The Deegans CALLS OUT the moto media! 🤯 The honest truth about having character in the sport!

  • Haiden Deegan had one of the most incredible rookie seasons in memory, culminating in the inaugural SMX Playoff Champion just a few weeks again at the iconic LA Coliseum. We managed to organize a quick sit down with Haiden and Brian Deegan in the aftermath of the historic win in the original Mulisha Compound in Temecula's wine country.
    Do you think Haiden Deegan gets a bad wrap from the moto media? 👇

    I agree with the message. But, I have a hard time accepting the source. AP7 is my guy and I love his interviews and when head on the podium. The Deegans are a brand, the Kardashians of MX and and Supercross. Moto needs to be unique among the motorsports brands. Let the riders show their true selves. Variety is the spice of life.

      Yes but the real mission is to grow the sport. Who do you think brings more eyes to the sport, Deegan or Ples? I'm with you on Plessenger he's one of my favorites. But believe me when I say this sport is always in danger of going away! I live rite down the road from Washougal track and neighbors are always trying to get it shut down due to noise or traffic for one weekend a year. I'm sure other tracks have same problem, then you got the tree huggers who say it's too dangerous and pollutes the air! The fact is Deegans antics bring thousands of new eyes and support to the sport and make it that much harder to sweep under the rug!

    Being a character and having character are two different things. Yes the sport needs personalities for the fans to relate to but respect should still be shown towards competitors and the opportunities you have. Also a little humbleness goes a long way.

      you're so right, all the stuff he did, like showing his middle finger to the pile up in Detroit, or complaining with hammaker, that's just making his character look bad, obviously his personality is something a lot of people can relate to, that's why he has such a fan base, but all the shit he does is not helping his personality to look good

      Sadly most people of any age don't care about character which is why the most exalted people in society are dirtballs. Sponsors care about popularity from a couple of angles but most people only think about one of them. The obvious one is the sheer number of fans that a personality has and the more overlooked one is the number of people who can't stand that same personality. Most sponsors don't want a polarizing figure. Having a million hardcore supporters isn't worth as much if the same person also has 2 million hardcore detractors. The best case for sponsors is to find someone who's very popular but also doesn't spark much animosity among non-fans. Travis Pastrana is a good example since very few dislike him even if they aren't big fans.

    This all came out with the ‘beef’ with Pastrana… who was actually the only one being himself!

      It shouldn't be up to the moto media to decide for the fans of the sport whether a rider is mundane, robotic and giving canned answers to every podium interview or if their personality is good, bad, too big, fabricated or genuine.
      Really,..think about how absurd this notion sounds.

    • @Mockle07
      @Mockle07 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@stricknine8623 It’s not “up to them”, they simply have opinions about riders’ actions just like you and I do.
      The “moto media” is not one central thing either, plenty of the moto outlets are pro Deegan. This is just Brian being Brian; “We’re so edgy and raw, the mainstream can’t handle us man, they just want to keep us in a box but we won’t be caged 🤘🏻” etc.
      🙄 Yeah alright mate.

      @stricknine8623 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Mockle07 I wrote,..."it shouldn't be up to the moto media"
      This means I think that people that are in a position to be stewards of the sport should keep their mouths shut about whether they think that a person's candor or personality is sincere or not. It's another one of those opinion things that I'm exercising here.
      That sort of middle-school drivel and guessing games should be left up to the fans.
      If you don't understand that the media (and fans) are either complaining about a robotic, mundane personality with canned answers to interview questions or complaining about a rider not having enough decorum or professionalism,...then you are not being honest or you just don't pay attention. Its not a matter of opinion its an objective reality.

No... no you didn't because all anyone in the "moto media" talks about is the guy in 4th place....4th-f'ing-place... Sports evolve and times change. Many sponsors are no longer willing to support an athlete that exhibits consistently reckless and brash behavior... it's just unprofessional. I am not talking about Haiden specifically. I'm talking about motocross and supercross, and to a lesser degree the entire motorsports industry. Jason Lawrence, Vince Friese, Justin Barcia and the entire Alessi family are great examples of behavior that is no longer tolerated, and this is for the best. (Remember Tony Stewart's NASCAR sponsorship by Home Depot? They threatened to pull their support if he did not change his super aggressive behavior -- he was not representing their values or doing their image any good.) Sometimes I think the FIA goes too far, but there will always be disagreement about proper interpretation and application of the rules... at least the FIA is doing their best to respond to legitimate incidents instead of doing nothing as in the past. Having said all that, I strongly support riders who represent our sport really well: Ryan Dungey, Eli Tomac and Ken Roczen to name a few.

Which one of these characters are they speaking of. They have no respect for anyone but want people to respect them, not how it works in this sport. I know the sippy cup cult kids are going to be saying haiden is an innovator in the sport, no no he’s not children at this point he’s a shit stain in the sport, James Stewart even said Deegan acts like he all this credit from the sport but has done nothing to deserve it. Yes they are great athletes and regardless to the "good cop bad cop" they would have made money but when you thing back to 90s early 2000 freestyle you remember the all American kid and the rebel. He is saying that when you have someone with a non-robotic personality, DO NOT try to kill that by telling them to stop or reigning it in.
      Especially when you constantly hear people complain about mundane, robotic and canned podium interviews from riders.
