For me Oliver Sykes is the most enjoyable vocalist to listen to. I don't know why, but especially his style during BMTH's "There is a Hell..." and "Sempiternal" era is just so cool. Even nowadays, I've seen them live again in 2018 and 2019, his growls especially still sound absolutely amazing. Hope the band finds a way back to heavier and darker music, and he can find a way to sustain this style without hurting himself :) "Ludens" gave a glimpse of how well their older and their newer style can/could work together.
I couldn't agree more Oli is a genius, one of the most enjoyable vocalists to listen to. I don't think they will return to the darker stuff anytime soon, their new stuff is experimenting with new genres it's great imo.
a pity in 2018-2019 jordan did 80% of screams and high notes :) On recent lives oli was better though
no. they should move to a new style or mix some of them. thats how music works
MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
8:30 me when I try to scream.
Same...all i can do is inhale scream and sometimes it fucks with spelling and pronunciation on some words....;-;
Have you thought about having someone sit in with you during these videos and try to teach them the techniques? I would be interesting to see how you correct them, and mistakes that they make, so we can learn from that. Just an idea, maybe a short series of videos doing something like that? I was just watching your "1. WHERE YOUR VOCAL ENERGY REALLY COMES FROM" and I thought it was helpful seeing you teaching someone directly.
Yes, please please do this. Kinda how they do it for physiotherapy videos, would be massively helpful. Excellent idea
U should review Ronnie Radke of Falling In Reverse. Lil bit of his older stuff and his new stuff😊
This just makes me appreciate Olis voice even more. He's amazing live.
And great video; I'm learning a lot.
This is a great video Chris, I'm a singer with 5 years of experience but I still couldn't figure out what Oli and many other singers do at 12:15, and now finally I'm able to do that thanks to you! Its the kind of distortion I always looked for, and many of my friends have it naturally and after 5 years of trying I thought it was just something genetic.. apparently not! Thanks a lot!
Oil’s vocals live are SICK! Their production is on point and his screams just pierce through to your soul
16:09 When you're listening to metal and suddenly your dad enters the room.
(I'm sorry!)
Im happy to see someone who appreciates his diffrent styles and not just one people give him shit for his voice but he has laryngitis from all that screaming he did in the past
Chris yelling “PISSSSSSSSSS” in falsetto is all i need in life right now
Probably one of the best vocal technique tutorial channels on the internet. For real man. Had the pleasure of going to Melissa Cross in person back in 2005 and I have been searching to find someone who puts out similar information where you're not tearing yourself apart. Thanks for this! It's helping me get my aggressive vocals back after 15 yrs out of the game
4:19 HES GOING EVEN FURTHER BEYOND
My vocal chords snapped and i just let my bandmates sing. I think i finally nailed Olis style of singing !
This video is awesome. You got me nailing the brick by brick by brick line, and throw me to the wolves/throne really well. Your examples and style of coaching us into the pitch/scream is just incredible and always makes so much sense to me. I'm gonna invest in your course. You deserve all the support you can get from the TH-cam community. :) Take care!
Wow you actually made it! I requested this on one of your vids a while back. Thanks for listening!
Oli sykes is wrongfully hated and is extremely underrated. Period..
that man has a beautiful vocal tone, the only problem he keeps on facing is hitting those notes because of his past styles. he knows how to use his voice perfectly.
@@TheCleansingx he definitely can sing live, but it's obvious that he has trouble controlling his voice to hit the notes right enough.
Thank you so much for accepting my request and making this video.♥️thank you
You are absolutely a genius describing how internally our voice works,i just discover how to actuslly use the fslse cords and how thry help to create distortion in uour high notes, cresting thsn agressiveness in your voice, uou really deserve more recognition
This video is FANTASTIC. I've been learning and practicing screams for years and this is BY FAR the most comprehensive video series i've seen on the subject. Keep on man, we all appreciate you greatly!!
I was not expecting a video like this, I like it though
Omg thank you for doing Ludens! I was listening to it this morning and thinking I would love to hear this broken down because there's SO much going on.
How to Scream like Joel Birch from Amity Affliction would be amazing and so would Ahren Stringer, the clean vocalist has such unique cleans.
This helped a ton. I was using too much false chords and not enough compression, and couldn't get a melody going.
Can you do a video on David Draiman from Disturbed? I'm starting to think it's all compression, but I can't do the low notes or even get anywhere near as clean. His voice during interviews are higher pitched and pure, I wonder if it's vocal layering or something, but he did sound of silence live so idk
You're really good at explaining this stuff! I've been able to scream for a good while but it's nice watching your videos knowing I'm doing it right
Awesome vid. Great dissection of technique and sound!
