  • Have you always been wondering how to measure and set the tension of your bobbins and thread on your embroidery machine? This digital tension meter allows measuring the tension of bobbins and upper thread. The tension measurement does not only work on ZSK, but also on Barudan, Tajima, Melco, Happy, etc. embroidery machines. Please contact ZSK at zsk@zsk.com if you are interested in this device.
Problems associated with Bobbin thread tension:
    1. Nesting of bobbin thread underneath the design
    2. Visibility of bobbin thread on the design
    3. Poor design quality
Problems associated with the tension of the top thread
    1. Looping in the design
    2. Thread breakage
    3. Puckering
    4. Visibility of top thread on the back of the design
Bobbin Case Digital Tension Gauge measures the tension of the bobbin case and of the top thread of the machine.
This product helps you to analyze the problems faced by an embroiderer due to incorrect tension of the thread.
    Tips from ZSK STICKMASCHINEN
*The preferred bobbin thread tension should be between 25-35gF (1gF=9.80665mN)
*To achieve a good result with the embroidery design, the ration between the top thread and the bobbin thread should be 2:1

The method to measure the tension of top thread is not correct. Please read the manual.

Hello Lucy, when it comes to thread tension, parameters such as material, needle, machine - to name just a few - are always taken into account. There is probably no standard setting for this ...

Hello ether. . .is anybody out there?
I have a Janome Mb4s and an Elna 940 Embroidery machine, and I am trying to find a tension gauge that will work for my bobbin case. I have Jumbo bobbins. I was told I need the L-style Towa gauge, but I got it and it does not fit my case. So, I bought a digital gauge, and both adapters just in case, and neither fit. Is there anyone reading this who can tell me what tension gauge will work for me? I used the digital one, and I know it isn't working because it gave me a reading of 22 g (about where I wanted to be), but I know it is WAY off, because it wouldn't pass the yo-yo test. It was so lose I couldn't even pick it up. Conversely, I have another bobbin case I was trying to adjust, and it was exceptionally tight, and the reading was in range. My bobbin case is just shy of locking in place on the digital gauge, it's a bit too narrow for the M style and won't fit on the post of the L-style. I am using it correctly, but it clearly doesn't fit in the case. The Tajima gauge though. . .that one is anyone's guess. I can't seem to master that one at all. Help, help help! I'm in tensuon hell!

      Hello Smart Alix,
unfortunately we cannot help here. What does the manufacturer of the bobbins say? They probably should know ...

I am able to read both bobbin and top thread tension with this device. I’m not familiar with jumbo bobbins but if it is significantly heavier, it may not pass the yo yo test. Even with the correct tension. Just my 2 cents.
