This is some pretty intense drumming that Joe Volk makes look easy. I have been trying to learn his version for 2 years and still struggle. Perfectly played!!
Not always like that bro, It also depends on the genre of music being played... there are times when the drummer serves the vocalist with simple playing, but if it's in the gospel music genre like Israel Houghton and the like... the drummer will definitely serve the song with his distinctive chops.
the last time i listened to this song was im struggling with my life, full of rejections, fear to lose my Job, and frustrations. Now God has given me more than enough that i can ask for.He will leave the 99 sheeps just to chase and save the one. Dont ever question the Reckless love of God. ❤️
Danke für dieses wunderbare Lied! Wir haben es heute im Gottesdienst unserer Freien evangelischen Gemeinde gesungen, mit fetten Schlagzeug und Super-Klaviersound in höherer Tonlage. Sensationell. Gott ist groß. God bless you!
Basic until you understand he's playing a correct 6/8 beat on a assumed 4/4 signature. Super off beat when played in 6/8 for a drummer. Takes super concentration.
I'm FASCINATED by Joe's drumming every time I listen to this .... simply FABULOUS ❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥🔥😇😇😇 HE SLAYS IT & Sooooo Anointed and the Vocals are STUNNING ❤❤❤❤❤
Really appreciate you sharing this video. This version of the song is something I needed to learn for church and it was perfect to practice to. Amazing job!!! Extremely helpful!!! Thank you God Bless!!
U r such an AMAZING Drummer!!!! WOW.......WOW...WOW...... DYNAMITE!!!! Just staring at da screen n smiling n being in AWE n praying I'll be as good ...:)
Talking about that snare sound, some tips I could give from experience would be to use and expander, with some release, gate, heaps of EQs, double compression(second should be softer, to smooth up abit) then gain staging, in that order; this should be mostly for snare top, snare bot shouldn’t take much apart from some EQ, and phase inverting, ive noticed that inverting one side of the phase gives off a nice sort of stereo sound to the snare, try it. Also, parallel compression helps the drums to cut through the mix better, and If you like your sound but its just not where you want it to be, samples can be used to fill abit of the sound but not lead the sound. Bus the snare top and bottom to its own bus, bus the toms and overheads on their own, one bus for toms, another for overheads, and send those two busses along with the kick to another big bus (Drum with no SD) , and send the snare bus and Drum with no SD bus to another bus which should be your full drum bus. Out of the snare bus, send alot of it to the parallel bus, and a good amount from the drum no SD but abit under the amount of snare being sent to the parallel bus. In reverb, i recommend the Raum reverb from Native instruments, its free and amazing, i made a good present that sounds phenomenal on the drums and mostly snare. dedicate a reverb to the snare alone, and some reverbs for the drum overall. This is something I have found from constant experimentation to get a sound sort of like this videos and all the drum sounds ranging from Hillsong, to bethel, to elevation worship. Hope this helps someone!
@@trextonhaldeman323 I actually had the idea, hopefully I can find out how I would set up such a video! I want to do videos like that to help people who are starting, showing them what I used to do and how I do it now, in regards to mixing, and even for using mainstage and covering synth sounds
@@trextonhaldeman323 also, if you want a little more smack, you can setup ANOTHER snare parallel compression bus that cuts of alot of low end and boosts some mid highs for where the transient is and lower the sound of that bus to where it works but you cant hear
Let’s talk about that snare sound!
I wish I could get that sound !!
So good 🙌🏻🙌🏻

14 X 8 Black Magic?
A true pro doesn't have to show off with fancy fills, but keeps it simple which compliments the song and the band well! Great job!
yup..

The groove! Give me the groove. Then let the rest of the band hop on the train for ride.
props to who ever mixed, it sounds good
The mix is other-worldly...
am i the only one who felt goosebumps by the the last verse!! 😭😭
feel so grateful that we can use our sticks to lift Him high!!
YESSSS! Love this and amen :)
Amen, Beautiful words
Absolutely! God is awesome and I am so thankful He chose little ol me to be one of the many to praise Him on the High Sounding Cymbals!
That is the Holy Spirit my brother.
I’m a drummer just coming to review some stuff and got caught up in worship for a moment lol
Cory’s vocals at 3:56 🔥🔥🔥
Didn't catch it until you pointed it out.. then I repeated that run like 10x
I’ve literally watched this video dozens of times now and it never gets old!!!!!

That build up on 2:57 needs to be learned by every drummer of this genre.
almost 3 years later and I still listen to this every day
Joe Volk is the GOAT. Those left foot hi hat 16ths at 1:32, and the single arm fill at 4:32.
The kit, the tuning, the groove. Yeah, if I can get halfway there we'll be in good shape...Joe sir, truly great.
those cymbals are like butterrrrr
Ryan Shane just commented this haha. thought the same thing

Ja nice
those drums are the bread and the cymbals are the butter 🤤
Lovely song. The subdued passion in the percussion does not go unnoticed.
Really helpful stuff. The album uses brushes, so I like seeing how drummer handle that beginning part
U Christian? If you are good
OMG THAT SNARE 🤤😍👌🏻
That left foot on that instrumental after the first chorus man. Amazing
I’m in awwwww of the washy cymbals and the low end of your drums man!! Literally the most perfect sound.
That's so powerful drums!!!! The best version! I'm "stuck" in this performance!!!
5:12 wowww 👏👏👏💥💥🔥
JOe's left foot independence is so good that the whole drum stage is shaking!!
I wish they showed his left foot in this!!!
This video brought so much clarity to the song
Cory’s vocals really sink the words in! This is my favorite worship song probably ever!
This is so solid
i love how his set is so basic
