Outstanding workmanship on your cabinets, Love the design, Simple but yet a historic style look to it. Felt like stepping back in time when settlers made use of the natural resources that were available.

I am currently designing my gear room. We have a ton of hobbies, so I am planning how to best utilize space while making it look classic and amazing. My husband and I both agreed your cabinets/gear room would be our inspiration. I had the same idea for a gun safe as well. I’ll be saving this video and referencing back to it. Thanks for sharing!

As a Finish Carpenter, & Builder myself. I appreciate your design & work. Ultimately for me “Form follows function”. And that is where my comments comes from.
Take this as constructive criticism:
-While the look of re-purposed wood (esp materials with history to it) is very appealing! Although, smoother surfaces are significantly easier to keep clean & to clean after muddy equipment comes home.
-As well, I struggle to get long guns out of my safe now, without bumping them into each other. I wouldn’t want to add more doors to my struggle. I would have used a pocket door, if space would have allowed.
-It seems to me this space honestly is more of a “drop-zone” than equipment room. I feel a fully dedicated room to accommodate the ever growing amount of equipment I seem to have, would be better suited.
-As with the cabinet construction material. The flooring seems like it would be difficult to maintain. As my Wife over-ruled me on, during our last personal home build. The split slate is very cool looking tile. But in Iowa, March is a bad time to have a Versatile dog gunning across it with muddy paws. We opted for smoother (easier to clean) ceramic tile with colors mimicking slate.
Overall, I appreciate a number of the things done here. Keep up the good work in Big Sky Country.

Thank you for the comments and I always say, any comment is a good comment. You definitely know the ins and outs of the gear room and the materials chosen. Though it’s not easy to maintain, it does have the look and texture to it and don’t really mind the cleaning, adds soul to it. Our next one will be twice the size and maybe out of quartered white oak and still use the steel accents on the tops. Think that could look classic

I'm building a room like this in the basement how would you hide your hunting wwpons without going out and buying a safe and would you put carpet in it having a basement cement
First, thank you and second, I would definitely build a safe into it for two reasons. The first is security and second fire. They have a couple hour burn rate so you can use it to store documents and valuables. Only problem with carpet is gun oils and barrel cleaners getting on it. Acid stain the concrete and use area rugs, looks great!
Jody, is that all rough sawn antique heart pine or is there some oak in there too ?
Good question, all southern yellow pine. It does have a quarter sawn look to it
