The 3 Magi and their gifts: gold, frankincense and myrrh

The #Magi have always been fascinating and very emblematic figures. In this video we will get to know them, sifting through the little information we possess and analysing the great contribution that #art has made to their representation.
It is the Father of the Church Epiphanius who, in the second half of the 4th century, gives the first account of how the feast of #Epiphany was understood in the East, that is, as a celebration of the coming of the Lord, that is, of his birth and his perfect incarnation. When this feast entered the West it changed its meaning by celebrating the revelation of Jesus to the world. With Epiphany, most Western churches intended to celebrate primarily the arrival of the Magi with the consequent manifestation of Jesus as Lord of all peoples.
Of the four canonical Gospels, only Matthew mentions the Magi.
Matthew's gospel does not record the number of the Magi, let alone their names. Instead, it reports the three gifts: gold, frankincense and myrrh. The Church Fathers, probably referring to the prophet Isaiah, saw in them symbolised royalty (gold), divinity (frankincense), and the Passion of Christ (myrrh).
