This video is catered for beginners. This simple maintenance is very easy to do. Imagine how much a shop will charge you to do that. They will use the cheapest filter they have usually. Same goes for oil changes. I do all that myself. Have a happy holidays Chris to you and your family! I hope you take a good rest today.

This guy really didn't want to make that video but I'm very glad he made it anyways. I have probably watched all your videos (it started with the crown vic) and now I have my own car and I'm ready for the first performance mod thanks to you
Watching these videos has opened my eyes to how much we get ripped off at auto shops! I can't believe how simple these fixes are. All the years, time, and money wasted. No more!
I super appreciate the video! Today they quoted me $377 to change my air filter. I’ve never paid so much. Glad to see it’s easy and I can do it myself. Thanks again! 😊
Thank you I touched my car under the hood for the first time ever I put a quart of oil in and changed the air filter and cleaned the mass airflow sensor of my 1998 Ford Explorer sport it was very easy but you gave me the confidence to actually start next up is a super flush of the coolant following your video on it of course
Can you remake this and give visual examples of what should be changed and what is ok? My trans am has an air filter about a year old and the edges of the filter are dark grey-ish but not really sure if that warrants changing or if it can be left alone for another few months. I like how you did the engine coolant vid with that dirty and clean fluids look like, was hoping you could do that for these air intake filters too.
Chris can you maybe make a video on how to progress from little/ easy things to do such as changing a wheel and changing air filters to progress to harder things to do mechanically... Such as steps to take to become better with cars etc, top tips & just how to start confidence building with car maintenance :)
If it was a linginfelter car from the beginning it will be more valuable. If it is a custom engine put in after (not matching numbers) it is only as valuable as someone is willing to pay for it. Dont worry about value, just enjoy it!
Thanks for the video! I’m a 22 y/o female who is going to be attempting to buy and change her own air filter rather than paying $40 for the auto shop to do it
The filter you changed looks pretty good compared to when I changed mine.. I Just changed my air filter along with my oil the other day.. it was basically pitch black
It depends what you do and what car you have. For a daily driver, nothing special car under normal conditions I say why not. If you have an expensive car or a special car or something like that, I get wary but who knows. I am trying this out on my truck and I go offroad. It is similar to a KNN... Who knows lol...
One thing I learned the hard way was to keep the engine air filter clean or it can affect your Mass Air Flow sensor. I use software called Automotive Wolf to monitor all the maintenance on my vehicles and I used to have it set to replace the filter once per year, now I have changed that requirement to every 10000 miles.
dude your videos inspired me to fix my own car, but i have some questions, can you make a video where you explain what everything under the hood is? and my check engine came on with no flash or noise, but when i took it to auto zone the machine popped up with an error. what does that mean? thanks
Great video as always. Lately, I have been binging your work. Not gonna lie though, I was honestly expecting you to say you were gonna hit it with the soap and water, when cleaning out the area haha
I read that K&N filters allow more air (less restricted) but they also allow a lot more dirt into the engine compared to paper or foam filters. I have been using K&N air filters for 16 years on 4 different cars and trucks. I haven’t noticed any problems with them. My main question is wouldn’t the oil filter catch anything the K&N air filter misses? BTW; thanks for making the most helpful videos I have ever seen.
+Ken Mitchell The oil filter will catch stuff that gets by the filter the problem is if it gets in the oil, odds are the damage is done. The debris gets between the piston and cylinder wall and causes microscratches. That being said, under normal driving conditions, just like you, I never had any problems. If you live in a dusty area, it might be better to use a regular paper filter.
I've had a 10% improvement in fuel economy since I changed the very dirty filter and cleaned the MAF sensor in my 2005 Tarago (Previa/Estima) last week. I wish I had done them separately to see which made the bigger difference. Petrol here in Oz is about $2 a litre or over $7 per gallon.
damn, yeah $2.70 here in NZ for regular (2.50aud ish) I am here because my air conditioning doesn't work and I want to replace everything related hopefully until it fixes, if it makes my gas last longer that will be a huge bonus

Hey chris, looking back from now, what would you recommend for a filter. I daily drive my F150 no off roading but i do drive down a dirt road to my home.
hey chris fix when you have a chance, can you make a video on how to do a complete 100% transmission oil change, filter, torque converter & the air cooler oil out. i notice most mechanics only do 40% of the job. oil pan & filter. leaving a lot of old oil behind
ChrisFix It's OK to replace all the fluid. I just do it over several weeks, cycling a couple quarts at a time from the dipstick tube. This way your transmission will shift and react correctly, and run smoother at all operating temperatures.

@ChrisFix will you be making that? I'd love to see it. I have the Outlander SE 2016. Poor gas mileage. Poor acceleration. Current filter is original. 2 years old. Added the K&N cabin filter, iridium spark plugs, transmission oil was changed 2 years ago, muffler was replaced last year. A full tank is giving me half the miles. Added like 6-8 of those fuel cleaners, one seafoam one that you suggested in one of your videos. Going to Jiffy Lube soon to clean the Fuel Injection soon but wanted to see if there's something else I can try. You're the expert, they'll just rip me off.
you should try taking the air intake restrictions so your intake will breathe a lot better and get most the fuel and air mixture burned more efficiently
No idea if you still reply to comments on videos this old, but let's see. I'm looking at those nifty slighty-cone-like cylindrical clamp-on air filters from K&N. A couple people have said they have better airflow than the stock square ones, but more importantly let the engine roar louder. They've also said they don't block dust and dirt as well. In the (paraphrased) words of "Life of Boris" channel, "You are sucking in dust, dirt, your neighbors dog, but you get the VRRRRRRRRRRRR." In addition, the descriptions says that they're apparently washable, which I find really cool if true. For my 2004 Focus, the K&N filter is $40 versus $10 for the square stock one. Thus my questions are: 1. Does better airflow from these improve performance a little bit? I'm not too wrapped up about this but it would be sweet. 2. Do they give a better sound? (Probably my most important question as my car has a great engine noise by default but I feel it could be way better.) 3. Will it let more dirt and dust into the engine? I'm in Arizona where everything is always dusty all the time so this could be a concern. 4. Are they actually washable, and if so, how many times could that be done? In the long run I suppose these could actually be cheaper than the stock ones this way. Thank you very much! I love your videos, or at least the half of them that I've been able to watch so far. There are so many XD I've replaced suspension components and my own brake pads thanks to your walkthroughs, and have decided I want to be a mechanic because I LOVED doing that. :D
dez No problem. When I saw that I was amazed and never used Fram oil filters again. I use Purolator or the stock filter (AC Delco for the Vette and Motocraft for the Truck)
