As a young brakeman working out of Klamath Falls in 1976, I was called to work a 7-day vacancy on the SP's Lakeview Local in Alturas. We made two trips to Lakeview that week while the rest of the time was spent between Likely and Canby at various mills. Repeating myself from my comment on the Modoc Line, I've worked all over in the woods around Lakeview too, and it's an amazing little town full of hardworking, independent, zero-bullshit people. Oh my gosh, I miss eastern Oregon so much! Thanks again for your videos, Dan!

I really like the way you compose the scenes with your drone. I've been a hobbyist photographer for 60 years and notice good composition. This is an interesting semi-arid area I once studied for a model railroad, called the Silverlake. I've flown over this area a few times but you can't really see the details of the topography from seven miles up. Does Goose Lake ever have water in it?
Thanks! Yeah it is a bit rugged out there. I don't know that the lake does ever have water in it. If memory serves then all the photos I've ever seen it was dry.

Baby tunnel motors on the Lakeview! What time do they typically go on duty, and do they run on particular days during the week? Also, are they using GOOS as their reporting mark now? A lot has changed since I lived in Lakeview.
I believe on duty is 5am or something early and Saturdays they go to Alturas from Lakeview. Sunday they head back to Lakeview and I believe on duty time is the same.

I worked the Modoc Line in 1976 and 1977 Klamath Falls to Wendel. Wonderful memories of operating in dark territory using train orders.

I believe there was more snow out there than normal this season so that's a good question!

I think you could say semi-arid, yes. I do believe the lake is usually dry.

This line is embargoed which means the maximum track speed is 10 MPH
I imagine it's just excepted track like so many other shortlines which is 10mph.

That's a full-grown GP15, not a tunnel motor. GP15s were not intended for tunnels, just EMD's failed attempt to replace GP9s.
@@Greatdome99 Lots of people jokingly call them baby tunnels including myself sometimes. We know they were made for light duty.

Yeah definitely due to track condition. I believe all 10mph but I think I also witnessed some 5mph slow orders out there.

Yeah no kidding! I was definitely tired of the slow chase by the end. It was about a 6 or 7 hours from Lakeview to Alturas.
