She was on my list as a young teenager in the 70s along with Olivia Newton John and Nicolette Larson . Such a beautiful woman and song.

Like many many many others of that era she got her start with Leon Russell. She was his girlfriend during his and Joe Cocker's "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" recording and touring period.
Leon wrote the much covered and revered "A Song For You" for miss Rita and "Delta Lady".
I guess she was the American Patty Boyd-the other faced that launched a thousand songs.

I was 13-14 years old. I was discovering music and girls in junior high school. I remember being captivated by this song in so many ways. I’d slow dance with someone at our school dances to this song. Heart racing and butterflies in my stomach. It was amazing.

Boz Scaggs originally wrote the song for his 1976 album "Silk Degrees" as a B-side to his single "Lido Shuffle". That same year, Frankie Valli did a cover, followed by covers from Johnny Mathis and Rita Coolidge both in 1977. In Australia, Scagg's version was re-released as a single, this being the only instance of his version charting.
One of my favourites, and a production where everything came together perfectly. What do you think of the Boz Scaggs original? He doesn't have the greatest voice, but there is a certain charm to it.
