- If we were looking for closer action in the pre-start, today we got it as the two teams locked horns …in fact, much closer than anyone was comfortable with.

Matt Sheahan's reports have very quickly become my go-to race reviews. No hyperbole just excellent journalism and editing making it so informative for a non-sailor like myself.
I agree with you. Matt Sheahan's coverage has been terrific!
Probably would not be watching the cup if planet sail and mozzy sails weren't doing their superb coverage and analysis.
As a non sailor, I enjoy the analysis of both Mozzy Sails and Planet Sail as well. I would still watch, but would know less about what was going on.
So the Brits provide a decent value to the cup.
Ineos' Inside Tack show they do is great also
Gosh in NZ it'll be absolutely unavoidable as always.
Man that Kiwi boat and crew look good, slick! looking forward to higher winds to see if Ineos can put up a fight, she looked good when it got up the other day, was very impressed with them in the lead up
I’m a Kiwi so go ETNZ but let’s see some close racing!!
Another excellent summary of the day's AC racing.
Britannia chasing and waiting for a TNZ error is ominous
Love these reports and lack of bias.
Dylan fletcher owns that penalty as he helms on that side of the boat. He’s got to defend(turn) way faster given he’s in such a weak port starboard position in the box
Yeah, that turning circle was almost 90 degree turn and they seem to point higber as well. I have a feeling any match racing tacking duels will be playing into the NZ boat design strengths.
This was the design game.
Yeah this is looking more and more like men against boys, hope it changes though.
Rays dig at Sir Ainslie was brilliant! Looking forward to more engagement in the coming days! Go Kiwis
Do you dislike Ben? Is he hated in NZ, or is it just sledging?
@@SuperReasonable I’m not from NZ, but am a Kiwi fan. I enjoyed the dig from Ray!
When did this happen & who's Ray?
All through the Qualifying and LV regatta it was noted that Britannia's Achilles heel was light wind performance. It will be interesting to see them race against TNZ in 12-15 knot range.
Ineos were loving the loop back so they could chase but hadnt prepared themselves for a dial up situation... completely caught out at their own game. They are looking very rattled now.
If you were keeping clear, the diamonds wouldn't have crossed would they? Weird statement by Sir Ben. If the tables were turned he would think it was a great move in the pre-start.
I think Ben needs to go to Specsavers. He seems a little myopic
Yeah, my bs metre was on high alert during that interview. He must have thought he was sailing down the Nile.......
Never turn the table over a Sir!
I think what he meant is that Burling was changing the course as he tried to go deeper
Thanks for the great daily insights. As a Kiwi we really do know that it an't over till the fat lady sings. Pressure on both teams to win the final race, what an event.
ETNZ's automatic/link controlled heal control during manoeuvres seems to be flying under the radar. Love it.
Can you please explain?
pretty sure NZ has the best control systems
@@EnglishLawyer it’s hard to explain, easier if you watch the onboard footage of the race (posted on TH-cam) watch that and pay attention to the heel angles when NZ are going to windward, they have a windward heel, and when they put the board down to tack, the boat instantly heels to leeward and maintains that precise heel angle all the way through the manoeuvre and on the next tack. They do the same with the mast rotation, the board drop triggers the mast to rotate automatically to the new tack position. The mast rotation one is well known, but the heel angle has not been mentioned that I have heard. It’s amazing to see it working from the onboard footage. I assume it’s auto adjusting the foil cant angle and maybe others as well. It’s why they are accelerating faster out of tacks I think.
@@dadcooks1347 Wow! Excellent analysis, thanks.
@@dadcooks1347 Why aren't other teams as smart as some Kiwis from the dark backside of the planet?
The kiwis are better at 1) starting, 2) tacking, 3) upwind, 4) downwind, 5) mark rounding. Unless something dramatic happens this going to be over quickly
Been waiting for your video for hours. Thanks as always. No mention of Ben’s swearing at the TV interviewer on the live feed ?
Yeah strange, in most sports you would be fined $ or other action. Not a great look, but tbh the commentator is not great and is kinda annoying. But still it’s a rough look for the sport
are you referring to steven telling there are positives with Britain speed, then Ben saying to steven "it must be the kiwi inside saying that", and Steven replying "I'll take that on the chin"?
@@roderick167 then a few seconds later he says fudgin anchor😂😂😂
@roderick167 yes, followed by "total (or utter) w@nk3r" on the boat comms before they were cut.
To be fair it sounded like Steve said i “dont” get that feeling coming off uour boat, which i think is how Ben heard it. In actual fact stdve never said “dont” and was meaning to praise Ineos attitude not diss it.
Higher and faster always wins.
ETNZ VMG has always been one of there go to.
I agree with everyone, Great reporting Matt Sheahan, you and your team should be the only ones reporting . Well Done
How could Ainslie say he was keeping clear when TNZ had to take evasive action to avoid a collision??????
American here. That statement did it for me. Not that I was a neutral before but I don't want the Brits to win, not that they would.
Give Nathan Outridge a kiwi passport.
Nathan has been the best addition to ETNZ this cup such a talented skipper and it looks like he fits in nicely the Britts have got a tough job ahead
Emma Outridge, (his wife) is a Kiwi and they have lived in Auckland with their children for a while.
