Taking a closer look at Genyu's actions, i would say he thinks he's the hero. He's loyal to a fault, loves his troops like brothers, and treats his enemies with respect when they show honor. Genyu's not evil, he's just working for the wrong team.

If he's losing, we've seen that he'll injure his current body, then swap bodies with the person he's losing against which is EXTREMELY dishonorable and underhanded.

If you believe you're fighting for good against evil, a pragmatist would absolutely believe that underhanded tactics are valid when all other options are exhausted.
@@CB-141 first, ive seen real heroes in shows or just other stories that use worse deus ex machinas and cheats, lmao. second, during the namek arc, he bodyswaps with goku: a guy who is perfectly okay with biting his opponents numerous times in the series, and tries to do it to vegeta, who is namek-saga vegeta. and the solar flare is basically the dbz equivalent of throwing sand in someones eyes to distract them, and krillin is basically relying on that and destructo disk sneak attacks to contribute by this point. gohan basically relies on his dad to do everything for him aside from anger boosts (which is completely fair cause hes a kid. we shouldnt expect him to be an honorable honed warrior) so id say nail is the only one in the ginyu saga who qualifies as an honorable warrior here by that logic. heck, ginyu's basically just using a biological ability he has to his own advantage, which goku and vegeta had been abusing CONSTANTLY on namek. anyways i think being a parody of heroes in another popular genre is good enough reason to consider ginyu a hero fighting for the wrong side

I mean he KNOWS he is working for Frieza, an evil emperor who wants to rule the entire universe and will take any action to keep himself at the top, even if said actions require to murder half your army because you fear their potential of surpassing you. Hell, before Namek, he was supposed to kill the Yardrats along with the Ginyu Force and take their planet. There’s a reason why they was so feared throughout Frieza’s army.

Well, within the Freeza Force, Ginyu is a hero. Not to mention, the way they wrote him, despite fighting for Freeza and the innate trickiness of his gimmick, he was actually very honourable in battle. So much so he threatened to kill Jeice for trying to gang up on Goku with him. I think it fits Ginyu perfectly.
The Ginyu Force isn’t actually part of Frieza’s empire. They’re just mercenaries that love helping the government. Model citizens of the Frieza Force. Also they originally served under King Cold so the respect transferred to Frieza by default, he never earned it. That’s how loyal they are to the Force. So I agree the theme is perfect for them