Just saw BMTH live for the first time and they were awesome and really musically inspiring.
Watching this was really helpful for the singing technique.
I've been watching screaming videos for years and I feel like your the only person who's made it make sense
Holy crap dude you have an amazing scream, I am having a ton of difficulty learning this but your tutorials are great.
How to sing like adam gontier🙌👍
I just recently, maybe within the past two days or so, gotten past the hurdle for pitchless fry screams. The way I finally found it was actually to drop the attempts to go so high before engaging distortion. My voice is pretty low, far lower than most of the screamy singers out right now, so I found it at a much lower note before it ever got comfortable.
Thanks so much for doing this one! Love Oli's vocals
At least the title of this Video should be "How to Sing Like Jordan Fish"
But Thanks alot for the great tips and techniques
6:33
When u walk your dog and he's taking too long to find a spot to pee on.
Great vid ! Thank you as always. Oli is my favorite singer next to Chester Bennington. Glad u already made vids on both of then ❤💞
this is gonna get all the views 🔥
I'm very into Oliver's voice lately and Chris Liepe never disappoints! I'd like to see your take on Ronnie from FIR and Heafy from Trivium (I'm thinking Beyond Oblivion era)
You’re amzing dude! Proud to you!
Amazing as always, couldn't do it but doesn't matter, love your content
another great one! Thanks, Chris, this really helps dial into the way he sings!!
There were a couple Moments in the Video where I started laughing like 4:16 but I really enjoyed the Video alot and I learned alot from it thank you Chris keep up the great Job you will blow up soon on TH-cam i'm pretty sure 🤟
you taught me how to scream. love you man!
I've watched this once, I've watched this twice, I've watched this a thousand fucking times
It never ends
It never ends
I think video how to sing like Tyler Carter from issues would be awesome, becose in my option his singing is amazing. Great video by the way.
Dude, I fucking love you so much. It's 6 AM here and I couldn't go to sleep because I was learning so much with you. Hero.
I can't help but laugh when you do the singing because it's so out of left feild but I love it. Great video.
The BEST
Tim McIlrath from Rise Against woud be awesome ! This singer sings actually quite high but he gets this dark timber I cannot find where to place it !
Thanks for all
haha that was quick - You could do 2 videos on Australian band Northlane - old singer (Adrian) - new singer since rot/node (marcus) - I know you will have a lot of fun with the cleans of marcus - but I kinda dare you to try unpack adrians work on singularity if you are able to
Adrian used way more of yelling. Marcus uses fry screams for his screams 100% of the time. You can even see it live, Adrian screamed super loud (if compared to his clean parts) while Marcus screams quieter than his cleans (live). I would say, I like Adrian on screams but Marcus on cleans. I don’t like how Marcus does screams, sounds too poor and quiet and “fake” live
Love you vids Chris. Would love to see a vid on Four Year Strong if possible.
wish i could after watching this. awesome.
i'll try
Been waiting for this one!
My wife just walked In on this with a seriously concerned look on her face... Like wtf are you doing.... Lol no words...
I love your videos and the way you explain. Thank you for your work! 🔥
Good luck
We need that Spencer Sotelo/Periphery video! So much we can learn from him!
Hell yeah wanted this for so long from you!
it seems like you read my mind, Sam Carter and oli Sykes are by far my favorite Vocalists.
Much love Chris!
Can you do a video on Bert McCracken from The Used? One of my favorite vocalists out there, super cinematic and dynamic singing style! 🔥
@@bulletproofprs True lol, but that was from his screaming though. I'm more interested in his style of singing (even if his screams were badass back in the day)! 😊
Add a little boy caricature into your voice and you'll probably land pretty close to Bert. Not meant in a negative way at all -- I love playing around with a Bert-ish sound.
Can you make one about phill bozeman? That would be great
I got pretty close recently by belting high notes with some vocal fry in there, but kind of "freeing up space" for me to access a mix up in that range, at the same time as using a lot of vocal cord compression with that afore mentioned vocal fry, it allowed me to alternate between clean notes and distorted notes using no more than a slight intensity change, then somewhere along the lines it "fell" into false cord instead of vocal fry, kind of like my vocal fry helped me find my false cords xD great videos man! you really know what your talking about, and it was curious to see you recommend similar things!
you're so much help man thnku freakin savior
Perhaps how to sing like Austin Carlile? Kinda the sams concepts as Oli and Sam Carter but he still has one of the best screams in music
Man. I love this but I did laugh cuz I wasn’t expecting the random screaming of “Piss”
Please do a video on how to scream like Ryan Kirby of Fit For A King!
