In 2023, for the first time, independent music accounted for 50% of Spotify payouts - there are probably many people who, like Nic, successfully play the streaming game and whom we haven't even heard of - it would be great to know their stories and strategies
could you make videos on creating great hooks for tik toks and reels. i have a lot of music and know how to edit videos but its the beginning hook im trying to figure out. also how do i find a hook that feels organic. i’m not trying to force it. ideas, tips, tricks.
I ask artists all the time… how lucky are we to be in a time where you can be a little digital fly on the wall - having access to incredible conversations like this is a game changer! And it’s only available thanks to modern technology + the generosity of creators like Adam willing to put the time & effort into producing this content. There’s never been a better time for artists. Adam, you crushed this one dude, can’t wait to see more!
100% In the past you had no control over your career when starting out. Someone had to grant you an opportunity. Today, you have full control. Sure, the competition is fierce, but you get to choose whether or not your a contender at all.

So happy for a second one . Since I started applying nicks tips in November my numbers on social and streaming have consistently been rising . Absolutely FANTASTIC interview... thanks for dropping this @adam! We're over in Brevard -- we should connect sometime... talk music, marketing and making a difference! :)
We truly live in an amazing era. Almost Anybody can do music from their homes. Access to beats, music equipment, knowledge, marketing. Im truly grateful to live in this era❤
Its nice hearing Nic dive deeper into everything. His story is so unique, it's nice to get as many detail as possible, however small they may be, because we're at a completely different landscape in music that what we were even just a decade ago
Insightful chat with Nic D! His journey blending genres and forging an independent path in music is truly inspiring. It's amazing to see how creativity and business savvy can come together. Loved this deep dive!
Watched this whole thing every single second and listened very carefully. Enjoyed very much. You are two guys I pay attention to and listen to very carefully so when I saw both of you on one video, I had to lock in. Excellent engagement of life experience and knowledge. Very inspiring. I relate to artistry as well as production (producing) so both of your perspectives have always mattered deeply to me. Appreciate you guys. Props!🙌🏾🔥💯🙏🏾
Really excited to hear that you found value in what was said and enjoyed the non educational banter as well. Hoping to do a lot more of these types of videos.
Both of you are inspiring! Videos like this motivate me to keep giving music my all despite many of the decisions being risky. When you discuss most people not wanting to sacrifice small pleasures like fast food, partying etc in order to invest more in their creative work - the voice inside me just shouted "I DO!". It's so strange to start noticing how many super talented and passionate creatives still shy away from making any serious investments or leaps of faith to try and turn that hobby into a career. I don't think people realise you won't make big jumps forward without making bold moves with your level of commitment. I understand many people see it as gambling when the stakes are high, but it seems clear to me now that you've got to invest and believe in your work before anyone else will follow suit.
Great Job! I really appreciated this interview! I have a question for the both of you: I’m planning on releasing a lot of music in swedish AND in english. I plan to promote the swedish music through comedy skits where I’m doing different characters and accents (in swedish). Not sure about the promo for the english music but I’m considering the same thing there, but in english. My questions is: should I do this on separate accounts or on the same account? I’m talking about Spotify BUT more importantly social media accounts. Sidenote here is that a lot of swedes are very good/fluent in english so that won’t be a problem but I’m afraid content in Swedish will be unappealing to people who don’t speak the language? And I’m thinking English subtitles along with Swedish ones will take up too much space in reels/short form content?
When it comes to promoting music in different languages on social media, it's a balancing act. If your Swedish and English music have different audiences or branding, separate accounts may be best. But if you want a unified brand and wider reach, consider subtitles on the same account. Experiment to see what works best for your goals and audience.
My wife’s been listing to his music for a while, but it’s never been my thing (I’m a big country guy), but after this interview, dude’s definitely in my playlist. Which, by the way, goes to further his point about his personal brand
Would you like to see me do more interviews like this? If so, let me know what artists, creators, or entrepreneurs you'd like to see me sit down with.
