    Hi graham, nice little demonstration of the tent, I see what you mean about me needing the x/l if I want the mesh tent, all the dd hammock stuff seems well made, soggy wet ground would be an issue with the hole, just stick a plastic bag under the tent then spear it with the pole, minimal hole left for water,
    Keep em coming

      Hi Adrian, yeah, if you're thinking of getting one I'd def go for the XL. It's a great bit of kit especially for woodland camping as it's so flexible, use with a tarp over the top etc. Good idea about the plastic bag 👍👍

    I have. I use fly only. Good in wind. If you're over 5ft 4inch it's too small. Main problem is that it has to be pitched on flat ground otherwise two corners sag. Adjusting the pole height does not rectify this problem.
    Did not leal in heavy rain.

      Agree, tall folk are better off using the XL size. I’m about 5 6’ and it’s just about ok for me. Otherwise quite a good tent

    Great post mate, thanks for doing this. Not sure about the flapping in the wind, personally. Interesting lightweight option though.

    The tarp ideally would be set up first especially in rainy conditions and that for me is the issue with this system. I wonder if there is a way to preattach the mesh inner to the tarp. Maybe something to try as an experiment.

    • @grahamswildcamping
      @grahamswildcamping  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I agree, setting up the tarp first would be much better especially for U.K. weather. You can attach the centre mesh to the centre tarp but it’s still pretty fiddly and takes longer to set up than a proper ‘pitch all in one’ design. Many thanks for watching 👍

    My mate Andy used one on Saturday, looks good quality but too small for me, not sure about the hole in the floor I think it would leak in heavy rain, slightly bigger and a solid floor would do the trick

    • @grahamswildcamping
      @grahamswildcamping  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup. Unless your my height, the XL size would be much better. I’m quite suspicious of the hole in the floor as well but tbf I’m only going to be using this as a good weather summer tent. Cheers Mark 👍

    Hi buddy. That 15kph windspeed your anemometer was giving you looks like a helluvan under-read, judging from the way that webbing strap was streaming in the wind. 15kph is only 9mph which is only a very light breeze.
    Thanks for the review tho : it does show that in some circumstances pitching can be a bit of a faff if your site options are limited.
    I note that DD Hammocks have only done half a job, as with their other lightweight back-packing tents, in that there appears to be no way of pitching inner and outer as one, which in my experience of our mischievous UK weather conditions is a serious flaw.
    It's Almost as though no one at DD has ever glanced out of the office window often enough to notice that rain, including the sideways stuff is a fairly frequent occurrence, or even possibly hahaha not taken the trouble to field test their designs in real world upland conditions.
    It would not be an unduppotrable cost and weight burden to make the inner and outer connectable and dwould make all their tents more appealing to their intended market, ie back- packers, who almost by definition are out on the trail regardless of rain or shine.
    So, come on DD, pull your fingers out of where ever it is they shouldn't be stuck into and do the job properly, or lose out to the likes of Lanshen etc, who would be only too pleased to wipe you out.

    • @grahamswildcamping
      @grahamswildcamping  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You make a good point. It's easy to pitch either the inner or just the outer separately but pitching them 'as one' isn't really possible, although you could keep them connected by the toggle at the apex, it's not a full solution. If you're pitching them together, best do it when it's not raining, which, as you say, often happens in the UK!
      As for the under-reading on the anemometer, could be, I bought the cheapest one I could- probably not the best policy.
      Thanks for taking the time to comment, ATB, Graham

    Good review. I think I prefer the idea of the solo mesh tent, with the XL tarp tent. Theres no pole going through a floor in that setup, and most gear doesn't need to be inside the mesh so the largw resulting vestibule is fine. A decent and better made alternative to the popular Lanshan I reckon.

    • @grahamswildcamping
      @grahamswildcamping  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah that seems like it would be a more practical option, good idea. What I’ve found out in practice as well is that I prefer the inner mesh tent with an actual tarp over the top either in a classic A-frame or even a plough point. Gives loads of space and 360 degree views. Cheers, Graham 👍

    Flaps like a pigeon in a wheelie bin🤣 I haven’t heard that one before mate. Great review, I’ve been looking at bug nets for under my tarp. I like the look of the DD Superlight A-Frame but it won’t be anytime soon! Cheers Graham👍🏻 atb.

    Interesting review Graham.. I'm looking for something to take with me on st cuthberts way that is lighter than my msr elixir 1. I'm torn between this and the lanshan. I just need something that would do me for a few days long distance and the thought of using one of my trekking poles really appeals. Food for thought thanks for doing this

    • @grahamswildcamping
      @grahamswildcamping  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tough decision, the lanshan looks like a good tent. I like the flexibility of the DD and different ways to configure it and it’s a pretty decent weight for a double skin tent of it’s size but I guess it comes down to the size of the DD. I think from memory you’re slightly taller than me?

      @@grahamswildcamping there are all sorts of issues.
      The outer doesn't fit the inner correctly. If I hadn't bought them both at the same time from DD then I'd swear that they weren't a matched set.
      The material soaks up water almost immediately even in a light shower.
      I've tried hanging both together from a ridge line and also just using a trekking pole and it's impossible to get any tension on the lower part of the outer. I've even measured corner to corner whilst setting it up and nothing works.
      The porch area is almost useless.
      The internal space doesn't work if you're over 6' tall. Nowhere near.
      It's much heavier than advertised. 25% heavier.
      It's meant to be olive green. God knows where DD buy their olives. It's more like holly leaf green.
      I persisted for several trips with the tent and it finally went in the bin on my way back from Kinloch Hourn.
      I've been using a DD 3X3 tarp for a while now and that's great so I am more than disappointed with the pyramid.

    • @grahamswildcamping
      @grahamswildcamping  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@truthteller8567 You raise some pretty good points. What I've found in practice is that I tend to use the mesh inner by itself with a large tarp overhead for summer woodland camping. Used together though the porch area is small as you say and the internal dimensions should be bigger for folk taller than myself. ATB, Graham 👍
