacter
Yeah. I find her insufferable.
Wait, people dislike Sayaka over this??
Gosh, Sayaka's stubborn and judgemental nature will always bother me. It is very easy to hate her. While I don't actually, it's especially in moments like these where I can't stand her.

I love sayaka. Her problem is she doesn't like homura so homuras action or inaction is going to irrationally piss sayaka off lol 🤣
Sayaka is the most judgmental person in the series, and Homura is the most unconcerned.

Simply put, Homura never tried to befriend Sayaka.
I like sayaka 💙but she is énervant and she always hard for homura (homura my best girl 💜💜💜💜🥰)
Thanks for this video, this reminded me why and how much I disliked Sayaka.
I know we only see the few times, and one of those being the start of the timeloops but you can't honestly tell me that after Homura learns ALL of the truth and why Kyubei does what he does that the 3 girls don't honestly go "oh actually, you know what... makes sense."
Shows how much restraint Homura has... I would have shot Sayaka offscreen day 1 of the time loop!
Eri Kitamura and Cristina Vee in one video, I love it!
She becomes so damn irrational and blind when she starts spiraling down... I love her.
👁️👄👁️: Tell me about where did she get the weapons
where are the scenes with Sayaka accusing Homura of laughing at them/telling her she's gonna get Madoka killed from? I don't remember them and idk if I just wasn't paying attention when watching the series or if these are from something else like Record (which I haven't seen yet)
They are from Magia Record season 2 episode 1, so you didn't miss them, just haven't seen them yet.
