That's exactly while I started making videos, to make sure I knew how to put stuff back correctly and to share information about these later XJS's as I was a little frustrated that all the information online was for pre facelift cars!

I just did rear pads and the heads on this caliper pins were a head scratcher. They looked circular and I wasn’t sure if I should pry the boot off or why it wasn’t backing out. I found my T45 bit on a ratchet was perfect, and once they were loosened I just grabbed the edge with needle nose pliers.
If I ever feel like doing rotors or parking brake shoes I’ll come back again to this video for the rest!

Thank you, will be doing a rear brake strip down on my 94 4.0 XJS tomorrow so this is handy to know

Hope your strip down went well! In hindsight I'd just undo the brake hose at the main connection not the caliper.. It's a lot easier than faffing around rotating the caliper haha. Plus I've ended up replacing everything anyway.

How do you know when it’s time to rebuild the IRS?
    Aspiring XJS owner here… 😎

There's no right time particularly, for me this was part of an overall car restore/improvement, which included the front subframe and many other jobs still to complete. I guess if you were to view a car and you see surface rust of the subframes it's a good indicator that they need a strip down. Leaking diffs need the subframe dropping to access as so the older style inboard brakes, to be fair Jaguar designed the IRS to be dropped easily for these very jobs. I will add - if you're "aspiring" to own one of these cars, get one now.. they are still silly affordable, and in my opinion go for a post 1993 facelift, if you want less maintenance, go for the 4 litre straight six as late year as possible. If you want bragging rights, get the V12!
