I can't believe this is even a question. We need more players who can play like Donny rather than Donny needs to fit in with everyone else.
A player who keeps possession, creates angles to receive the ball, great at one two touch, versatile, good crisp passer.

@@98godofwar I don't wish to sound as if I'm making an excuse however I didn't watch Everton. I know he started in the team, got injured, his partner had a baby I can't say why Lampard didn't play him.
What I do believe however is whether or not he played well for Everton, it wouldn't reflect on how he would play for us. He needs to play with the Sancho's, Ronaldo's, Bruno, Varane etc. He needs to play with consistently with good players. Playing for a relegation side proves nothing, when we know that he can play and perform at the very highest level of European competition.

Donny is a highly intelligent footballer, Ten Hag will know exactly how to play him, a Ballon d'or nominated player, he'll be a huge asset to MUFC under Erik Ten Hag
Tadic and Firmino were well ahead of him in the Ballon d'Or list..... it's not useful as a measure of quality

Hasn’t deserved to play since been here, so he’s all of a sudden going to turn it on now a new manager is here?

What i saw from donny was when he was playing in bruno's position, he often make runs and offered a passing option which other united players ignored time and again, due to bruno undropable position, ole and ralf tried to shoe horn him to be a scott mctominay, donny's best games is playing with mata exchanges 1 touches, hopefully erik will use him properly
People might not like it, but I see our midfield 3 being Donny-FDJ-Fred and our front 3 becomes Bruno-CR7-Sancho. And before you say Bruno ain't got the pace for the wings, Ziyech and Tadic were hardly speed demons at Ajax.
ETH likes a very fluid midfield 3. Donny, Frenkie and Fred can all play 6/8/10 (to varying degrees of success)
Fred will not be the central midfield player he will be a bench player to Bruno, Frenkie and Donny.

I think id like to see bruno in a more attacking role. He just gives the ball away too much in midfield and it hurts my eyes
The stats you use are ridiculous, you say he made 19 appearances. He played 511 minutes in the pl his first season, that's less that 6 games. HE WASNT GIVEN A CHANCE. Sancho played that amount of minutes by september last year and was shocking but was still allowed time to find his feet. Ole should have rested Bruno on occasion and rotated his squad, even KDB doesn't play every min of every game.
And if he really wasn't cutting it in training why block his loan last summer. Honestly if I was a young up and coming player I would avoid united.
Donny van de Beek is not an attacking half he is a central midfield player that can make attacking runs the way Keane and Scholes used to.
In the Dutch 4-3-3 system Donny would play in the central midfield with a De Jong and Fernandes. The system offers defensive and attacking rotations where each player is expected to play the system. Bruno is better than Donny at attacking and Donny is better than Bruno in defensive play. De Jong can do both attacking , defensive and central play as well as Both Donny and Bruno.
The Dutch system is flexible where each player is expected to rotate and the same applies to the front line. And the Defence.
Which is why he started as either a false 9 or 10 in Ten Hag's most successful season with Ajax? Van de Beek just isn't that good. An average player who lacks the physicality needed to play in the premier league

Donny van De Beek was used as a primary number six in the Ten Hag system and Donny was instrumental in the win over Real.
Donny can runny into attack from Midfield but that is not his strength in midfield. There are no proven central midfield players that Utd can go out and easily buy.
How can you say 2nd chance when he wasn't even given a 1st chance. I hope he gets some time now TH is in charge
Even Joe is falling into the trap of judging Donny based on extremes. He doesn’t have to displace Bruno week in week out. But thus far he has played a ridiculously low number of minutes. Is he the saviour? No. But can he be a quality player for us? Yes
Hopefully Donny will be able to show what he's made of next season! He's clearly very clever and technically good although I would like to see him show some fight.

Everyone’s talking about Bruno Fernandes as the 3rd man in a midfield three with de Jong and DVB/someone else…but what if he was the wide man ala tadic role at Ajax? This would leave it open for adding a proper defensive midfielder to DVB and De Jong and still have Bruno on the field
The key attribute ETH looks for in players is that they should be comfortable with the ball in tight spaces. Once you meet that attribute, then you can function in your role, be it defence,mid or attack. This is why he can have a 5ft10 central defender
I don't see McFred fitting this profile. They will improve but will likely be squad players

The last few seasons, ETH has put his creative outlet (Tadic) on the wing, so I could see Bruno played on the wing occasionally, in which case VDB would play as the 10.
Tadic was also used as a false 9 as well, so if we don't sign a striker as proper backup for Ronaldo, I could see Bruno at times playing as a false 9 as well. 🤔
You don’t become a bad player over night. Ole & then Ralf were incapable of using him properly. Shame on Ole primarily. I’ve got no doubt Ten Hag will get the best out of him again.

