  • A bit long but a scene not often witnessed these days and well worth recording.
The big blue 0-6-0 'Hollybank No3' has not steamed since 2016 and last saw daylight almost 2 years ago when her boiler was returned and dropped back on frames.
    ( as seen here • 'Holly Bank No3' Get's... )
After many dedicated hours work by Mark Sealy & Volunteers this CWR owned resident loco is now ready for steam testing and gaining her 10 year boiler certificate this week.
She just needed to be extricated & moved a mere 50 yards to the steam shed, a simple five minute job without a yard full of rolling stock, loco's and those Pacers to be moved and a general tidy up before a long awaited return to normal services.

Absolutely stunning Brian, these Big Shunts are a wonderful event to capture. They've got an impressive collection of stock there, especially 'Myfanwy' from the ROF at Pembrey. An excellent production, especially the under train clip earlier in the video....Very Best Wishes....Bob.

Certainly an entertaining few hours Bob and well worth the visit. Yes, for a small railway the stock list is quite incredible especially as the majority are all runners. 'Myfanwy' is a little beauty which I knew you would enjoy seeing due to her local history. I really need to stop lying under trains at my age Lol. All the best, Brian.

An interesting video Brian. It only seems like yesterday that scenes like that took place on BR! Not sure I like to see Pacers at Chasewater - or anywhere come to that,, but guess they'll earn a living there. Cheers, Rob

Thanks Rob, I thought it was well worth recording .... Yes, all that buffer clanging loose shunting now a distant memory. Time will tell with the Pacers but I'm sure they will be an asset and appeal to the younger families who support the railway. Cheers, Brian.

I could watch this all day, shunting just seems fascinating to me for some inexplicable reason! Some excellent footage. P.S. any idea how S100's restoration is progressing, it seems to have looked reasonably complete for years?

It was even more entertaining in the distant past with loose & fly shunting but glad you enjoyed my footage of this quite rare sight. As for S100, I think it will still be some time. With the operating season starting and the hard work put in on 'Hollybank' I think there's no real urgency.

Really interesting video, thanks for taking the time to film and edit it. Odd to see Pacers at somewhere like the Chasewater, but they're a part of railway history, like everything else on site, so I'm glad that someone's taken the initiative to save a couple. How many classes of the uninteresting, 'everyday' steam locos were completely scrapped off because of their lack of historical significance? I always thought The Chasewater would make an interesting layout, but that signal box on the Lowmac though, there is something crying out to be modeled!

Thanks Ricky, my pleasure. It seems that a few lines have 'benefitted' from the demise of the Pacers from the network but they will serve a purpose I'm sure. I was on BR when steam was hastily despatched to the torch. It's fortunate that so many were earmarked for preservation thanks to the movement and Dai Woodhams at Barry. Cheers, Brian.
