Yes! Can't wait for this remake! Speaking of dark games, there is one i played made by the same guy who made pony island and is now one of my favorite games this year called "the hex"! I shall not spoil anything about it, cause i am a good man! All i will tell you is that 6 characters from 6 video games are at a inn, the manager gets a call, there is going to be a murder soon. When is the murder and who is going to kill who? That's what you need to figure out by learning about the 6 characters each with their own backstory. Each backstory has a different gameplay style depending on what game genre that character came from, like platforming, fighting, RPG, etc. The reason for why it's one of my favorite games this year and one of the darkest games i had played must be seen for yourself.
Combining Fran and Alice in one number makes sense; same universe and all. Fran mentions her friend Alice and her stories of a magical land at one point.
I like that TBOI and Danganronpa are in here, but I also had hoped for DDLC, and while I didnt even though It was going to be here, because is a game not many people outside Korea (were It is from) know It, Lobotomy corporation is pretty good and somewhat disturbing

It’s not anywhere near as dark as any of the games on the list, but Phoenix Wright Spirit of Justice surprised me with how dark it is. Here’s why (spoilers ahead): - -Phoenix (or any defense attorney in Kur’ain) is risking his own life by defending his clients -The villain from Case 2 killed an innocent man and tried to put the Wright Anything Agency out of business because of an accident that happened ten years prior -A man committed suicide to protect his wife from being found guilty of murder -Kur’ain’s court system is downright corrupt -Queen Gaa’ran faked the murder of her own sister in (what I assume is) an attempt to usurp the throne I still haven’t finished of the game (I’m near the end of the day 2 investigation in case 4), so I’ll update this comment after I finish the game)
To me at least, the darkest video game I’ve ever played in Half-Life 2: Episode 2. The stakes are much larger, there’s more tension, the enemies are terrifying, the dystopian world that the ga,e takes place in, and that ending...OH GOD THAT ENDING!
I don’t think the Russian roulette minigame in LISA was that bad to be honest. I just threw the party members I wasn’t using or actively disliked under the bus, which worked pretty well for me. If everything went poorly, I just reset to keep my active party alive. Maybe that could work for you?

Alice in wonderland makes me think of 2 things. One, a world were eating or drinking grows or shrinks you, allowing you to devour or be devoured by who ever ate or drank while in wonderland. Two, an extremely dark and psychotic world where logic is dead in all ways possible or impossible.
I’d say the darkest game I’ve heard of is Berserk and the band of the hawk. Haven’t played it, but knowing the storyline it’s based off of, it’d be perfect for this list. You should check it out, it’s on steam.

Okay Love Nikki would have been an honorable mention on my list beaches under the cute dress up game atmosphere there is a ton of death. Bobos dad gets shot in front of her when she was 13, Orlando's bestfriend was shot in front of him, Lunar is stabbed by Nidhogg, there's a war happening, Yvettes mom died, Kimi's dad died or mom died (i forget which) Bobo gets corrupted even though shes saved its still dark. My personal favorite example is one of the suits that has super dark descriptions that imply that this witch/guard was brutally murdered and then risen from the death. She went back to where she died and tried to put herself back together.
Spec ops the line is especially dark to me, because of how the tragedy of it all insidiously creeps through the game. From the surface it looks no more gritty then the average Call of Duty. However as you follow through on the main characters spiral into madness- as his excuses for what he’s done collapses down around him. It’s narrative so refreshingly blunt on war, that no matter what you did you are not the good guy. There’s no happy end and there’s no going back.

Okay, so, this video intrigued me so damn much, I bought Alice: Madness Returns. I not only played the game, but I’m nearly 100 completed (every collectible) the game. For those who don’t know, this user made another video mentioning this game, and he wanted to tell what the bad guy did, but CENSORED it. At that rate, I just had to play it. I love games that talk about mental health, especially PTSD. I won’t spoil it, but hot damn, that game in my opinion is the darkest game