Thanks for clarifying the "heat" sensation.
6:37 hahaha "PIIIISSSS!!!"
😂😂 Great video though
Oliver é um grande produtor disso ninguém pode duvidar. Ainda vai mudar muito o cenário musical futuramente
Chris also is getting better on screaming every video he puts out lol the method works, numbnuts!
It's awesome that week by week you bring analysis of singers that I'm currently studying on my singing classes. And it's kinda creepy 'cause it seems you're following my steps hahaha Just kidding, thanks a lot for that. Your videos are helping me a lot!
I know you mostly bring big and famous singers here but maybe you could make an analysis of Jonny Craig both on Emarosa and solo career. His voice and singing style are great and so different.
Thanks!
holy shit dude, i consider myself like really not much into music at all, but you really make it understandable, even for the one with no grip in this things :D
So cool! Tades Sanville lead singer of Hot Mulligan, that’d be a fun one
Brilliant, insightful and incredibly informative as always Chris! Would love a video on Tim Mcilrath from Rise Against, or Serj Tankian. Would also kill for a video on the type of light growl on top of vocals that Frank Turner has live. It’s something Ben Kowalewicz of Billy Talent, and Billie Joe Armstrong have started doing live as they’ve gotten older too.
Dude this is the video I’ve been looking for. That edge I’ve been trying to reach I could never find but you describe it so well I found it!

I'd actually love to hear explanation of the Stand up and Scream album technique.^^
We NEED a Harry Styles vid!!! I’m in awe of his chesty mix on songs like “Sweet Creature”, “Sign of the Times”, “Adore You”, etc.
You should do a "how to sing like James Hetfield" video. 80s/90a era!
@@rittis013 Yeah he kinda did but not completely. He still has some of it left and I just wonder whar he used to do to create that voice hehe
It’s super easy, just a normal clean voice plus compressed false cords on top giving the subtonal rasp. It’s very close to throat singing in fact and IMO waaaay simpler than fry screams or even proper false cord growls
Genial! Me gusta aunque no hable inglés, he aprendido mucho con tus videos
Denis Stoff Next Pls :D

Greetings from Philippines. Been watching your vids lately. Keep it up! ✌
Once again a great video Chris! Keep it up :)
You just earned a new sub mah dude
Oli is unique. So much difference voices
I would love to see you break down some of those stuff that Kyo does, please :x
I appreciate you doing this for us but I can only imagine sitting outside that room hearing you record this video lol
“ShhhOoWWWWooooOwwww”
Love it man!
I love you for this
Great video! Make this on Spencer Sotelo please 😫🙏🙏💓
Awsome video as usual, keep up the great work Chris you're doing an amazing job ! ;)
I second the recommendation of Ronnie Radke or even Craig Mabbit.
Craig has some of the best sounding vocals in the game and they're, in fact, what got me and I'm sure others into continuing him and his music. He and Ronnie both have a very unique sound to them and their music.
love this. Can you do Johnny from highly suspect.
Another great video! Love that you showed a little bit of their new stuff and old stuff! But I want to talk about the elephant in the room and mention that Oli had "blown out his voice" on a few occasions (bleeding). It's the main reason he doesn't do Harsh vocals as much anymore. And probably the reason you didn't play anything from "suicide season" because you can practically hear Oli destroying his voice!
You're right, he hasn't done his voice any favors... BUT, lots of singers out there get cool sounds AND screw up their voices in the process!! The approach that I take here is to teach you how to achieve this level of grit, aggression, melodic approach and passion AND DO IT THE RIGHT WAY... PAIN AND BLOOD FREE!! :) There's a right and freeing way to do what you hear him doing... even if he himself doesn't actually do it :)
A lot of untrained vocalists have done this such as Tom kiefer from Cinderella and Cory Taylor from slip knot. Chris knows what can hurt your voice trust me and when your seasoned and not necessarily pro trained or clinically trained you can still have great voice. You just need to remember your vocal chords are a muscle and can be pushed too far. So absorb what Chris is saying and don’t ever try screaming without practicing and I suggest working with Chris because if you need instruction you won’t find a better Jedi master
@Trenton Leavitt He trained after he almost blew his voice completely recording Iowa (and he quit drinking). That's why his screams never sounded the same as until 2002, but on the other hand he can do it without bigger strain.
This will outlive Oli Sykes, even in 2008 it was impossible to find a youtube video about him without this exact comment.
Where was the old stuff?