He probably has one as he had to meet the Nationality Rules surrounding the AM Cup and in any event, NZ has the North Island, the South Island and the West Island sometimes called Ozzie (Australia) so all good. LOL
@@EnglishLawyer New Zealand is happy to give Australia Russell Crowe in exchange for Nathan Outridge and Glen Ashby.
@@asterixdogmatix1073 Absolutely! No argument there. NZ would be on the winning side! Glen is a legend. No doubt. The best in the world and Nathan is proving himself
Locked horns and nearly locked foils!
Great breakdown your an interesting man to listen to.
I think the momentum is already well in the Kiwis favour. For all his chat Ainsley looks haunted and rattled. They need to up their game.
Great unbiased informative commentary. Thankyou
As a witness to the 34th America's cup.... it not over until the last race. I'm looking forward to seeing how Team Ineos/Britannia respond to this situation.
So many races to go epic a true test
Its not a new rudder. Tnz have already said it is same rudder.
A rudder is a rudder is a rudder
Sir Ben is rudderless, so to speak.
So much better comments here than the TV glee club. Ineos starts, low wind range are its weak points. Should the weather change then Britannia comes into its own. 2 sec NZ gain on speeding out off jibes is interesting as this all adds up. Ineos gained by a race cancelled a better chance for changes too arrive. Lets hope they get too fire some shots. They have 4 shots left to do so. The Brain trust will be working overtime.
Ask Spithall how he fared against the Kiwis in the pre starts in the last regatta Ben.
How did Spithill do in 2013 against the Kiwis?😂
The Kiwis seem to have a boat that is better set up for the lighter winds that have prevailed in the two days thus far. It would be interesting to see if they can continue to maintain their lead in stronger winds around 15-20 knots, or if Britannia can reverse this trend.
Its pretty interesting given Ineos had a budget 2x that of ETNZ
Pretty interesting given that etnz wrote the rules.
@@LukeDraper-p6u Does the challenger of record not help write the rule?
@@LukeDraper-p6u TNZ and Ineos (Challenger of Record) jointly agreed the rules ...
@@LukeDraper-p6u Tell us you don't understand how the challenger of record and the defender jointly create the rules and protocol without telling us you don't understand how the challenger of record and the defender jointly create the rules and protocol.
@@LukeDraper-p6u The rules are written and agreed to by both defender and challenger of record which, in case you're unaware, is Britannica.
Thank you for your excellent coverage, it’s top-class journalism. The independent commentators like yourself are doing a much better job than the official channels. As a Kiwi, I’m kind of embarrassed by some of our commentary. It’s truly cringeworthy. 🤢
I would watch this gentleman calling a Tiddly-Winks Match.
This is the race committee. We are shortening your comments to two words.
😀
This is the empires: Penalty commentator - give 75 words back!
@peterebel7899 This is the race committee. You have been awarded Sir Ben Ainsley's two words.
Matt always the best thnx; the cup race course has to change ; or we just do 7 starts; there is no way by no passing its a joke the Cup has moved on with the boats but the courses have not, something has to change for the next 38th cup; but up down courses have seen there day.
When the holders can get all the data from the challenge series but the challenger gets zip from the holders must be a huge advantage.
This will be a white wash sadly.
The way the rules favour the holder so much i dont see anyone beating the kiwis for a very long time.
They are calling it close and have to find a solution yes the wind 💨 and tacking settings and technology and design starts are big. As a Kiwi we want the AC again but a competitive series is good for the sport and higher winds no delays but it is part of the Cup
Cheers
Kiwis 🥝 🥝 🥝 🥝 🥝 🥝 🥝 🥝 simply the best 👌 👍...bring it 🏆 home guys 😊
Has Ben not been asked about the wanker comment?
as a kiwi, Bens analysis was spot on
Time to put Giles back on the boat? When he was on last time the chat seemed to have more 'spark'
Given that NZ is clearly the faster boat in these lighter conditions will Ben use the closeness during the pre start and attempt to take out the nz boat.
I suspect that we will see super aggresive prestarts, prestart targeting and intentionally created collisions.
All NZ has to do is keep clear during the prestart. With having the faster boat, it doesn't matter if NZ looses the prestart.
You should check the data mate. It's not the speed difference killing the Brits. It's something much more painful.
Delusional mate. No one is going to try and take out anyone's boat.
Why is there only 6 laps in the final but 8 in the LV final >? Seems very odd.
There is 8 legs, but we’ve only had one at the full 8 because the wind strength has been down in the other two so they were shortened to 6
It ain't comin' 'ome.
It ain't been decided yet. 2013?
@@hogwash1462
It's all over bar the Pommie whining. 🤣👍
NZ appear to have a boat that is about 1.5% faster!
the whole maneuver from entz they change course all the time. And if a right of way boat is changing course it has to give room to keep clear RRS 16.1 And now tell me at which moment entz altered course ?