To me it's more about Donny coming in and being the ETH type of player for ETH philosophy.... If we dont get DeJong then at least we will have one player jn the engin room who knows what the magaer wants... Hopefully Donny can help Fred develop better... All things considered; Fred did show glimpses of excellence in many games last season...
Don’t understand his whole “donny showed nothing” angle. In his first early appearances he was good, bagged us a winning goal, always showed fight and some crisp passing bar one Leicester game which was practically a dead rubber. He had very few chances, usually coming on with 10 minutes or less to go.

Who’s fault is it that his output is lower at United? Let’s be honest, ole played him too deep and seldom trusted him. Furthermore his midfield partners were not on the same footballing level (Scott). If we get FDJ, we will see a difference with our players.
People forget the the watford game when he played very good....we ended getting spanked 4-1 but he came on and we played much better....and he scored
I don't think I ever saw Donny as a complete creative mid or defensive mid. His strengths come from arriving late in the box as a slightly deeper shadow striker role. Allowing him to make quick touches around the congested box.
Joe your a legend of the channel mate and normally agree with you on most things but your discrediting of Donny is unfair . You can not use his time at United as a fair metric against other players or his time at Ajax . He’s played the occasional game a lot of the time 5/10 min off the bench as a cm you need a consistent run in the team in order to show your true quality and display the attributes you have with the players around you . Comparing him to Bruno is unfair we’ve played with no structure for years pass the ball to Bruno and hope he can do something granted he’s returned some good number in that time but the wheels fell off that pretty quickly as opponents figured out how to stop that . Played in a more structured system under Ten Haag I think you will come to see they will have similar outputs . No Donny isn’t the answer to all our problems but there’s a dam good player in there and hopefully we will see this next season .
donny had a habit of making late runs into the box or space in between the lines and scoring goals at ajax.. we went for him because of his goals from midfield... but bruno's production is almost rooney level, hard to drop that kind of production. donny wont be scoring from deep unless he gets a run of games and gets comfortable with the team and the system and given the freedom to make runs into the box

Donny has quite a bit more to offer than what he was allowed to show previously. Our previous managers didn't make maximum use of his skillset.

If United were to buy 4 players this summer, CM,CB,CDM,CF for all around £40m - £50m each we’d be spending £160m - £200m in one transfer window without even letting the manager in the door to use the players he’s got. Compared to that Ajax team i’d say United has 2x more talent than that Ajax squad, just need the right man to bring it out in them, hopefully Ten Hag is the man to do it

A Bruno, Donnie, Frenkie midfield would be great as a 6,8,8 midfield. Fred and McTominay are good 8's and offer options for rotation. Garner would be a good option as a 6/8. The most important is to get a CDM. Frenkie is not a 6 with bite, more like a Carrick and less like Essien. I wish we would go for Kante as our CDM backup if we are able to get Frenkie. Basically what I am trying to say is, our midfield has options,but we need a CDM.

Ole "structure" didn't suit Donny because it was just so juvenile and at Sunday League level. Nobody was crying for Donny to be a messiah but for him to be given a real chance. People pointing to his Everton loan spell and labeling him a flop like Everton had a great tactician or prime Barcelona players is also disingenuous. He went from one shit team with a shit coach to another and was not utilized at all. Enough with slandering him for no good reason. If he plays under Ten Hag and fails then fair enough but the man has never been given a chance to say he didn't shine or isn't as good as another player.
oh, and DVB is twice the player that Bruno is, because HE follows and can meet that gaffer's instructions....that matters more then spur of the moment great moments....

with DVB back, Bruno's days are numbered.....they both occupy the same position, however DVB does offer stability , vision, and Structural integrity to a forward line ....Bruno has lacked the vision, stability, due to a poor defense, a lacked the structural integrity to the forward line , because his ball retention and distribution has be shite this past season.

My biggest frustration with Ole was his treament of Donny, he was utterly clueless on both his skill set and preferred positions, then had the nerve to ruin his career by forcing him to the bench/reserves. So glad he's gone and ETH has arrived instead, could be exactly what both Donny *and* United need.

With a run in the team, starting games not a 2 minute sub at the end, Donny will rightly eject Mctominay from the 11. His football IQ is much higher
The more analysis I see of ETH's game, the more I realise what a shit coach Solskjaer was. We'd have 4 players occupying the backline but all of the would be static. No inward movement to drag a defender, no balls over the top and it was all too slow so that the opposition could read us like a Magazine on the bedside - with a yawn.
You slag Fred but we played better when Fred was running off the ball in and around the box. Fred will be an asset too if used right as he shown toward end of the season.

would love to see Frenkie Nevez Bruno as midfield 3 with Fred Donny and Mctom as back up. But so far this summer our first three starters are Fred Mctom and Bruno.. that's not good enough...maybe for 5th place.

Donny is too clever for the players around him I had the same problem over 50 years ago so I stopped playing football at the age of 15 I was told my thinking is too far ahead of the other players when I had the ball and moved into space.
