Haaaaarrrrrrry! No one does the Zombie Jamboree like Harry Belafonte. He makes it topical (totally in the calypso tradition), escalating the stakes from verse to verse. From the woman zombie who doesn't want to behave (more power to her!), to "MIss Brigitte Bardot", to the threat of atomic war. He's a treasure, for sure. You can't go wrong seeking out his music. Great to see him as a youngun.
Magnificent. He used it as a stand on it's own ,as a closer ( one of the great ones ) and as part of the " Please Don't Stop The Carnival " medley.A fabulous and versatile entertainer.
@Saiaton That would not explain the hate mail that poured in to the "Smothers Brothers Show" when, during a duet, Petula Clark touched Harry Belafonte's arm.
@terpsichoreankat Actually, the Star Trek in question, "Plato's Stepchildren", featured Capt. Kirk, (William Shatner), being forced by mind control to kiss Lt. Uhura (Nichelle Nichols). Neither of them were "aliens", but yes, there was a LOT of flack about that!
They had to ruin the audio quality because the audio was causing zombies to rise from their tombs. Harry knows his Santeria and Voodoo; he is too good! Happy Hallowe`en! 😊
was this the original zombie jamoree??? if so i like it, ive heard 3 versions and they all good. i recently heard the rockapella version on newgrounds and got rather obsessed with the song XD
Basia, it was from a December, 1969 european tv show called "Une soiree avec Nana Mouskouri et ses amis", an english, french and german version were produced.
and censorship isnt given much attention since they let nudity and other stuff un censored there. im doing this song in my chorus class and my teacher changed the i dont give a damn part
@Saiaton after germany lost ww2, the whole world has degressed. Germany was a great nation of honor and dignity. Something that is lost to the world now becuse of germanys loss.
Great singing.
Great dancing.
Great song.
Great sneaking in of anti-nuke message.
Great man.
Rest in Power
Yes!

Rest in peace Harry 😢
I only really came here because of Rockapella, but this original version of the song is pretty awesone! This guy can DANCE!
Rest in peace Harry Belafonte 😢❤
One of his best .
A giant of his time.
no wonder this song takes up 17 minutes one side of his Live at the Greek album, those zombie girls are smokin.
@Saiaton That would not explain the hate mail that poured in to the "Smothers Brothers Show" when, during a duet, Petula Clark touched Harry Belafonte's arm.
Was an excellent close .
Rarely used ,later amalgamated into “Carnival Song “
@odavid45 Excelente Harry Belafonte!
Muy lindo espectáculo!
Muchas gracias por comartir!
Gorgeous coreography! jajajajaj
I love it
At 2:06, that girl must have liked having Harry Belafonte touch her feet. Harry was so handsome when he was young and he's still good looking at 82!

Super🍀❤️🌹
hope someone uploads a better quality video...this is such a great video of the time and is great now!!!
Love this vid and love this song
Is anyone else having a problem with the sound? I've watched this before, and it was fine. I'm not having a problem with other clips.
They had to ruin the audio quality because the audio was causing zombies to rise from their tombs. Harry knows his Santeria and Voodoo; he is too good! Happy Hallowe`en! 😊
Nice arrangement and performance of a classic Calypso tune!
It's an interesting intermediate version between the Kingston Trio and Rockapella...and probably a better Calypso pedigree than either.
im so glad watched this
We used to run around in "tummy showers" and "Hip Huggers" all the time in the late 60's. Nobody thought anything of it.
Well...some of us did😄
was this the original zombie jamoree??? if so i like it, ive heard 3 versions and they all good. i recently heard the rockapella version on newgrounds and got rather obsessed with the song XD
@ramnarine9Imp I though it came via the Kingston Trio.. I know on KT's "The Hungry I", they claimed that the song was from Lord Invader from '55
Grew up on this.
Just when one thinks, he cannot surpass himself ... .
Hold a candle? I see what you did there.
13 years before Thriller
Bad recording. I thought there was something wrong with my equipment, until I checked it with something else.
@terpsichoreankat
this is a European production, likely far less regressive than the American culture at the time.
original thriller?
1:56 hot necro foot play. lol
@sandroeleven We did more than that in the 60s.
any idea what program this performance was on? I'm wondering if it's from the US or not...

Thank you! And thanks for uploading -- what a great video.
Can we all have more of this program?
Wish they would turn the lights on.
Although I could pass on the organ intro and the Bardot lyric segment, I love the syncopation of this version!
where is this segment from? does anyone know what year this was?
Did this even chart ?
a zombie jamboree nowadays would be a lady gaga concert
Fire bugs!
I thought it was the jumbie jamboree!
Here I thought it was a Rockapella song!
@gilgamess Thanks for saying that so I didn't have to

This is not what the charmer would have wanted...
@Saiaton after germany lost ww2, the whole world has degressed. Germany was a great nation of honor and dignity. Something that is lost to the world now becuse of germanys loss.
No disrespect intended, but this version cannot hold a candle to Rockapella's version of this song.