Wow, what a completely wrong look at the incident. NZ was on starboard, GB was the keep clear boat and did not move nearly quick enough to avoid a collision. NZ had to alter course to keep clear and the boats still got their umpire diamonds hugely overlapped, hence the penalty to GB. This could not have been a more clear cut penalty if you tried. Take your GB biased-glasses off and actually look at the incident again. Nobody believes that NZ was the at-fault boat there.
Be nice to Ben. Don't get him angry.......
What are the odds on a Kiwi whitewash ? Ainslie just hasn't got what is needed.
Kiwis are just better....simple as that.
7 nil incoming?
7 1
Lets be honest, after the LVC Ben thought he was the start box king, then got taken to school...
Im hoping we can get back to some proper saiing, its hardly interesting to watch.
Sadly, I can see a whitewash unless the breeze increases.
Stick it to them boys 🤙🤙🤙🤙🙏🙏🙏🙏
You thought you were keeping clear....cmon Ben...lol
he was on the other side of the fucking sail dude, this one is 100% on his co-helmsman.
@@noone-ld7pt Ben is a has been.
There should have been a penalty on each boat canceling out. Being on starboard tack doesn't allow a boat to alter coarse directly in front of another, becoming dangerously close to a collision. The Kiwis altered course directly in front of GBR - not at all what I would call giving room to keep clear. Simply because there wasn't an actual collision doesn't absolve them completely.
According to international maritime collision avoiding rules:
- when it comes close the right of way boat has to turn in parallel ti the give way boat. This is exactly what the Kiwis did.
Batz Ports
Got to be humble though anything can happen...up etnz blehhhhhhhhhhh 😜
3:50 sorry Ben was at starboard... wow he can telling was no penalty?
Why then sail into penalty, before turning sailing dozens meters straight💁♂️🫣 Ben was to late steering?
Seen long before where kiwis steering sorry.
Im not want blame british but was taking penalty own totally...
Kiwis made taihoro race fit.
Mozzy sail channel telling weeks ago that's kiwis sail trimming is not effective and uses to mutch from cyclists😆.
Kiwis sails and controls is good.
Mozzy channel also telling kiwis foils are not strong enough.
British boat is good but this penalty at pre start showed changing side was to slow.
Settle down and go take your meds.
I do enjoy watching Mozzy. I think he has a good tactical and analytical brain but if what you say is true then he is off target and quite clearly wrong. There is nothing wrong with the Kiwi sail trimming and obviously nothing wrong with their foils.
@@Jasperdog3329 I think you should let @silvius.2 express his opinion. English obviously isn't his first language but he stated his case and he was not rude or derogatory so I don't think your comment was justified. The fact is, Ainslie screwed up and got a penalty.
@@Jasperdog3329 sorry to spoil the party bro but @Silvius.2 is absolutely right!
ETNZ was ''SAILING DOZENS METERS STRAIGHT'' and Ineos had plenty of time to avoid the collision, they were way too slow to react. Your insult was uncalled for.
Never cross your sword with a Sir!
Gonzalez Patricia Lewis Barbara Martinez Sarah
Disgusting to Have to see this Add over and over again and again! Adds gone Wild! tvideler!
Empires
looking one way only kiwi should clear their boat from coming closed it's a waisting of time
Bens thinking what can I do? Crash? I would not put it past him. But he has got to be able to blame the umpires. He was clearly the give way boat. and looking at his or should I say Dylans turn down? it was a deliberate menace.Bens thinking, "how are we going to beat these guys? Crash? But subtly.
It wasn’t that. It’s that they were too slow or left it too late to react. It was a simple port-starboard and ETNZ had to alter course. It was always going to go against INEOS. This stuff happens all the time in match racing. There was nothing surprising or unexpected about it.
Was that Dylan shouting ‘Jesus christ’ as the horns nearly locked ? Were the kiwis scaring the new boy?
You NZ guys sound really angry with life despite being 3 0 up and getting all the umpiring 50:50 decisions.
You're going to win at a stroll anyway so relax.. and cheer up.
@@colinhare4722 I’m not a Kiwi. I was hoping for a British win to at least make the series more interesting. Not everyone here is a dick.
@@colinhare4722 Colin I don't think the "NZ guys" "sound really angry with life". That sort of comment is without justification and unwarranted. I just think their knowledge is more extensive than the people who make uneducated comments about the Rules and match racing and are just expressing their knowledge and opinion, To say someone is angry with life is just nuts and should be treated as such.
Maybe the biggest rout in AC history?
Ainslie has form. in 2017 he ploughed into the back of Team NZ during the dial up causing significant damage to Team NZ. He then collided with the Japanese entry SoftBank causing major damage. Both times he was penalised and yet today he nearly did the same thing and it was only pure luck that the foils didn't tangle. Again he was penalised. You can't win the America's Cup by causing damage and being penalised. Maybe this isn't his game and he should get out of the sandpit and let others play.
@@EnglishLawyer Well remembered. Did he not crash a few times in Sail GP as well? His aggression gets the better of him sometimes.
Keeping it close 700 metres behind 57 seconds behind is this guy blind
Well this won't be an Americas Cup worth watching! 🤑TNZ🤑
Most Kiwis that I know here are not that interested in this AC after TNZ moved the regatta away from NZ. Farcical!
boring... show race not talking heads
